T-House - A Case Study

This project introduced the architectural case study combined with the concept of dwelling. Using a full range of investigative strategies and methods utilizing secondary sources, students chose a house to further study and dissect. The house I chose was the T-House in Wilton, NY by German architect Simon Ungers, which main feature is a 10,000 book two-story library crowned atop the houses core.

Urban Incubator - Office Mid-rise

This incubator is designed in the business sense: helping the growth of small start-up tech companies and in return, giving back to the community. With an emphasis on the play of light, technology and social interactions, the urban incubator has a prominent stance at the corner of 5th and Spring St, providing a stepping stone for small businesses, interested v, and tech-enthusiast alike.

turner field reconsidered - Urban re-Development

This master plan proposal is for the reclamation of the Turner Field site and its adjoining parking lot megablocks. Flanked by I-85 and I-20 interstates, Atlanta’s node of connectivity is cut off by a highway junction that divides its adjacent neighborhoods. This dismemberment has resulted in the formation of contrasting urban typologies and segregated demographics within each quadrant. This urban proposal is a bottom-up reaction to a landscape of highways, pavement and forest that intends to serve as a catalyst to unify Atlanta’s severed urban fabric. Turner Field Revisited

New urban blocks are derived from existing grid language. Larger blocks are subdivided according to the ideal block size of 260-360 feet (Siksna, 1997)

Pedestrian accessibility and walkability is integrated by splitting urban edge and providing public space on street corners.

Identity and spontaneity are expressed through architectural variety. The units hold urban edge yet are allowed to create spatial variety in the courtyard.

Understanding Tectonics

As an architect, understanding the inner workings of a building’s structure, systems, and materiality is key. However, this important aspect of architecture is often overshadowed in the architectural pedagogy in favor of pure expressionism and theory. Over the years, this hasn’t been lost in my education and only grows stronger through matriculation.
