Community Growth Center Thesis

Degree M. Arch

Semesters Spring and Fall 2017

Project Location Fairground Park, St. Louis, Missouri

The Community Growth Center originated from the idea of creating a space where youth can have a safe place where they can have fun and learn at. It evolved into a community center that addresses a variety of issues in North St. Louis City around Fairground park. This information was uncovered through looking into the census, American Community Survey, analysis of the area, and a survey. From this information each area of the building was designed to address certain issues plaguing the area. This building was designed to help relieve the issues in the area but due to the sheer scale of the issues throughout the area there needs to be a greater effort to bring up this area.

One of the largest areas of the building, the Urban Agriculture Center, is the also has the biggest influence in the community. This center provides a place for the community to learn how to grow, cook, and plant for their own use. The center also gives the community the support to start their own community gardens throughout the community.

River City Community Center

Degree M. Arch

Semester Summer 2017

Project Location Cape Girardeau, Missouri

This River City Community Center Project was a 6 week studio project where we were challenged to look into issues at a city that we are very familiar with and call home. The first 3 weeks of this was spent on research and documenting the issues and possible solutions we came up with. The last 3 weeks of this was about designing the building. The issues that I approached were youth and low-income family engagement. In Cape Girardeau there is a lack of activities for either of these two groups to engage in the downtown area. This is increased during the evening times when the only things open are bars and restaurants. The project here not only provides spaces where both of these groups can enjoy their self but it also provides a new center of activity for the city. There is a outdoor plaza that can be used throughout the year to host events and concerts.

The park area to the left is a multi use space. Throughout the year it is to be used for a play area for the community. Whenever there is a band or activity on the stage it then can be used for seating.

The Cafe area is used throughout the year as you would a regular cafe. When events are held here and the weather is nice the doors can be opened up to the outside and the space becomes much larger.

Newrock Community Business Center

Degree M. Arch

Semester Fall 2016

Project Location Rockford, Illinois

This studio project was a part of master plan of a new city called Newrock. The master plan was centralized around the idea of the Attention Restoration Theory. This theory states that exposure to nature helps a person de-stress and relax. So the master plan focused on keeping nature central to the design. The southern area of the master plan is the commercial district and the location of this building. The Community Business Center is designed to be the business core of the new city. Due to its central location in the commercial district it is a landmark seen through the trees and easy to access. The building consists of a light rail station in the basement and meeting rooms of varying size throughout the rest of the building.

Prodigy Academy Revit Modeling Job

Time line Aug. 2016 Cont.

Project Location Cape Girardeau, Missouri

In this project I was contacted to create a 3D model, renderings, and video for the Prodigy Leadership Academy. What I will create for them will be used for marketing to gain funding to get the project built. In this project I was given cad plans created by the Architect and after a few meetings I was able to create the model from what the Architect and the client, Russel. The following is what I have created so far for them. Process: Received the .dwg files from the architect, broke up the views in the file to have a single file for each view it was labeled, used the information from the meetings to create the basics of the building, and then have been communicating with the client and Architect to fine tune the building to their vision.
