This helps us feel secure in the knowledge there will be funds to continue our vital work.

A gift in your Will means long term funding for these essential services. Making or amending your Will doesn’t take much time or effort. Even the smallest gift can make a difference. You may choose to leave a share of your estate (a residuary bequest) or a fixed sum of money (a pecuniary bequest).

Mairi knows first-hand how important our services can be. She knows she doesn’t have to cope alone when she attends her local CHSS Stroke Group. Here she finds friendship, positivity and Please take some time to read through experiences to share. She’s also found this booklet before you contact your the confidence to join in our Voices solicitor or willwriter. Scotland programme, encouraging everyone affected by chest , heart or stroke illness to speak out and influence their local NHS services and to campaign on crucial issues that affect them.

D233 CHSS Legacy A5 Leaflet.indd 4-5

When Iain suffered a heart attack, his first concern was for his child. Would he still be here to see her grow up? Like so many people with a chest, heart or stroke condition, he felt isolated and frightened. That’s where we came in.

Having completed his rehabilitation programme, Iain wanted to continue getting stronger but was anxious about which activities he could safely do. He called our award winning Advice Line, where the nurse listened and understood his anxiety and frustration. She was reassuring and referred him to his local CHSS Heart Group, where he continues to enjoy structured exercise and support. He tells us that we were a lifeline when he needed it most. So when Iain recently added a gift in his Will to us, he was reassured that his small contribution would go a long way to support our invaluable services.

Meet Connor. At the age of 10 he became the man of the house.

Connor lost his dad at age 42. A picture of health, a stroke was the last thing anyone expected. Family life was shattered. Tragically, Connor won’t be the only child to lose a loved one this year to chest, heart or stroke illness. That’s why we’re developing unique materials designed and written especially for children and teenagers to help them understand and cope with the effects of losing or living with a parent suffering from these devastating conditions. Our groundbreaking research continues into the prevention of these deaths. We fund essential project teams in Scotland’s University Medical Schools and hospitals, as well as backing innovative clinical trials. We’re passionate about educating children in Scotland about the long term benefits of an active lifestyle. Our Active Expressions programme has reached tens of thousands of school children in Scotland, promoting sponsored aerobic activities that are fun and challenging, to get children active for life. A gift in your Will can help us ensure a happier and healthier future for every child in Scotland.

Meet Heather. After her gran died she became determined to stop Scotland’s biggest killers.

We need you to help us continue the fight.

Heather also found out about our personal support grants, which meant she could buy a specially adapted chair to allow her gran to get some rest. For the first time in months, she saw her gran comfortable enough to get some much needed sleep.

When she was distressed by her gran’s breathing difficulties, our Advice Line nurses offered reassurance and sent her some information about COPD, with advice on how to make things a little easier for her gran.

The gift included in Heather’s Will to Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland is in memory of her beloved gran, to help others like her in the future when they need it most.

Hand this to your solicitor or willwriter. Once you’re ready to visit a solicitor or willwriter to make or amend your Will, simply fill in this card and take it with you.

I don’t have a Will: I would like to make a Will and include a gift to Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland as indicated below.

I have a Will: I would like to change my existing Will to include a gift to Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland as indicated below. I would like my gift to be in the form of: A residuary gift (the residue of my estate).

One in every ten people in Scotland is living with chest, heart or stroke illness right now. Mums, dads, brothers, sisters, friends and colleagues. But it doesn’t have to be like this. By leaving a gift in your Will you will be helping in the battle against Scotland’s biggest killers. From research into prevention, to funding for specialist nurses, a gift in your Will can help us meet the challenge.

Heather was devastated when she lost her gran to lung disease. She felt totally helpless. But while her gran was alive she appreciated so much the care, support and advice she received from Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland.
