THE WRITER daily.diogocosta Lisbon, Portugal
Hey, im daily.diogocosta, you may know me from Instagram. I'm a watch enthusiast, lover of panda dials and my favorite model is the 5711 from PP(Patek Philippe),i'm a designer , a marketeer, a event manager and a photography lover with a traveling addiction. Introducing my first monthly issue, the DAILY.DC, i`ve made this monthly issue with the main objective of feeling a gap, a gap that includes travelling, photography and mainly, WATCHES and TIMEPIECES. Nowadays it's hard to find a magazine that combines all this topics with a personal touch and personality of a human being and not a brand behind it. It's not only about reading, it's about people reading and finding common points and experiences that they can relate to.

ITS SEIKO YEAR! TRENDING AND AFFORDABLE
This month we are talking about Seiko´s popularization amongst the haute horlogerie lovers and buyers and why do a “mid-low” priced brand ( some models reaching 8000 euros ! don't get me wrong with the “mid-low”) like Seiko has so much popularity this days. First, it's a brand that covers a huge part of market, going from diving watches to chronographs and classic watches, and second it's a brand that assures quality in multiple price ranges, going from the affordable “Seiko 5” to the expensive “Grand Seiko”, so if people are buying more Grand..
Seiko they are not only giving popularity to that model but to the whole brand too. The Seiko 5, in my opinion its one of those watches that are made for the clients/buyers and not only for the brand making huge profits, for those who don't know, the “5” means 5 key attributes 1. Automatic winding 2. Day/date displayed in a single window 3. Water resistance 4. Recessed crown at the 4 o’clock position 5. Durable case and bracelet
2
The crown at the 4 o'clock position was positioned like that because the watch has little or almost non necessity to use the crown, because the ultra lasting movement power reserve. The mainspring is made from “Diaflex,” an unbreakable alloy, and the “Diashock,” system was created to protect the movement from shock within the case, so we're talking about a tough watch that can last till you no longer need to use a watch, and for me, a brand that can provide this kind of innovation but still maintain a reasonable price its really great. So yeah i really love affordable and tough watches.
I really prefer “manufactures”that make all their parts in house, because they can maintain a certain level of quality and provide a much more coese final product.

TAKING ADVANTAGE OF ALL YOUR LIGHTS
THE PHOTOGRAPHER: daily.diogocosta THE CAMERA: Nikon D5000 / 18-55mm THE WATCHES: TAG HEUER AQUARACER SEIKO AUTOMATIC 21J THE LOCATION: Almada, Portugal
This month i decided to grab my gear and do some shots while there is still sun and a nice weather. Even after a day at the office, multiple meetings and a gym session i've managed to find the motivation at 22pm to go do some shots. The main idea was taking advantage of the lume and the material of the watch with the help of an above lighting, and mainly taking advantage of the amazing view and the night lights. Yep..it´s hard to photograph at night, but with a lot of patience and a good tripod it's possible guys! So..have some hope ! Make sure you charge your camera battery, because the long exposure may be hard for your battery and you will end up taking fewer shots than you would like to. Make sure to take some watches with you (if you want to take multiple shots with multiple watches and have a lot of options to choose from in the end of the day) and most importantly..know your watches !

“The importance of charging your lume during a photo shoot is much more relevant than the cleaning of the dial itself” Knowing your watch it's so important has knowing your camera. Some materials react differently to light and darkness. For example at night stainless steel looks more smooth than a two tone ( SS and Gold), the gold will look a bit more harsh and bright, and the gold color will be more “strong”. Don't forget your dial! The dial is really important too, a white matte dial (TAG HEUER above) don't usually make flashy colors or harsh flashes, while a “brushed” champagne dial (SEIKO 21) can be a little more tough to photograph since it can grab a lot more light and do reflections.
The importance of charging your lume during a photo shoot is much more relevant than cleaning the dial itself, why? in dark locations the glass/sapphire glass will not have many reflections, so even if it's dirty it will not be noticeable. Make sure you charge your lume with a light bright light, like a flashlight or in my case, my iPhone flash, if you have a good watch the lume will come up and be there long enough so you can grab a couple shots in the meanwhile.

Honestly i've learned some new tricks, that are quite simple, for example.. to take a shot like the one in the bottom you just have to set your ISO to 600 , the velocity to 30 seconds, the lens open to f/36. Quite basic right? Make sure you have a steady tripod and use your timer, because if you are a shaky guys like me you will need the timer, believe me! Because even with a tripod you can ruin your photo! Regarding the place, I always choose a place that can be versatile, where I can't take wrist shots and landscape shots too.
The night of the photo shoot i was a little apprehensive, i didn't knew if there was places to lay down my watch in a way i could take some steady shots, but i ended up finding a nice place with a lot of good surfaces, i always try to have a soft tissue with me where i can lay down my watch, but if you lay it down slowly i think there will not be much problems regarding scratches. Last tip, if you wanna do a cover of all the process make sure you take some shots with your phone will taking shots with your camera, it will result in a nice “behind the scenes”.

THE NEW HEIRLOOM SILVER Combining an outstanding quallity a extremely good looking design and a high resistance leather bracelet. In my opinion a great price/value rate for a ultra classy watch that combines a good quartz mechanism with a low price.

Strike your pose! It's amazing how a watch can look differently in multiple oufits, it can transform a sporty watch into a endurance one for example. It can make a discreet watch into an aggressive one, all this depending about the person who uses it and the clothes they are wearing. I always try to mix different styles in a photo shoot, so i can see the multiple personalities of the watch, for example the TAG HEUER AQUARACER
really well with a suit and it can look aggressive and resistant with an outdoors jacket or a nautical jacket. The more vintage TAG HEUER it's a little bit more different, because the leather strap only, it's a timepiece that mixed with a suit it would look sloppy, mainly because the dial itself is gray. That´s why i just love Sport/luxury watches, like the Nautilus models or the AP Royal Oak, but this is a conversation to have on the next month issue, that's right! next

month one of the themes will be about Sport/luxury watches and their price range. You will have to wait till December to read it .. sorry guys. Getting back to the original theme, my objective in this photoshoot was to give it a mysterious look and a urban look and at the same time take advantage of the night and the street lights to give it a natural look. Its wasn´t easy to take the shots, since people can't be still for long, but we managed to take the shots and im
quite happy about it. One of the things i like the most in this shots are the obvious relationship that exists between the watch and the person being photographed, almost a dramatical and personal mood, where the watch becomes an essential tool to wonder in the streets, a true companion i must say.

GUEST: TRAVELHOMEDAD
TRAVELHOMEDAD This month guest is one of the guys that got me into travel wrist shots and and main influencer on my love for panda dials, Its has a diversified collection and one of those collections that you wouldn`t even switch or change a single watch, a perfect mix of diving bezels and chorographs. Its with a lot of pleasure that i present you - TRAVELHOMEDAD! The main theme we discussed this month was- The importance of a watch (or several) when travelling. And if there`s a guy that understands and knows about this topic is him.
For a traveler that spends more time in the air than on land, a trio of watches is a must in the briefcase whether it is heading to a conference or to a remote location. When it comes to traveling, it is important to pack with practicality in mind by bringing watches that can utilized for every occasions. Even though I travel across 5 time zones during a given week, I personally do not see the need for a GMT unless I am more than 8 hours out of my home timezone. As I tend to wear a watch wherever I go, I would say my go to duo for trips would be the Citizen Blue
10
Angel Radio Controlled for work and casual use. I also have an Omega Speedmaster 3572.50 tritium for business or dressier occasions when the Citizen wouldn't be appropriate. As an avid watch collector, the blue angels offers everything a traveler would need and much more with a PVD bezel, blue dial, slide rule under the crystal, 200 M water-resistant, radio-controlled six zones, 26 time zones, Eco-Drive and perpetual calendar all for the price of $300. While the Omega Speedmaster tritium dial offers a transition into the past...
and present with a hesalite crystal top, sapphire caseback to observed the movement and most importantly the radiant patina from the tritium hours hands giving it a more vintage look than most of the speedmasters in the 80 and 90s.

ANTWERP | OCTOBER AGENDA: October - Antwerp , Belgium November - Porto, Portugal December - Paris, France January - Dublin, Ireland February - Barcelona, Spain
ANTWERP | OCTOBER
In October i decided to visit Antwerp, to be honest my initial idea was to stay in Brussels, but i ended up making the perfect choice in staying in Antwerp. It ends up that Antwerp its a beautiful and multi cultural city, full of northern europe architecture, grey and full of ornaments and with a touch of love for gold color. My main objective was to travel between the main city`s of Belgium ( Ghent , Burges, Brussels and Antwerp), so i spent 2 days at Antwerp ( more than enough), a city full of Diamond Dealers/retailers with large avenues and a lot of movimentation during the day, at any hour! What to visit and where to take the best wrist shots ? - Antwerp Central Station - Museum aan de Stroom (placed next to a marina) -Main Antwerp Avenue ( right next to the Antwerp Central Station) -De Muze bar -Avi Koren Watch Boutique Make sure you explore the city, im talking about cultural zones, the old and the new area of the city, and enjoy the nice and old streets while looking at the big cathedrals that are always present in the meanwhile grab some Waffles or Fries to enjoy the walk. Later on, i got the chance to travel to Brussels, didn´t quite like as much as Antwerp, Brussels it's a more rude and de-organized city, you start seeing garbage in the streets, lot of homeless people, but in general it's a great city to visit and take some crazy good wrist shots and normal photos, a must to visit? the Cinquantenaire, the Atomium, and the area near the Brussels Central Station, and if you are a watch lover like me, make sure you visit the Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert, and grab a look or a wrist test of some of the best Rolex models, such like the Platinum Daytona with turquoise dial and brown cerachrom bezel, or the insanely good Sky-Dweller`s at the local Rolex Boutique. Finally i ended up in Bruges! And what a city if i must say! For sure my favorite city in Belgium, mixes a lot of nature and the old architecture with a relaxed mood. It's a must guys ! CHECK THE NEXT PAGE FOR MORE PHOTOS OF MY TRIP!
