MAJOR DRAW NIGHT FRIDAY 18
FEBRUARY
Hello Members,
I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and were able to spend some quality time with family and friends as it has been a while since many of have been able to do this.
As we move along in 2022 I would like to wish you a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year on behalf of the Board of Directors, Management and our Staff.
It certainly hasn’t been a great start for everyone with the Covid Pandemic still throwing life into chaos. I know it is difficult, but we are all in the same boat as we try to proceed through and enjoy life and friendships as much as possible. We certainly need to take as much care as possible in our everyday lives and follow the health regulations. The Club is continuing to do everything possible to ensure that we are doing this.
We opened the new Club entrance and foyer just before Christmas as well as our new areas on the first floor, The Shed, Eucalyptus Dining, Mango Tango Thai and Redwood Late Night Bar. There is also a new smoking area on this level. I have received so many comments on how pleased the members are with these areas, so if you haven’t had the chance to check them out, please try and do so when the opportunity arrives for you.
You will notice that due to Covid we have had to make some changes to some of our opening and closing times and days of operation in some of the areas due to staff availability and we thank our Management Team for keeping a watchful eye on this. They are doing this so we can still be open for the people who wish to attend the amenities available whilst also looking after everyone. I know you will appreciate this.
I would like to thank State Member for Prospect Hugh McDermott MP for his acknowledgement before Parliament when he addressed The Legislative Assembly of the Parliament of NSW to place onto public record his appreciation for the wonderful transformation of Blacktown Workers Club, and the Club’s ongoing support to a growing Western Sydney. Thank you Hugh. We appreciate this support.
We held our annual Tin Shed and VIP members lunch on Friday 3rd December in the Diamond Showroom with approx. 150 attending including four of our Tin Shed Members being Noel Beggs, Alan Burgmann, Victor Lamb and William Webber. Unfortunately, Noel passed away not long after this event, but it was great he had a chance to catch up with his old friends for the lunch. The Board of Directors, Management and Staff pass on our condolences to his family and friends.
We have added a variety of shows on Saturday nights from February so you can start enjoying going out again. These shows have been carefully selected to suit many different tastes in entertainment. If you are interested, I would suggest you book early to ensure your seats as we will be following all the government regulations and these shows could fill early.
As we work through the next few months, we are waiting in anticipation the approval of the DA for our Senior Living Precinct on Reservoir Rd. We have worked so long on this that an approval from both Blacktown Council and the NSW State Panning Panel should follow soon.
I would like to thank Harold Becker, our Welfare Officer, for the wonderful work he does for our members. Due to hospital rules, he is unable to visit our sick members in hospital, but he is certainly not idle. He is still looking after members and staff and attending many funerals on behalf of our members. We are so lucky to have him. Your health and wellbeing are very important to us so if you need some support or just need to talk, please contact Harold for someone to talk to.
If you feel you need to get away for a NSW break don’t forget our three Holiday destinations are still operating. You must be fully vaccinated and follow all the health and government orders. There are three beautiful resorts to choose from at Sussex Inlet, Fingal Bay and Urunga. Your next break could be just a phone call away.
Take care and be kind to each other.
Kay Kelly
Club President
Blacktown Workers Club Group
Hello Members, and Welcome to 2022
Firstly, I trust that you are all staying as safe and well as you can in the continued covid-craziness which we all find ourselves in again. I hope you were able to spend time with family, friends and loved ones over the Christmas and New Year period.
Since our last journal a lot has happened. We’ve completed Stage One of the renovations here at Campbell St and there are minor works ongoing to create a new Membership, Ticket Sales and Welcome Desk where the old entry to the Club was located, and we expect this to open in the coming months.
The walkway across from the carpark into the Club or ‘Parklane’ as we know it will reopen in late March from Wednesday to Sunday which we anticipate will provide ease of access and departure again back into the Level One food and entertainment outlets.
Later this year we will commence a refit of the Impressions Café area and Bar encompassing new furniture, carpet, paint, equipment, and fittings all designed to modernise these areas and bring them up to a new contemporary standard that our Members and Guests expect.
The Omicron variant of COVID-19 has given us some operational challenges which we have overcome to be able to provide consistent delivery of products and service to our Members and Guests. Our people continue to be highly resilient and have really shone through during these difficult times. I am proud of and thank them all as I believe that our Club is lucky to have dedicated staff that are part of a strong, community-based organisation which places high value on its people.
In 2022 though, our focus on our future does not sway with our primary focus being the achievement of an approval to activate Seniors Living Precinct Independent Living Units at Reservoir Road. In what has been a red tape marathon of sorts, we are now close to an approval and will keep Membership updated how this progresses at State Government approval level.
We have a strong promotional calendar with much activity taking place over the coming months as we again resume normality and our coexistence with COVID-19 continues. We have a range of Member spend promotions including Cash and Car Giveaways, a strong variety of shows and entertainment, food promotions and we welcome back some of our long held and Member valued events such as Champagne Wednesday!
Members, we are proudly long-standing members of our community and like many of you, we too are looking forward to a 2022 hopefully flowing with a renewed sense of normality. However we are prepared for whatever the future might hold for us all as we are an agile and resilient group of people and we will do what we think is right for the long term future of our Clubs and community.
As always, my condolences go to those Members who have lost loved ones, so please take care of yourselves and of each other.
