Four beers you definitely need to try (and where to find them) HERBERT ORELLANA
S
chool, work, friends and bae, student life sure is stressful. Being a student can be a very demanding and difficult experience. Doing homework, studying for tests, even finding parking every morning can all be very tedious. Although there are many healthy ways to cope with stress, drinking is not one of them. Nonetheless, if you still like to indulge yourself with a cold one, here is a list of four delicious and unique beers that will sure help you relax after turning in that 10-page paper. In order to elaborate this list, I gave myself the tough task of visiting different breweries around Northridge, making sure that each location was close enough to visit from the CSUN campus. The list includes the type of beer, a little information about it, a short description, and the website and location of the brewery where you can find it. (You’re welcome.)
1. “Q-cumber Pale-Michelada”
Served at San Fernando Brewing Company, this delicious pale ale has a hint of cucumber which is not overpowering to the palate. A pale ale is a middle ground beer between easy drinking pilsners and the more hoppy/bitter IPAs. This beer can also be served as a Michelada; by adding tomato juice, lime, and chili, this beer will taste like if it was served to you by a “paletero man” in LA. San Fernando Brewing Company, 425 Park Ave. San Fernando, CA 91340 www.sanfernandobrewingcompany.com
YOHANA DELEON
3. “Jenny’s Chickens Saison”
Welcome back to beer 101. A saison is a type of beer originally from Belgium. They were brewed in the last months of winter and stored to be served in summer to farm workers (they are also called “farmhouse ales,” hence the chicken reference). Served at MacLeod Brewing Co., this saison is a unique beer because of its peppery, limey taste, that makes it a perfect refreshing choice after a hot day on campus. MacLeod Brewing Co. 14741 Calvert Street Van Nuys, CA 91411 www.macleodale.com
4.”Confuzzled Sour”
Brewed and served at “Hand Brewed Beer,” this beer tastes like a morning coffee without the caffeine kick. A stout is a style of beer which is mostly dark; they resemble chocolate coffee-like flavors and are considered to be a dessert-like drink, nonetheless this Chai Stout sure has everything to be a main dish.
This fruity sour ale is made with pineapple, mango and guava which are re-fermented in French oak barrels. Now this style of beer is the result of high acidity caused by extended fermentation, they are not very common. We are truly lucky to have Cellador Ales be less than 15 minutes away from campus, and if you haven’t yet, you should make a trip and taste their beer. Also, their tasting room is beautiful and has many entertaining things to do.

Beauty on a budget:
Foundations 2
STORY AND PHOTOS BY HELEN BEZIKYAN Foundations can be tricky to get down and to get the perfect match for your skin type. Here are some drugstore and high-end foundation recommendations that cater to different skin types.
1. Dewy 3
For the dry skin type, it is best to use dewy foundations so that the formula does not cling to dry patches or areas of the face. Always make sure the skin is moisturized before applying foundation to ensure that some of the dryness can be subdued. The Nars All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation for $49 is a great high-end foundation for a dewy look that lasts throughout the day. A drugstore alternative is the Wet n Wild Photo Focus Foundation for $5.99. Both foundations have great coverage and give off a glow from within luminous look. If the glow is too much one can always lightly set the foundation with a powder or use blotting sheets.
2. Matte
For someone with oily or combination skin, matte foundation is the right formula for that skin type. Priming the skin with a mattifying primer will help combat oiliness that can be produced in the T-zone. Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation for $34 has the right amount of buildable coverage and consistency to achieve a matte look. The Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless Foundation for $7.99 has the same effect while minimizing the look of pores and leaving a natural finish. Both of the foundations have a soft matte finish that takes away from the harsh powdery look. A great tip to add some hydration to the matte look is to set the face with a dewy setting spray.
3. Full Coverage If you have redness or the type of skin that breaks out, then the full coverage finish of the following foundations can assist with that. The Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup for $42 completely covers all imperfections and lasts all day while looking freshly applied. A drugstore dupe that also achieves a similar look is the L’oreal Paris Infallible Total Cover Foundation for $12.99. Neither of the foundations oxidize or cause oiliness of the skin as time passes when wearing it. Both of the foundations have a slightly mattified finish that does not crease or break apart.

When is it time for a car tune-up? SARAH CRAMER-MASON
I
f your car is making a weird noise don’t be alarmed, it’s probably just because your music is off. There are multiple signs to tell you when it’s time to get your annual checkup or any other issues with your vehicle. If your car is creating a noise such as a grinding or squealing, you should come to a complete stop to see what the problem is. Take note of how often the sound occurs and if it changes. This may be a sign of a brake problem. “My car all of a sudden stopped and that’s when the dashboard light came on," says Olivia Cordova. "I turned it off to make sure it was fully shutdown before I turned it on again. That’s when I knew it was time for a wheel alignment.” There are many signs to know when your car should see a mechanic. Sometimes when pulling out of the driveway, if you see that your car is leaking green liquid, it’s oil coming from the engine. If the oil hasn’t been changed in about 10,000 miles and is black and leaves a slickness on your fingers, that means there is an oil leak, and you should immediately get an oil change. Oil changes are fast and relatively cheap. There are different types of leaks such as
transmission fluid, power-steering fluid, brake fluid, and more. If an icon doesn’t light up on your dashboard then you are good to go. Just keep tabs on important numbers like the mileage on your car, oil levels and gasoline. Cars are very powerful machines that are meant to perform if they are kept in good condition.
