CITY OF WEST KELOWNA
A NOTE FROM
OfĂşce hours: :30am- :30pm Monday to Friday (excluding Stat Holidays) GENERAL INQUIRIES
Mayor Doug Findlater With the winter months a memory and warm temperatures arrived, it’s time for you to get out and enjoy the wide range of recreational programs that West Kelowna takes great pride in providing. I encourage you to browse through the City of West Kelowna’s 2016 Summer Recreation Guide to find a program or class that is suited to the interests of you and your family. The 2016 Summer Recreation Guide offers a variety of summer camps. If you want swimming as part of your day camp experience, Johnson Bentley Memorial Aquatic Centre has weekly camps with exciting themes. If you are looking for affordable camps that include day trips to exciting locations through the Okanagan, then Webber Road Boys and Girls Club is the place for you. For specialty camps the City of West Kelowna
offers camps in: tennis, Lego, hockey, art and Xplore Sports. This summer also includes two new camps that provide opportunities for kids to develop a variety of sport and movement skills through participation in activities such as Capture the Flag, basketball, volleyball, badminton, pickle ball, hiking, soccer and SNAG golf. Be sure to take in the free concerts every Friday in July and August at Memorial Park. Enjoy the new tiered seating and the exceptional talent of Okanagan artists for Music in the Park. For the first time World Music Festival will be held on two days (August 26 6:30-9pm and August 27 3:30-9pm.) This event will include a variety of cultural performances and activities. Don’t forget the 2016 Westside Daze, June 30-July 1. There will be free entertainment, a kids’ fair, fireworks, and a parade.

Research shows that participation in sport and recreation increases a child’s chance of success in life.
Some of the criterion to apply for the Jumpstart program includes: • Eligible children are between the ages of 5 and 18 years. • Eligible children participating in sport and recreation in West Kelowna and Peachland. • Funding goes to individuals, not to teams. • Up to $300 per child can be allocated per season. • Funding should be for a sustained program that lasts a season therefore a one-week camp would not qualify. • Funding can be provided to the same child for successive seasons, although the goal is that Jump Start continues to fund new children. • Funding preference is to pay for registration fees with consideration to fund equipment or transportation costs on a case by case basis.
Canadian Tire JumpstartŽ has helped give more than 159,573 kids in financial need, the chance to play. Funding is based on the individual child’s financial need. The goal is to help those children who would not have been able to participate in a physical activity without the assistance of the JumpStart program.
West Kelowna KidSport Chapter

KidSport™ is a community based sport-funding program that provides grants for children ages 6-18 years. There are over 30 community chapters in BC and over 175 chapters across Canada. KidSport™ works to eliminate the únancial barriers to sport participation so all kids can play. In March 2011 the West Kelowna KidSport™ Chapter began awarding groups to help children and youth participate in sport programs.
