Ohio Holstein Spring Sale Averages $1,452
The Ohio Holstein Spring Sale was held Saturday, April 17, 2021 at the Wayne County Fairgrounds in Wooster, Ohio. A total of seventy-one (71) registered Holstein consignments of all ages, both black and white and red and white, and two embryo packages sold.
Topping the sale at $6,000 was Lot 31, Wil-San Warrior Winnie-Red, consigned by William Besancon, Wooster, Ohio, and purchased by Caitlin & Carter Liette and Taylor & Reid Klophenstein, St. Marys, Ohio. Born December 1, 2020 she was sired by Mr Blondin Warrior-Red-ET with seven Very Good and Excellent dams, including the 2011 All Minnesota R & W Aged Cow, in her pedigree.
Lot 22, Richlin-J Jordy Lucy-Red sold for $3,400. A bred heifer due in June to Warrior-Red, she was consigned by Allyson Cupps, Dayton, Ohio and was purchased by Kody & Kaleb Pond, Bellefontaine, Ohio. Sired by Cycle McGucci Jordy, her pedigree included ten Very Good and Excellent dams with records to 39,500 pounds of milk.

consigned by Jeffery Brown and Ben Zimmerman, Wooster, Ohio. Sired by Farnear Altitude-Red, her dam was classified VG 86 @210 and was followed by eight dams classified from EX 92 to EX 95.
Lot 6, Oakfield Dempsey Rattler-ET, sold for $3,000 to RMD Dairy, Rittman, Ohio and was consigned by John Polchin, Dorset, Ohio. A bred heifer, she was due May 1, 2021 to Peak Tropic-ET, sired by Dempsey and her dam was Excellent 94, sired by Goldwyn and with a long list of show winnings.
Lot 60 sold for $3,000 to Angela Shumaker, Okiechobee, Florida and was consigned by Damon Bertke, Maria Stein, Ohio. A winter calf, she was sired by Mr Affection Analyst-Red-ET.
The sale averaged $1,452. Top selling cow at $2,750 was Lot 63, cows averaged $1,775. Top selling bred heifer at $3,400 was Lot 22, bred heifers averaged $1,954. Top selling winter yearling at $1,200 was Lot 39, winter yearlings averaged $1,063. Top selling spring yearling at $3,000 was Lot 4, spring yearlings averaged $1,395. Top selling summer yearling at $2,500 was Lot 1, summer yearlings averaged $1,245. Top selling fall calf at $1950 was Lot 40, fall calves averaged $969. Top selling winter calf at $6,000 was Lot 31, winter calves averaged $1,596. Top selling spring calf at $700 was Lot 16A, spring calves averaged $500. Embryo packages averaged $1788. Thirteen (13) consignments sold for $2,000 and up. Consignments sold to Texas, Canada, Florida and Ohio.
The sale was managed by the Ohio Holstein Association, 1375 Heyl Road, Box 479, Wooster, Ohio 44691. Auctioneer was Bob Graber, Orville, Ohio with Ted Renner, Dalton, Ohio reading the pedigrees. On line bidding was provided by Cowbuyer with Chad Griffith handling the bids. Ohio Holstein Juniors were eligible to sign up for vouchers in the sums of $100, $200 and $300 to be used toward the purchase of any animal in the sale.
