Michael Sørensen is Design Director and Partner at Henning Larsen, leading the firm’s projects in North America. Henning Larsen, one of the leading design firms in Europe, has an international practice in architecture, landscape, and urbanism. The firm has designed many iconic projects, including Cockle Bay Park and the Biotope, Kiruna City Hall and Vejlands Kvarteret, and the Harpa Reykjavik Concert Hall and Conference Centre (in collaboration with Olafur Eliasson). The firm has been recognized with multiple design awards including the International Architecture Award, Architizer A+ Awards (finalist), Fast Company’s World Changing Ideas Award and the Mies van der Rohe European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture.
As North American Design Director, Michael works with large, multinational teams of consultants and clients to maintain a strong concept throughout all phases of design. Major projects completed include the University of Cincinnati’s Carl H. Lindner College of Business and the Public Service Building in Minneapolis. Currently, Michael is leading the design of various civic, cultural, mixed-use, and higher education projects including the Raleigh Civic Tower in North Carolina, Amazon’s new Boston offices and the Performing Arts Center in the Seaport District, the University of Toronto Mississauga´s ACT Building, the Etobicoke Civic Centre in Toronto, and the Toronto Downsview Framework Plan, one of the largest developments underway in North America.
