A Note from Elmer Churampi

A NOTE FROM

Elmer Churampi

Fourth + Utility Trumpet

GROWING UP IN PERU, access to music education was extremely limited. Fortunately for me, my father first introduced me to the trumpet as a young child and nurtured my interest. Music quickly became my life. I would spend hours absorbed in practicing and watching videos of performances—all fueling my dream to come to America to pursue music.

Thanks to generous supporters in Peru, my dream became reality at the age of 13 when I moved to Michigan to attend the Interlochen School. Today, as the Fourth + Utility Trumpet in the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, I am grateful for their help and the music education programs that made it possible for me to fulfill my aspiration of becoming a professional musician.

Financial resources should not determine someone’s ability to access music education opportunities. Just as others helped make my professional dreams come true, I now want to help other students have the same, transformative experience – and I hope you will join me.

As a musician, I am especially proud that the DSO also provides instruments for those who cannot afford them through the Young Strings and Kim Noltemy Young Musicians programs. Like many, I remember when I was given my first trumpet; it was like I had received a new voice. For others, an instrument is a new career or an escape – but all students, whether they go on to be a professional musician or not, will treasure the lifelong memories and friendships made through music.

The DSO’s music education programs are some of the greatest gifts to young people. These programs not only expose children to the world of classical music, but also help develop life-changing skills and provide opportunities for professional success. When you choose to support the DSO, you have a direct, positive impact on the success of these programs, changing the lives of aspiring youth.

This holiday season, give students the gift of music education by supporting the Dallas Symphony. Together we will continue to empower future artists, leaders and world citizens through music education.

Sincerely,

Elmer Churampi Fourth + Utility Trumpet

P.S. Double the impact of your support! New and increased gifts made by December 31, 2022 will be matched $1 for $1 by our partners at First Horizon.
