WWW.NAVYMWRDAHLGREN.COM/BASE-SERVICES pg. 10 Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Program (SAPR)
THE FLEET & FAMILY SUPPORT CENTER
This year, like every year in April, the SAPR Program launched the campaign to stop sexual assaults in the military. When you look around you’ll see teal bows lining the light posts and banners at the entrances bringing your attention to the SAPR Program. This month SAPR brings awareness to the many Sailors who fall victim of this crime and has made it a mission to end this tragedy. The new OPNAV requires all tenants to have a SAPR Point of Contact trained by the SARC to ensure the command is up to date with policy and mandatory trainings. It also requires a minimum of two trained, certified SAPR Victim Advocates at every tenant command to man the 24/7 watch bill as first responders in the event that a sexual assault incident occurs. Today our number of trained and certified advocates is increasing by the quarter. We are a strong team! We work 24/7 to ensure our fellow Sailors, Marines, dependents, and supporting civilians have a caring voice to guide them through the difficult path of reporting an incident,
accompanying them at each step in the investigative and military justice system process if they so choose. However, the team is not quite complete. As the Sexual Assault Response Coordinator I say we don’t have to wait for the policy to mandate and/or have a requirement for all active duty members and civilians on the installation to be active members of the SAPR Program. I say everyone can be part of the program by doing their part as SAPR ACTIVE BYSTANDERS to stop this crime before it happens. Please join us in this fight by participating in the following SAPR activities throughout the month. April 18 | 11 a.m. | SAPR 5K Run/Walk at the Dahlgren Fitness Center All are invited to show support at this annual run/ walk. Those in attendance have a chance to win giveaways. April 25 | 11:30 a.m. | 1:30 p.m.: What’s the Tea? Strike Out Sexual Assault All are invited learn more about Sexual Assault Awareness & Prevention Month with free bowling and activities at Cannonball Lanes.
