Debunking Shishuwa’s claim on planned 2021 election rigging
Dear Editor,
SHISHUWA accuses the same government that tolerates him to continue writing his anti-government theories of being intolerant, forgetting that it is also the same government that feeds him?
To us, this proves the obvious that Shishuwa represents an agenda that is beyond fair academic commentary but a deeper political interest.
Our conclusion is that Shishuwa is just another disgruntled and half-baked politician hiding behind the curtain of academia and must be treated as such
Were it not for Shishuwa Shishuwa’s impeccable academic background, we would have ignored him because we have followed his many biased political commentaries against Edgar Lungu and his government and we know his inclination towards the opposition from the time of the Post Newspaper, but given his academic background and the audience he represents (UNZA) we are forced to debunk his sensational claim in his recent ranting titled “This is how President
Let there be fairness in the recruitment of military officers
Dear Editor, youths wanted to stage demonstrations against The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) among other things.
We have been told that reason has finally prevailed and they have since called off their planned demos.
Here are the facts which those youths must bear in mind before they allow themselves to be used and abused by selfish politicians: 1. All politicians have children but none of them send their children to the streets to protest, instead they use other people's children and put them in harm's way.
While you are out in the streets endangering your life, your leaders and their children are enjoying life in the comfort of their houses, watching tv, eating caviar, studying and making business deals.
To them, you are nothing but ladders they use to climb to their political apex. In fact they use you to make money from their local and foreign donors.
When you are arrested, none of those leaders will be there to help you or your families. They will forget you like they have done to so many others before you. You are nothing to them other than imitanto (ladders). Their philosophy is simple: Its use and dump! 2. UPND is not a serious party hence it is a sheer waste of time to use your energy and time fighting for these crybabies.
Look, they are complaining about ECZ, the electoral process, police conduct and the Constitution but they are the same people who have boycotted the constitution-making process which is aimed at addressing their very complaints.
Government through the National Dialogue Forum has come up with the Constitution Amendment Bill, the Public Order Bill as well as the Electoral Process Bill to deal with all these issues yet the same UPND which is crying the loudest have boycotted the process.
They are not serious, so why waste your time and energy doing their bidding! 3. When ECZ calls for a meeting to discuss these very issues, the same UPND boycotts or walks out of the meetings. So why waste your time on these good for nothing characters? 4. It is this same UPND which campaigned against the Bill of Rights yet today they want to feed you junk about their rights being taken away. Which rights? The same rights Dear Editor,
THE three Government defence wings namely the Zambia Army (ZA), Zambia Air Force (ZAF) and the Zambia National Service (ZNS) are recruiting regular officers. The requirements for the applicant are as follows; the person must be aged between 18 years and 25 years, single, mentally and physically fit and with 12 points at Grade 12.
The recruitment exercise has come at the right time in that most youths particularly the school leavers are languishing on the streets due to lack of employment opportunities. Other youths cannot go to the colleges and universities because they do not have money.
To recruit people by the three wings is one thing and to conduct the recruitment in a fair manner is another. This is because the recruitment they campaigned against? Come on guys!
Here are empowerment programmes that President Edgar Lungu and his Government have created for you the youth. Take advantage of this and make money for yourselves instead of wasting your energy on meaningless demonstrations:
GOVERNMENT EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMMES AVAILABLE
Since 2011, Government can be marred with such things as corruption and nepotism, among other vices.
If the recruitment exercise won’t be conducted in a fair manner, this will disadvantage the deserving people by depriving them an employment opportunity.
I call upon the officers responsible for the recruitment to conduct the exercise in a fair manner. This will enable deserving people to get employed on merit. This is the way it should be.
However, I wish to laud the ZAF command for pledging that the recruitment will be above board. This entails that people will be employed on merit.
The ZA and the ZNS should also resolve to carry out the recruitment on merit. Oftentimes, some people have cried foul as regards the recruitment of the military personnel by the defence wings.
The Police Service is not spared either of corruption and other irregularities when it comes to the recruitment exercise.
I reiterate the call for fair recruitment of the military personnel by the defence wings and wish all the best to the people who will be recruited.
