Springville Playhouse to present musical ‘Joseph’

The Springville Playhouse will present the popular musical “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” as its Art City Days production this year. The performances are being presented on Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays through Saturday, June 12.

Performances begin at 7:30 p.m. at Merit Preparatory Academy, 1440 W. Center, Springville. Tickets are $12 general admission ($10 for students and seniors).

“Joseph and the Amazing Technical Dreamcoat” is a musical comedy with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice. Based on a story of from the Bible’s Book of Genesis, the show tells the story of Joseph, who was sold into slavery in Egypt by his jealous brothers after their father Jacob presented Joseph with a multi-colored coat.

The show utilizes many different styles of music and a children’s choir to tell its story.

The Springville Playhouse production of “Joseph” is being produced by Karen Amsden and directed by Robinne Booth. Rosemary Mathews is the musical director, Jocelyn Young is the choreographer and Katrina Mellor is the children’s choir director.

Cast as Joseph in the production is Nate Warenski, and Cindy Thompson will play the role of the Narrator. Other cast members are: Jacob and wife, Karl and Kathy Young; Pharaoh, Matt Dobson; Potiphar, Brian Butler; Potiphar’s Wife, Nicole Lundquist; Apache Dancer, Sara Isam.
