Parkland” voting prompt at the top of the Daily Journal website at www.dailyjournalonline.com. The contest will feature everything from best bakery to best wait staff, best antique shopping to best tire shop, and best apartment community to best veterinary service. Just for fun there will also be a “favorites” category for weekend events, festivals, natural attractions, live music venues, and the best place in the Parkland to take the kids. Voting is free. A complete listing of the categories, details on how to vote, and features on the areas of interest -- Services, Shopping, Dining and Entertainment -- are included elsewhere in this publication. Once the voting is complete, the winners in each category will be named in the Best of the Parkland 2017 Winner’s Edition Magazine on April 29. Be watching for more details in the coming days.

Do you have a favorite grocery or clothing store? How about a favorite mechanic, or beauty shop, or family physician? You can help let all your friends and neighbors know which area services, shops, dining and entertainment venues you prefer. The Daily Journal, along with the Farmington Press and Democrat News, is sponsoring the “Best of ” online competition as a way for readers to vote for their favorites and let everyone know which services and retailers rank at the top in the Parkland. The contest will focus on nearly 100 categories in which readers can cast their vote. Find the listing of categories on page 12-13 of this publication. Participants can vote once per day in any or all of the different categories, so there’s good reason to keep coming back to see your favorites climb to the top of the ranking.

Missouri’s Parkland offers a wide variety of dining and entertainment choices for everyone from the late-night snacker who's craving a pizza “with everything on it” to the budget-conscious family looking for a fast, delicious and low-cost meal or a couple dreaming of a first-class meal while out on that special evening together. Want to pick up a pizza or have one delivered? We’ve got many of the national chains like Pizza Hut or Domino’s — or you can try a slice of Missouri “provolone heaven” at the local Imo’s. In a big hurry? There’s several Little Caesar’s Pizza locations that can take care of you in a hurry — or stop by any one of dozens of Casey’s General Stores in the area for pizza sold by the pie or the slice. If you don’t mind doing a little of the work yourself, grab a Papa Murphy’s Take N Bake Pizza and throw it in the oven at home for a delicious treat. Of course, the Parkland has all the familiar “burger joints” like McDonald’s, Burger King, Steak 'n Shake, Culver’s and Sonic, but have you ever tried a home style cheeseburger from Hunts Dairy Bar, Spokes

Pub or Sirros? If you haven’t, boy, are you in for a mouthwatering treat! Or how about some Mexican, Italian, Thai or Chinese food? The days of having to travel to St. Louis for ethnic eateries is over. The Parkland has an incredible selection nowadays that includes sit down restaurants like El Tapatio, Pasta House, Pad Thai, Mario’s Italia, Ho Wah, Great Wall and Beijing House. Of course, for those in a hurry, there’s always Taco Bell — and the good news is they’re open really late on the weekends! If you’re a fan of great barbecue, the Parkland is a great place to live! Whether you like your ribs wet or dry, you can find just what you’re looking for right here at home. Baylee Jo’s BBQ in Ironton is one regional favorite with melt-in-your-mouth pulled pork and barbecue grilled shrimp, among a large number of other menu items to choose from. Be sure to try the cherry barbecue sauce! Hungry Bellies in Park Hills is another local favorite that never fails to satisfy the taste buds and

and wineries — and many of the best can be found in the Parkland. By the glass or by the bottle, some of the finest tasting wines around can be found at Crown V a l l e y , Chaumette, Twin Oaks and other local vineyards. As for those wanting to enjoy a good steak or other more formal fare, the Parkland now has a number of great places where you can enjoy a top notch meal at reasonable prices. Try 12 West, the Durso Hills Winery or the brand new Café Redux to discover how enjoyable and affordable a fine dining experience can be. For a special treat, head over to the Arcadia Valley for a nice meal at Thee Abbey Kitchen — and don't forget to take home some of their famous cinnamon rolls! There are plenty of other specialty restaurants, bakeries and shops in the area where you can enjoy a nice meal or snack without spending a great deal of money. Hankering some chicken wings? The Parkland has it covered. Deli sandwiches? Yep, those too. Bakeries ... coffee shops? Got 'em ... and got 'em! Ice cream? Frozen custard? Yes, and most of the shops are usually open even when the weather's cold outside.

Dexter Bar-BQue is the choice of those who like their barb e c u e “Memphisstyle.” Hungry for breakfast? T h e r e ' s always fast food fare, of course, but you might want to try the Factory Diner’s two Farmington locations or the A&M Restaurant in Fredericktown. There are also several Huddle House locations throughout the area that not only serve a good meal, but they’re open 24 hours, seven days a week. For those who enjoy family dining, don't miss out on the Catfish Kettle where you can enjoy all-you-can-eat catfish, chicken and other delicious entrées. The Homestead Restaurant offers a buffet featuring fabulous American fare like fried chicken, meatloaf, mashed potatoes and awesome desserts. For those looking for a great place to meet up with friends after a hard day at work, try Hub’s Pub, Salted Duck or Shamrock for a big selection of great drinks and bar food. Applebee’s is another popular spot to enjoy a drink along with a nice meal in a congenial and family-friendly atmosphere. The state of Missouri in recent years has become the home for an ever-increasing number of breweries

There used to be a time when going on a shopping trip meant waiting until the weekend, loading up the kids in the station wagon and heading for the city. Things have sure changed a lot since then! The area is undergoing a retail growth spurt and nowadays there are lots of great places to shop in the Parkland — whether you're looking for groceries, hunting and fishing supplies, home appliances, farm equipment, clothing or shoes. Of course, everybody knows that there are Walmart Supercenters in Farmington, Desloge, Potosi and Fredericktown, as well as Lowe's, Menards, Rural King and the Family Center where you can buy most anything — ALONG WITH the kitchen sink — but there are so many other great places to shop. Wanting to purchase new furniture and appliances for the home? Yes, you could

The Parkland has outstanding stores like Hefner Furniture and Appliance in Farmington, Seabaugh Furniture and Appliance in Fredericktown, Willette Home Furnishings in Bonne Terre, Patsy's Furniture in Park Hills and Fisher Furniture in Ironton that offer comparable merchandise at equal or better prices. On top of that, most of these stores service what they sell. If you're wanting some new clothing for next week's event, the Parkland's got you covered — literally! Farmington is home to several national chains like Maurice's, Payless ShoeSource, Rainbow Apparel, Cato Fashions, Famous Footwear and Rue 21, but you might want to give these local merchants a look — Ophelia's and Southern Sins in Farmington, along with
