Wirksworth Carnival
The last two years have been a tumultuous time for everybody organising public events. We have been looking forward to a time when we can once again gather to celebrate the wonderful community of Wirksworth by decorating floats, practicing our best dance moves, and hosing down our wheelbarrows ready for a sprint around the town over Carnival weekend! October to December is critical planning time for the carnival. The organising starts in earnest as we apply for road closures, start booking bands, dancers, traffic management and much more, and get our ‘trucks’ in a row for the coming year! Well, this year, Omicron put paid to all planning of public gatherings as the future looked very uncertain. Coupled with non-refundable deposits paid for by the public’s generous charitable donations, we had to take the decision to not go ahead with this year’s normal May weekend events. All is not lost, however. Whilst we may not be going ahead with our May event, we hope to hold a Wheelbarrow Race in 2022, most likely during the Queen's Jubilee Weekend in early June if restrictions allow. Follow us on Facebook (search: Wirksworth Carnival 2022) for updates. We hope to see some Royalty running the race – get planning your outfits!

APPEAL FOR HELP
The Wirksworth Carnival does not happen without hours of work behind the scenes from volunteers and we desperately need your help. Without an increase in the number of volunteers the future of the Carnival Weekend 2023 is uncertain. We love hearing ideas, but we are vitally in need of people who can put words into action. If you are interested in being involved in this year’s scaled back event or getting involved in planning for next year, we want to hear from you.
