Who is Matt Czajkowski? Health Care: On October 9th the News&Observer reported that 'as the nation debates how to cover more people with health insurance, mayoral candidate Matt Czajkowski wants to scale back coverage for town employees.' This past year town staff received no cost of living increase while working hard to maintain high level of service with less. During tough economic times for families in Chapel Hill should we be reducing benefits for town employees such as the police and firefighters who work hard every day to protect us? Voting: Matt Czajkowski moved to Chapel Hill in 1998 but he never bothered to vote in a Mayoral election until he ran for office in 2007 (Chapel Hill News, 10/21/09). Do we want a Mayor whose only interest in town issues is
advancing his own political career? Values: Matt Czajkowski's election 'could swing the balance of power away from the town's long-standing liberal
majority, which has supported causes such as environmental protection.' (News&Observer, 10/12/09) Chapel Hill is known nationally as a bastion of progressive leadership. Do we want to take a step backward? Leadership: During his two years as a Councilmember Czajkowski has been very ineffective, with no accomplishments to point to. On October 21' the Daily Tar Heel wrote that 'he has shown that he is not the greatest consensus builder,' With many difficult issues on the table for the next two years, can Chapel Hill afford a divisive leader who is incapable of bringing people together? Matt Czajkowski's politics are out of sync with the progressive values Chapel Hill has worked hard to protect. Mark Kleinschmidt has worked hard as a Town Council Member and will continue to preserve Chapel Hill's position as a leader in education, transportation, and sensible growth. On November 3, vote for Mark Kleinschmidt. the candidate with a progressive and sensible vision for Chapel Hill.
