the paradise garden t h e p e o p l e 's p l a y g r o u n d
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
❁ Gardens these days are idle, practically less looked upon in the contemporary city. In our effort to improve on nature, we are guided by a vision of paradise, and to create a garden is to search for a better world. Set in Kuala Lumpur 2030, this project brings about the idea of experimenting on a huge garden to implement the notion of nature and playscape. It envisions a garden of the commons for the community to participate, setting the ground for a new performative ideal of urban typology. This project explores the garden in the city as a place of leisure, allowing people to escape from their everyday normality.
❁ 18/19th century Gardens & Parks were originally developed as private gardens for monarchs and other rulers and their associates. Mainly made for domestic pleasure, hunting and festivities. Industrialisation changed the nature of cities, including their parks and development of green spaces.
20th century Garden City ideas were formulated. However, financial constraints hit local governments, inf luencing their budgets for maintaining parks and green spaces. The lack of priority, neglect, management problems and changes in needs and demands of users led to the decline use of parks or gardens.
21st century Currently, there are new presepectives on green spaces as people become more concern with the quality of urban living. ‘Green Spaces, better places’ document is published and local authorities start to improve planning for developing public green spaces and parks.
❁
The Government is drawing up a national policy to guide landscape development in line with efforts to shape Malaysia into the most beautiful garden nation by 2030. The National Landscape Policy is a development policy that aims at creating holistic, quality, unique identity and sustainable landscape to realise the vision of Beautiful Garden Nation that can improve the quality of life and increase economy competitiveness.

TG.oP is the masterplan as a whole. The design of the masterplan reflects on the notion of paradise filled with nature, blooming flowers and another worldly ambience. Gardens as D an essay on dr
Dreamscapes eam narratives
❁ This thesis explores the representation of gardens as dreamscapes with selected influential literature and arts from the renaissance era, as well as looking into a modern media, particularly, film. It discusses the narratives of dreamscapes and its influences on dreams, gardens and architecture. This thesis investigates the ideology of gardens and paradise, that focuses on the visual qualities towards the representation of gardens. The selected case studies chosen were carefully looked into and thoroughly analysed towards the placement of dreamscape incorporating the setting of gardens. The research focuses on the selected medias that revoles around the concept of a garden and a dream setting. Each chapter focuses on each case study respectively; the first chapter looks into the exploration of Hypnerotomachia Poliphili, a book written by Francesco Colonna. The second chapter analyses the symbolism of The Garden of Earthly Delights, a historical painting by Hieronymus Bosch. The third chapter looks at the discourse of Alice in Wonderland.
❁ The post-script shows my interpretation towards visualizing the dreamscapes that I have thoroughly analysed in my thesis. The developed visuals are set in the same setting and correlates to one another towards my final design, these images are also the starting point towards The Paradise Garden.
❁ “If there is a Paradise on the face of the earth, it is here, it is here, it is here.”

THE ENTERTAINMENT REALITY Year 4 Architectural Design Studio | 2020 London, England

The theme of this project goes about depicting a setting that we perceive as a “perfect reality”, where we stage the everyday life of people. This project is influenced by the narrative of The Truman Show, where an ideal set of a suburban lifestyle is played out for the one and only, Truman Burbank. As quoted from a scene from the movie, “Nothing you see on the show is fake, it is merely controlled.” In Truman’s case, he doesn’t know there are cameras watching him - so what he does in daily life is natuarl. But how do we act if we do know cameras are watching our every move? Are we showing what is real? Or just a means of portraying a perfectly scripted reality?

THE ENTERTAINMENT REALITY at fish haven island
Society these days are easily influenced by lifestyles that are portrayed through various forms of media. This project started by looking at objects that are used as a sense of entertainment, and how a user experiences the entertainment spaces, and eventually led to depicting a setting that we perceive as a perfect reality. The Entertainment Reality is where Stars (celebrities or social media influencers) reside for fame and luxury in exchange for their privacy. The Set is equipped with cameras everywhere which will broadcast their private lives to the public. Visitors are also able to watch their lives up close and personal by walking about or sitting at a cafe in the Haven Building. This project illustrates the attachment of reality living towards the society these days.
The fame and popularity of these reality TV stars are unstoppable. It is without a doubt our society tend to get attached to reality shows and the stars, this shows that how one is easily invested in knowing what’s going on in other people’s personal lives. These stars have a sense of power to their self-image, showing their perfect way of living or at times, their emotional downfall. The need for the constant updates shows a parallel to the way we live our lives on social media. These tendencies which are becoming part of our society is what makes us so attracted to reality TV.
The entertainment user envisions 3 adjacent mental spaces: an executive space and an entertainment space. Users have conscious awareness of these space.

GreenHaus is a sustainable innovations incubator located in the heart of Johor Bahru, amongst the elite known places in town. This incubator focuses on sustainable product making, where its product can help benefit the urban environment in the short-term as well as the long-run. In a world that’s constantly developing with products, we need to keep intact the things that must be sustainable for future uses. Hence, we must have less waste, and use more recycled or upcycled products. Thus, this incubator is set to be the pacemaker of that knowledge. Where in hopes, it can help teach more about sustainability and sustainable product making. The design initiative is to make a Learning Centre that teaches a thing or two about sustainability, as well as incorporating design towards being a sustainable building.

The surrounding old shophouses have revived into an area specialising on art and culture. Many eateries, lifestyle cafes and boutiques have been opened in recent years at Jalan Dhoby, making it a popular destination for the locals as well as tourists. The idea of the Toy Library is to create another exciting activity to the district, where it would bring more people to the area. Music School KIDS & MUSIC Children of all ages express themselves through music. Playing music for infants proves that, even at an early age, children sway, bounce and moves their hands in response to the music they hear. Many preschoolers make up songs and, with no self-consciousness, sing to themselves as they play. Kids in elementary school learn to sing together as a group and possibly learn to play a musical instrument. Older children dance to the music of their favourite rock bands and use music to form friendships and share feelings. No doubt music plays a big role for an individual as well as to the society. For my project, I am focusing on kids at the age of 6-17 to create a learning music centre for the future generations. Music helps nurture kids in so many ways. It could improve their academic skills, helps develop physical skills, and cultivate their social skills. This may also benefit the society by enhancing the quality of growth for the future generation.
TRANSPARENCY & KIDS & MUSIC Taken inspirational source from Tohogakuen School of Music’s ideology, where “a demand for a more visual connection” is needed. I derived that this implication is very well suitable for kids. Where having an “openplan” music centre could increase one’s interaction between another, plus enhancing their visual communication and their social development. The spatial idea for my project revolves around having a wide open, permeable and transparent spaces.
