The Brief The client had obtained a rolling short term lease on the courtyard space in front of the grade 1 listed historic Cambridge House, located in Mayfair London. Situated on Piccadilly, this mansion had originally been the home of the Duke of Cambridge in 1774 and then of British prime minister Lord Palmerston in the 1850s. When last open it was the home of the navy and military club, known as the ‘in and out’ club, which had such famous members such as TE Lawrence and Ian Fleming. The objective was to find the best solution to make commercial usage of the space with limited budget and non permanent fixtures and fittings. The Concept Dalston Department Store proposed an upscale street food market idea that made full use of the historic setting of the mansion and location. A Very British Affair food and drink market, named “AVBA”. The market would host British and commonwealth innovative street food and drinks and operate 6 days a week targeting tourists, destination and local business and events. The Execution DDS created the spatial layout, styling design and branding identity and project managed the building team and design execution. In addition DDS was asked to deliver full support for the concept, and in doing so delivered:
- AVBA website and communication tool that allowed for data capture - social media presence - a launch plan including exclusive tie up with key media - consulted on all prop design features and furniture - sourced staffing and created drink menu for the bar concept - researched and attracted top street food traders for the market. ------
