LETTER FROM THE EDITOR

Who are you?

This question, although short and simple in structure, can call for a more complicated answer. We can be simply described by our name, age, or career; but our culture, religion, hobbies, sexuality and so on are also a big part of our identities. The qualities we have make us unique yet connect us to people we share characteristics with. As we grow older, we’ll explore new avenues and may feel we are losing connection to our communities, but regardless of where we go, we take our characteristics with us.

We too are only in our second edition as ENYE, but our name change doesn't mean our mission to highlight the Latinx community has changed. As we grow, we’ll remember our roots: DÍG en Español, our Spanish only format, and previous staff members who helped nourish ENYE into what it is now. Remembering our roots brings me to proudly present the Fall 2024 issue of ENYE: Resilient Roots.

Our roots ground us, encourage us to grow, and bear the fruits of our success. The stories contained within these pages of community, representation, strength, and change are a testament to the roots of the Latinx community that bring us together.

This issue is the fruit of my incredible staff’s hard work and a representation of our own roots, not only as members of the Latinx community, but as students, journalists, writers and creatives. It is an honor to be their editor in chief and it is only with them that this issue exists.

While you discover the beauty of the Latinx community, I hope you connect to your roots as well. So when you're asked, ‘who are you?’, look to your roots, know you are so much more than your name, age, and career.

With gratitude,
