WELCOME TO OUR 19th ANNUAL MADISON COUNTY FAIR Thank you for joining us again this year. And thank you for your encouraging comments on our last Fair: so refreshing, enjoyable, amazing, life changing, historical, family friendly, useful, engaging, fun, educational, exciting, informative, inspiring, entertaining, rewarding, rich, wonderful, valuable, uplifting, captivating, impactful, a breath of fresh air, a remarkable transformation, setting a whole new agenda for community fairs, something our community can be proud of…all of which reflect our vision, mission, and core values of supporting, educating, inspiring, uniting, and strengthening our faith, families, farms, churches, businesses, friends, and freedom, while imparting a hope for the future. This is what our County Fair is all about! As you travel between the exhibitors, vendors, teachers, demonstrators, and delightful activities for all ages, it is our hope that you pause to reflect on the full purpose, design and effort underpinning the making of the fair. There is a strong desire behind the many hours spent in bringing this event to fruition and that desire lies namely in an earnest wish to see our community thrive. An earnest wish to build the future of our town, county, and neighboring areas, by the inspiration of its members for future generations to grab hold of a vision for the land they love. To give hope to budding entrepreneurs, that they can do it, that they can build a business right here in Madison County or wherever they happen to be. To provide a wonderful outlet for farmers to showcase the beloved animals they nurture; creators to present the projects they have worked tirelessly to create; businesses to demonstrate their investment in our community by making the Fair possible; teachers and demonstrators to share their wisdom and skills; vendors to share their wares and food; and performers their talents. As we continue to grow and expand, it is also our great desire to continue to build and nurture relationships forged over generations, of parents passing on traditions, history, work ethics, and Godly principles to their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. To strengthen relationships between the many different entities and businesses involved that concentrate time and money to make this event possible as we come together to preserve and strengthen the future of our families, our farms, our community, and our country. To enrich the lives of everyone to see a hope and love for our community as we go forward and inspire many beyond. FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER THE MADISON COUNTY FAIR WILL FEATURE THE HIGH FLYING ACTION OF DOCKDOGS® OCTOBER 1ST – 2ND, 2021 For the first time ever, the Madison County Fair will be featuring the high flying action of DockDogs®, the independent governing and sanctioning body for dock jumping and dock diving canine performance sports. The exciting and crowd drawing action will be taking place at Wanda Priest / JC Park so make sure to take advantage of this incredible attraction by experiencing the fastest growing sport for canines in North America. Throughout the Show, DockDogs® will present the Big Air® Wave competition accompanied by an Extreme Vertical® and Speed Retrieve® competition for both competitors and spectators to enjoy. The Big Air® competition features dogs running down a 40’ dock and diving into a pool of water after an object, in which they are electronically judged for the length of their jump. The Extreme Vertical® competition is a “High Jump” for the dogs as they each lunge to snag a “bumper” suspended in the air. With each grab, the height increases in 2-inch increments until only one dog is crowned king. Rounding out the action is the newest form of competition known as Speed Retrieve® – where the dogs are put on the clock to see how fast they can run down the dock, jump into the water, swim to the end of the pool and retrieve an object which is held by a modified extender arm. The competitions are open to any and everyone. Teams are made up of one dog and one handler. Your canine must be 6 months or older to be eligible. Canines of any breed, size or shape are welcomed. Not only is the competition open to all types of canines, but also handlers above the age of 7 are welcomed. We even have a Youth Handler class for those who are between the ages of 7-14. So if you or anyone you know has a dog that likes the water, gets along with other dogs and enjoys a good “chew toy”, this event is for you! Pre-registration will be available until 1 week prior to the event by logging onto www.dockdogs.com, or you can register on-site at the beginning of the day. The website will also provide an up-to-date schedule and general information on all DockDogs® affiliated events. DockDogs® is the independent governing and sanctioning body for regional, national and international dock jumping performance sports. Fair. Irene has lived in Fredericktown for 60 years. Married to Lilbourn Settle, they have one daughter, Debbie. Irene has been on the Fair board for 7 years and on the Azalea Festival board for over 36 years. She has been with the Old Greenville Craft Show for 30 years. She likes to help others and her community whenever she can. Irene enjoy crafts and promoting craft shows. Facebook.com/MidMoFun/ 4:00 pm The World’s Premier Canine Aquatics Competitions Onsite Registration and Practice DockDogs Arena WPP A nationally recognized competitive sport with national standards and objective measures that allows people to train competitively and have objective feedback on their progress. This open competition allows “anyone with a dog and toy” to participate in the sport and have a chance at national recognition. DockDogs is an organization about having fun and celebrates every improvement-even an inch improvement over a team’s previous jump is something to be happy about. We continue to work to keep the sport as simple and fun as possible, and to create a culture of camaraderie amongst the Novice through the experienced competitors. We want teams to participate at whatever level they and their dogs can compete, so we created divisions for each of the different disciplines, which allows teams to be ranked and awarded fairly against competing teams, based on their current performance abilities. Murta Street. 4:00 pm Riceland Chapter of Delta Waterfowl Jason Hinkle WPP Amazed by the immense abundance of ducks, geese, teals, mergansers, and swans, more than they had ever seen in their lives, waterfowl were crucial to the Pilgrims’ survival. Today Delta Waterfowl is The Duck Hunters Organization, a leading conservation group founded at the famed Delta Marsh in Manitoba, with its U.S. Headquarters in Bismarck, North Dakota. Working to produce ducks through intensive management programs and conservation of breeding duck habitat, Delta conducts vital waterfowl research, and

promotes and protects the continuing tradition of waterfowl hunting in North America. Delta’s mission: To produce ducks and secure the future of waterfowl hunting. At Delta’s booth, learn about ducks, duck calling, duck hunting, gear, hunting environments, dogs, decoys…Hats, decals, duck calls, magazines, and other literature will be available. DeltaWaterfowl.org President of the Riceland Chapter of Delta Waterfowl for the past 3 years, Jason has been both a member and hunted waterfowl for 13 years. Competing in DockDogs for the past 3 years, Jason recommended this great event to our community. With a BS degree in Construction Management, he is currently employed as Project manager for SGI in Annapolis and resides in Madison County with his daughter Shelby and his British Lab Bella. 4:30 pm-6:30 pm Dinner AP JC Pavilion-Enjoy dinner from our food vendors as you sit under the pavilion listening to music by local musicians. 4:30 am National Anthem The Joyful Notes Choir AP JC Stage The Joyful Notes Choir is a new local group of singers who share a love of eclectic, uplifting music. Director, Lori Wagner, is a recent transplant from Western New York who has spent many years facilitating groups of young people to join their voices in song, including her own homeschooled students. 4:30 pm-6:30 pm Fall Recital Dale Cooper AP JC Stage A community of local musicians ranging from ages 5-55 will perform a wide variety of music on-Violin, Piano, Cello, Guitar…Years ago, Dale Cooper decided he wanted his children to have an outlet for their musical training, so he started hosting seasonal music recitals for aspiring musicians in the community. These events have grown over the years as parents have enjoyed watching their children improve and grow in their skills. 5:00 pm DockDogs Extreme Vertical Competition WPP 5:00 pm-6:00 pm Pie & Ice Cream Thanksgiving Pies provided by Higdon Christian Church Ladies Ice Cream Provided by Harps AP Pavilion At the first Thanksgiving, 50 Pilgrims and 90 from the Wampanoag tribe celebrated God’s provision with a feast of roasted turkey, duck, geese, venison, corn, fish, lobster, eel, berries, nuts, and pumpkins. Baking the hollowed shell filled with milk, honey and spices, the Pilgrims began the tradition of pumpkin pie. To celebrate the Pilgrims first Thanksgiving, the Higdon Christian Church ladies lovingly prepared delicious pumpkin, apple, and pecan pies for you as a fundraiser for our Fair. $5 per person. Linda Lewis has been a choir direction in Fredericktown for 22 years and has been teaching for 29. 9:00am-11:00 am Scarecrow Contest WPP Usually dressed in old clothes stuffed with straw and topped with straw hat to resemble a person, scarecrows were crucial to farmers survival to “scare” away birds from feeding on seeds and crops. Between 9am-11am, bring your friendly scarecrow on a sturdy pole to hammer into the ground in front of the Pumpkin Patch with your name and contact information attached. A winner will be marked with a ribbon for all to see the rest of the day. All scarecrows need to be removed by 5:00 pm. 9:00 am-2:00 pm (estimated ending time) Livestock Exhibitors Showcase Donna Kranjec & Sandy Dismuke Livestock Arena WPP Exhibition for cattle, swine, sheep, and goats. An outstanding one-day event that provides valuable learning experience while also providing fun for everyone! Participation builds cooperation, responsibility, and showmanship skills. No entry fees required. Premium book at Madison County Farm Supply and Wards Farm Center. Donna and Sandy have been hosting the Livestock Show for many years. Donna is a retired teacher and counselor from Fredericktown Elementary School. She lives with her husband in rural Marquand where they raise angus seed stock. Many know Donna and her family from the Madison County Farm Supply. Sandy is a registered nurse that has been an active member of the Fair Association for 6 years. She lives with her husband on Turkey Creek Hobby Farm in Madison County after spending most of her adult life working in Louisiana, Alaska, and Illinois, due to her husband’s jobs. She reports that “It’s good to be home.” 9:00 am-2:00 pm (estimated ending time) Poultry, Water Fowl, and Rabbit Showcase Joyce Rehkop, Jennifer Culbertson & Amanda Moore WPP This great one-day exhibition of poultry, water fowl, and rabbits provides valuable learning experiences and fun for everyone while building cooperation, responsibility, and showmanship skills. Open to all ages. Animals must be in pens by 8:00 am. Joyce has been hosting the Poultry, Water Fowl and Rabbit Showcase for 12 years. She has farmed all her life and lives on a working cattle and horse farm that provides custom hay baling. Joyce is a retired Ag teacher from Three Rivers College and currently serves as President of the Missouri Farm Bureau in Madison County. Amanda has served as a poultry judge for Madison County Fair for 10 years and is very active in the St. Francois County Fair as a livestock coordinator. Jennifer joined the team in 2019. She lives on a hobby farm with her husband, 7 of their 10 children, dairy and beef cows, chickens, ducks, guineas,

quail, dogs, cats and pigs. They are involved with their church fellowship, a homeschool group, and historical reenacting. 9:00 am-2:00 pm Plymouth Plantation Treasure Hunt WPP Ages 8 & under, 15 & under, and 16-Adult may participate by answering questions in their age category relating to information provided at the Fair. Participants are encouraged to ask questions of the speakers, demonstrators, and vendors. Cell phones and computers not allowed for answering questions. Pick up cards at Fair Information Table. Once completed, place time of completion on card and drop into Treasure Hunt Box on information table. The first attendee in each age category to answer the questions correctly will receive a special gift at Information Table 3:30pm. 9:00 am-2:00 pm Water Safety Andrew Jefferson WPP Bodies of water, especially the high seas in the 1600’s, pose a risk if not treated with respect by using wisdom and the right gear. Learn about hypothermia, the proper way to wear a life jacket, and safety around water. Natural Resources Specialist Park Ranger for the U. S. Corps of Engineers at Wappapello Lake, Andrew will bring a variety of life jackets (P.F.D.s) and show what’s available on the market, water wheel of safety with several water safety give away items, and fatal vision goggles. 9:00 am-2:00 pm In Search of Plymouth Rock WPP Traditional site of disembarkation from the Mayflower in 1620, children ages 2 to 7 will search for Plymouth Rock in sandbox. 9:00 am-2:00 pm Head Dress and Vest Kailyn George WPP Squanto, who spoke English, desired to help the Pilgrims survive in this new land and thus joined himself to their colony to teach them how to plant and fertilize corn in the sandy soil, how to stalk deer, and where to find berries and fish. Living by the command to “love thy neighbor as thyself” and practicing the principles of covenanting, the Pilgrim’s desired friendship with the surrounding tribes. So with Squanto as their guide, they traveled to Massasoit and gave the chief a suit of clothes, horseman’s coat, and other gifts. Squanto was instrumental in securing a peace treaty between the Pilgrims and surrounding tribes which lasted over 50 years. Celebrating this providential friendship with Squanto, “a special instrument sent of God for their good” (William Bradford Governor of Plymouth), children ages 8 and under may decorate a head dress and vest similar to what Squanto would have worn. A descendent of Pocahontas and two Pilgrims that signed the Mayflower Compact, Kailyn is a homeschooled student and President of St. Louis Teen Eagles, a group of serious-minded Christian students working to equip young leaders to positively influence our culture. Kailyn participates in the National Bible Bee Summer study and helps host a group in Farmington and Park Hills. Ranking the highest rating 2 years in a row for the state of Missouri at the State level piano competition, Kailyn enjoys playing piano for churches and schools in need of an accompaniment for singers and band members. 9:00 am-2:00 pm Fishin’ Hole Sponsored by Sandy Dismuke Hosted by Burke Sebastian WPP Instilled with a strong work ethic at a young age, children helped the family by providing fish such as shad, sea bass, cod, clams, lobsters, mussels, eels, herring, and salmon for the table. Using fishing poles, children ages 2 to 7 may try their skills at catching fish in the Fishin’
Hole for a prize. Burke is the niece of Sandy Dismuke. She loves visiting her Aunt Sandy’s hobby farm and spending time with her favorite goat “Merriam”.

As soon as they hear the command “mark” retrievers look for the birds as they fly within range and “mark” where they fall. Relying also on hand, voice, and whistle commands retrievers will find birds over 100 yards away even when they do not see where the bird falls. Learn how “man’s best friend” helps provide food for the table. Jeff, owner of Sand Creek Kennels, trains retrievers for hunt test and hunting, obedience for all breeds, and boards as well. He has been training dogs his entire life-rabbit dogs, squirrel dogs, coon dogs, pointing dogs, and retrievers. “My business is not a job it’s my passion. I’m a strong believer in genetics and great training is what makes a great athlete.” 9:00 am-5:00 pm Plymouth Plantation Pilgrim Reenactors WPP Choosing to face death rather than lose their children, the Pilgrims sacrificed everything to throw off the chains of bondage to save their posterity from “danger of degeneration and corruption and to lay a good foundation for propagating and advancing the gospel of the kingdom of Christ in those remote parts of the world that they should be but stepping stones unto others for the performing of so great a work.” (William Bradford Governor of Plymouth Plantation for 33 Years) To commemorate the 400th anniversary of the Pilgrim’s first Thanksgiving and their immense contribution to America by establishing a firm foundation of Constitutional rule of law, freedom of conscience, freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom to bear arms, and free enterprise, Pilgrims from Plymouth Plantation will be sharing their marvelous history. Jedidiah Summers Home educated and working together with his family in all their businesses and ministries all his life, Jedidiah continues to champion truth, family, and liberty wherever he goes. An avid reader of history and theology, Jedidiah has inspired many families with his preaching, teaching, and graduation charges. Jedidiah, along with his brother Josiah, manages their family’s working farm. Dylan George is a homeschooled young man who lives on a small farm in Farmington. His interests include memorizing Scripture, playing piano, and following local and national politics. He is majoring in mathematics/statistics at Missouri Baptist University. Dylan is related to Pocahontas and two pilgrims that signed the Mayflower Compact. Amy

Culbertson, a homeschool senior from Fredericktown enjoys meeting new people and lending a helping hand whenever needed. She has performed in several musicals, and with a local choir. Mia Culbertson, a homeschool freshman from Fredericktown loves all types of art and music. She has performed in several musicals and choir recitals with a local homeschool group. Joseph McMinn, a homeschooled young man from Patton, he enjoys acting and played a major role in The Secret Garden with the Arcadia Valley Theater Guild in 2019, and several musicals produced by a local homeschool group. Abigail Culbertson, an outgoing homeschooled young lady from Fredericktown is the youngest in a family of 10. She loves to play dress-up and act out scenes from books and movies with her siblings. 9:00 am-5:00 pm Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child Robin Lange & Nancee Gore WPP In the true spirit of the Pilgrims resolve “to lay a good foundation for propagating and advancing the gospel of the kingdom of Christ in those remote parts of the world.” (William Bradford) the mission of Operation Christmas Child is to demonstrate God’s love in a tangible way to children in need. Through this project, Samaritan’s Purse partners with the local church worldwide to share the Good News of Jesus Christ and make disciples of the nations. Since 1993, more than 188 million children in more than 170 countries have received shoebox gifts filled with toys, school supplies, and hygiene items. SamaritansPurse. org Robin has been involved in Operation Christmas Child for several years and has been in charge for our county for 3 years. Nancee is a member of God’s Country Cowboy Church and will be helping with this year’s fundraiser at the church on August 28th and also with the drop offs this year at God’s Country Cowboy Church. GodsCountryCowboyChurch.org 9:00 am-5:00 pm Voice of the Martyrs Robin Lang & Nancee Gore WPP It is difficult for most Americans to imagine a state church that dictates where and how you worship, and probably even more difficult to fathom surveillance, arrest, jail, and death for failing to support such tyranny, yet the Pilgrims were hunted down, persecuted, betrayed, clapped in irons, and stripped of their property till King James harried them out of the land for refusing to conform to the intolerant demands of the Church of England. Affirming church self-government in 1606, the Pilgrims wrote the first church covenant of its kind which formed the basis for the selfgoverning Mayflower Compact, which formed the foundation of our Constitution, and subsequent First Amendment, protecting us today from the encroachment of the Federal Government by preventing the establishment of a State church. Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof… Although American’s enjoy religious liberty, many people in totalitarian countries all over the world are tortured and killed for their faith. Learn about The Voice of the Martyrs, founded in 1967 by Pastor Richard Wurmbrand, who endured 14 years of Communist imprisonment and torture in his homeland of Romania, and the network he established to provide relief to persecuted Christians in Islamic and Communist nations. Of all their commodities, beaver pelts proved to be the most significant in paying off investors who financed their voyage. In a short time, trade and commerce flourished to the point that in 1654, historian Edward Johnson wrote, “The Lord had blessed this Commonwealth abundantly beyond all expectation in all sorts of needful occupations. In a very little space, everything in the country proved a staple-commodity: wheat, rye, oats, peas, barley beef, pork, fish, butter, cheese, timber, mast, tar, plank-board, frames of houses...” Bob will be teaching on the history of trapping, how to trap, rules and dates, while displaying samples of land, water, and live traps. Bob has lived in Bollinger county his entire life. Trapping since he was a teenager, he is self-taught. Working at the same job in Marble Hill for over 40 years, he traps nights and weekends. A fighter for wildlife preservation, he wants to see native animals thrive and do well for future generations by removing destructive animals and helping thin predators so turkeys, quail, rabbits and other wildlife can replenish before being wiped out. Since there is no fur market anymore, predators are plentiful, making it tough on other animals’ survival. He is a mentor and teaches on this tradition of survival and income. Tom Burch WPP Having to clear land and build everything from scratch, forging and maintaining tools such as saws, axes, hammers, chisels, harrows, plows, hoes, shovels, and spades were essential to the construction of fortifications and housing, furniture, farming, gardening, cooking, and food storage. Much in demand, the blacksmith made and mended many useful tools by heating iron and steel until soft, and then shaping with hand tools, hammer, anvil, and chisel. So essential was this craft, that the blacksmith’s shop often became the hub of the village, serving as a meeting place to fellowship and exchange news. Tom will be demonstrating blacksmithing techniques including some from the early American time period. He will be making knives, tools, and other items. Jon will be demonstrating the making of maple syrup just as he makes it each winter for their family’s business. Jon, along with his family, are state leaders for home educators for the past 35 years. Electrician by trade, he pastored a church for nearly 20 years, and works in the family’s businesses and ministries.
9:00 am-5:00 pm Commando Krav Maga (CKM) Mark Stillpass WPP For 34 years, Mark Stillpass has been a St. Louis County firefighter, and for the past 22 years, a fire department captain for the Maryland Heights Fire District. He is also a retired rescue officer with Missouri Task Force 1-one of only 28 urban search and rescue task forces in the U.S. Over the past 20 years, he has been deployed on many assignments, but none as memorable and painful as that which took place on 9-11-2001. For what began as a 10-day rescue effort in lower Manhattan, quickly, and most tragically, turned into a recovery effort at Ground Zero. Throughout his career, Mark has diligently trained and worked to save lives. For the past 10 years he has ventured into the discipline of instructing others how to protect themselves against physical attacks. Coupled with his service as a captain in the Maryland Heights Fire District and a rescue officer with Missouri Task Force 1 made him realize the importance of being prepared in all circumstances especially in this increasingly violent culture and with an ongoing threat of terrorism. Mark has been teaching Krav Maga classes to instruct others how to protect themselves against physical attackers. Krav Maga is not a sport like mixed martial arts (MMA), boxing, wrestling, or other martial arts systems. Those systems have rules. Quite obviously there are no rules in a street conflict so there are no rules in Krav Maga. In essence, once you have been trained, to a level of proficiency in Krav Maga’s reality based situations, you will have a plan and an understanding of what your attacker is thinking and doing to be able to take advantage of his weaknesses. You will be able to disarm a perpetrator with a gun, knife, bat, hammer or any other improvised weapon as well as a simple strong armed assault. The Founder, Heart, and Soul of the Madison County Fair’s 20 Year Legacy Most people know Mary Settle because she has been such an inspiration and help to many of us on our farming journeys. Some may not know, though, that Mary actually helped the entire county by founding our Madison County Fair in 2002. Mary’s love for farming and her community was truly the heart and driving force behind it for 15 years until her health forced her to step down. Yet even now, Mary sponsors the Fair, encourages its members, and contributes her help, like making lunch for all the volunteers who helped set up for our last fair. Recently we asked Mary to share the history of the Fair with all of us. “I had always wanted our town to host a fair for the young and old to enjoy. So when my next door neighbor came to me and asked if we could do this, I was thrilled. It takes much work to set up, contact, and organize a fair, however, I knew if we could get a few people to give us a helping hand we could swing this. Carol Magnus and I worked hard to contact different ones. Before we knew it, the day had arrived. It was such a thrill to see others enjoying what I loved to do. We had chickens, rabbits, turkeys, guinea pigs, real cows for a milking contest, Ernie Terry’s excellent wood carvings, a black smith, basket weaver, the 4-H’s sheep etc. Many other things were available that day for those who wanted to venture out and have a good FREE day of fun. We all worked together and it paid off. We so appreciated each and every one that donated to pay the premiums and the ones that worked. You will never be forgotten. Neither will Steve Sitzes, as he was my right hand for many years. We met and made new friends and came together as a community. Each year our fair grew, it grew so fast we were running out of room for all the animals. I suggested we build another pavilion. Sadly, there just wasn’t enough money. So I told them if they could round up enough helpers to build, I would donate the money to build. The plan was on. The Lord sent workers who worked hard and before long it was just about finished. Then there was a snare in the plan. We lacked $300 to finish, but once again we were blessed. The Madison County Extension council donated $300 to finish our building. Due to Lyme’s disease I had to step down from my position of 15 years because I had so much trouble with my balance. It broke my heart but my heart is still there with each of you. I pray others will donate their time to our county fair, step up and help us put together pens, chalk lines or whatever needs to be done. It’s time well spent with our friends and neighbors. God Bless each of you and I pray His hand be on you all during this stressful but yet enjoyable time. My little helper was such a joy each year as she and her cousin helped walk and train the goats. Thank you, Autumn and Emily, love you both.”

Children that collect the most canned goods for the food bank are crowned Mr. & Mrs. Madison County. All 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students are welcome to participate. There is no entry fee. The rules are simple. The two children, one boy and one girl, who donate the most food by weight will be crowned. All the food will be donated to the local food pantries. All food must be nonperishable and not expired. No institutional size cans or water accepted. No glass. Weigh in is on Friday Oct 2nd at 3:30pm at Madison County Farm supply. The student must also be at the Fair on Sat October 3rd. The coronation of Mr. and Mrs. Madison County will be held on Saturday from 12:00 to 12:30 at the JC Stage in Azalea Park.
