THE FOURTH TEXAS GENERAL EXHIBITION OCTOBER NOVEMBER DECEMBER

1942
HELD BY THE DALLAS MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS THE MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS OF HOUSTON - THE wrrrt MEMORIAL MUSEUM OF SAN ANTONIO
f7he Texas General Exhibition eminating from the desire on the part of Texas Museum directors to establish an annual exhibition which would bring before the public through museum showings, representative works of Texas artists, is now in its fourth year. The idea of assembling the exhibition in r~~ tetion by the three sponsoring museums is carried out, though for the past two years it was assembled by the Dallas Museum of Fine Arts as a part of the State Fair with the thought of avoiding duplication of effort considering that a Texas exhibition has always been held in Dallas at that time. This is the first time that San Anton io has had the privilege of organiz ing the exhibition . The war has naturally affected the artists so that the number of entries was much less than in prev ious years. In comparison to the 546 entr ies last year we had 267, less than one half as many.. Art ists are fighting the war as hard as anyone because it is above all, a war for what artists stend forfreedom of expression and life. The jury wi th one exception was from out of the state. Howard Cook, one of the country's distingu ished painters and printmakers is from Taos, New Mexico; Weeks Hall, a painter and art critic is from New Iberia , Louisiana. Ward Lockwood, noted American painter, formerly from Taos, New Mexico and recently chairman of the Department of Fine Arts of the University of Texas is now a Captain in the U. S. Army at Kelly Field. AWARDS 1st 2nd 3rd
