A RCHI T E CT URE POR T F OL IO PROJECTS: 2020-2022
Hi! I’m Damas Dwinito Pradipta. I am a third-year undergraduate architecture student at Institut Teknologi Bandung. For me, Architecture is not just about its visual aspect. Instead, architecture is a place that could accommodate people’s social, economic, and cultural behavior through design. As an architecture student, I tend to find the reasoning behind every creative exploration decision. I aspire to learn more about architecture, mainly from the perspective of the practicians.

BOARDING HOUSE Project: Architectural Design Studio 3 Supervisor: Permana, S.T., M.T. Typologi: Residential Year: 2021 Site: Bandung, Indonesia
“Ferien” is a German word for “holiday”. The main concept of this boarding house is to make people experience a holiday in this quiet boarding house. This idea came based on the shifting paradigm of how people live in our residences, especially boarding houses. Before the pandemic, people used not do many things in their boarding houses. When the pandemic occurs, all activities must be done inside our private rooms to minimize contact with others. That could lead someone to fatigue. This Ferien Boarding House tries to make the users feel like they are on holiday to prevent that from happening. That concept comes to implementation by giving nature presence to the area. That could be seen by using natural materials such as wood as the main accent of this building. However, nature’s presence also comes in many forms. The other example is the sound of a water splash that residents could hear from their private unit. The outdoor area mimics the feeling of being in the nature. It comes with an unpolished concrete sitting area surrounded by gravel, water, and trees.

During the pandemic, getting enough vitamin D is highly recommended, especially for those who are infected with COVID. With those in mind, Ferien Boarding House is trying to fulfill users’ need to be exposed to sun rays naturally.
Creating mass by respecting the regulations
FERIEN BOARDING HOUSE
Extrude mass to add some volume to current mass and cut to make circulation.
Adjusting the mass to respond to the sun’s direction toward the face of the building.
Define spaces for vertical circulation.

All units have the same layout. This typical unit has an approximate size of 197 sqm with a bathroom inside it. The natural light comes directly from the window that separates indoor and outdoor balconies. The furniture is mainly made from wood. The color scheme of this bedroom unit is a warm tone that combines brown from wood and accents of gray and white.

COMMUNITY AND BUSSINESS CENTER Project: Architectural Design Studio 3 Supervisor: Permana, S.T., M.T. Typologi: Community & Bussiness Center Year: 2021 Site: Bandung, Indonesia
Community and Bussiness Center are designed to respond to ITB Tracer Study on 2020 to 3002 alumni. It shows that not more than 7% of alumni have their own business maintained. Therefore, the need to build a facility that accommodates civitas activities to develop and innovate is prohibitive. This Community and Business Center covers all civitas need who have interest in technology and art. However, The building has some consideration in the design process. The site is located in Jl. Ganesha. It is surrounded by three historical buildings categorized as cultural heritage buildings. The Community and Bussiness Center should not drag all the attention to the building. It has to respect the existing surroundings still. Due to that consideration, Glasshaus is designed with these main concepts.
Reflect The facade and landscape are designed to reflect the silhouette of the historical buildings, so it will not draw all the attention. Centralized circulation All the floors are connected with a grand ramp in the middle to create unintended interaction. The ramp is also designed with a standard that fulfills the universal design requirements.

CONCEPT
GLASSHAUS
Glasshaus Community and Bussiness Center is located near 3 Bandung historical buildings with their unique architecture style. Glasshaus’s mass is rounded with no edges to respect the existing buildings. Therefore, it will “neutralize” the three different styles with a simple one.
Define the site boundary and respecting the regulation.
GLASSHAUS
Creating a volume mass that maximize the floor count.
Adjust the mass form by adapting the three historical buildings nearby.
Covering the masses with glass to create a facade that can reflect the three historical buildings.

GERABATA
Plered is a well-known city as a community-based brick and pottery crafter. It has numerous local artisans that are really into pottery and making it their primary occupation. Unfortunately, as the times move on, the fame and sales slowly fade out of their existence. Youngsters barely know about Plered and don’t have any interest in local pottery crafts. Therefore come “Gerabata”. Its main goal is to promote Plered once more after its nonexistence. Gerabata is a collective where local crafters could do the whole pottery process, from molding the form, incinerating, and even selling it to the customer. It also has its exhibition hall to display some of the local’s work. Then, of course, visitors could try making their pottery as well.
CONCEPT Sinking the Mass As a response to the existing ontour, The masses should have been sunk to reduce the cut & fill technique and maximize the current condition. Organic masses To maximize the natural form from the surrounding, The masses are designed to be more organic and don’t have rigid edges Fluid outdoor circulation Organic and fluid circulation is made to give the visitors a distinct and new experience throughout exploring the area . Locality The use of brick as its main accent
