Volume 13 Number 02 HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY FEBRUARY 2013 HIGHLIGHTS

Behind The BADGE DALLAS COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT FROM THE SHERIFF March 15, 2013 marks a historic day as we embark on a first of its kind of celebration. The Dallas Sheriff’s Department, under the guidance of The Bridge’s planning committee, will bring to life what I have envisioned for this department for so many years. For the first time, we will be able to celebrate with an employee recognition banquet, which so many other area law enforcement agencies are already fortunate to have annually. Let’s make it a memorable event. Many thanks to everyone who has worked so diligently on this event; whether it be as a volunteer or as a sponsor. —Sheriff Lupe Valdez

Dismantling Organized Crime Photo: Chief Deborah Foster, Deputy Evan Evans and Deputy Vaudelio Zuñiga are presented a ceremonial check. The dismantling of a major marijuana trafficking organization resulted in the distribution of assets to five area law enforcement agencies. The Texas Department of Public Safety Office in Garland hosted the event on Feb. 7, 2013. The Dallas Sheriff’s Department received $86, 104.63 for the efforts of two deputies, along with a K-9 partner, who worked with officials from the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Wylie Police Department, the Collin County Sheriff’s Office and the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office. Deputy Evan Evans, his K-9 partner, and Deputy Vaudelio Zuñiga took part in the Dec. 4, 2011 operation. The operation involved the movement of large amounts of marijuana and cash between Dallas and Phoenix. Suspects were observed removing an air conditioning unit from a horse trailer to reveal a hidden compartment used to hide currency, marijuana and firearms. $685,825 in cash was seized at the location along with two rifles and a firearm.
