The notion of ‘kitchen’ in the broadest sense, from sourcing to preparation; from preservation to cooking; from serving to eating; from gathering to cleaning has been at the heart(h) of our homes, cities, ecologic systems and cultures. Contingent on the drastically changing circumstances that we cannot foresee at any near moment, our approach to the kitchen will certainly change yet it would always be one of the main tools to respond to new cultural practices, economic, artistic and social endeavours. The starting point of my project was the “ceramic kitchen”, which took the concept of kitchen as a metaphor, incorporating similar steps but providing a different experience. By thinking about the stages of the kitchen concept, I tried to reduce it to the concepts of interaction and transformation. I aim to emphasize the steps of change resulting from user and space interaction.
[01] CERAMIC CENTER OF GALATA| INTERIOR DESIGN GRADUATION PROJECT (IND402) : 2019 -2020 Spring Design Strategies By determining a clear macro-form, I decided to detach and sculpt the building from existing structures. Functions were positioned according to the light receiving condition and main circulation lines. The water element was placed in the heart of the space to intersect the permanent user of the space and the “temporary user from outside.

[02] REVIVING THE MESERRET STREET COMPETITION PROJECT
with Merve Ă–ner AkdaÄ&#x; ,Mehmet Taylan Tosun
In order to contribute to the development of spatial qualities in Meserret Street, which was determined as the competition area, we started with the aim of obtaining design ideas that will allow the production of urban-public open spaces and socialities with high spatial quality in the context of architectural-urban environment theories and practices. Our approach to the field is based on the fact that the streets as the communication space between home and work constitute the third volume in the development of the city dweller and the city.
[02] REVIVING THE MESERRET STREET | Competition PROJECT (Denizli, Turkey) 2020 Spring DENIZLI AS A PRODUCTION ENVIRONMENT Denizli plain has been a production and trade center by taking the power and abundance of the water back throughout history. Ancient cities have made great contributions to the development of social life and art as well as trade. Art was the most important accelerator in the development of society. The water elements and games in the cities were the most important of that period.
CULTURAL MEMORY Three large ancient cities that feed each other and cultural memory around Denizli are best used in urban cultural geography (urban landscape) campus. The main streets multiply with communal courtyards and areas. The gathering areas are festive with water elements and colorful marble flooring patterns. Offering a colorful diversity in Denizli and its surroundings, marbles are used throughout the city, defining areas.
NARRATIVE of MESERRET A Water games park B Neighborhood playground, skateboard park C Opening of Denizli mansion garden to the street. D Glass and ceramic workshops and street activities E Stage and event area F Top-covered commercial areas G Cooperation / open-air cinema H Underground parking area +Agora square, exhibiting the cultural geography of Denizli I ÇĹnar Square connection J Theater area connection
URBAN SCALE IMPROVEMENTS 1. Campus satisfaction “neighborhood” Beautiful and accessible structures 2. Refreshing Open Spaces Proactive transformation with water leaks and lumps. 3. “game” oriented street experience Participants, sustainable, transformable areas that can be transformed
Denizli mansion is a cooking day with the neighborhood once a month. Once a week, a handicraft market is set up on the street fair street. There are production and sales-oriented workplaces in the commercial areas on the ground floor facing the main square.
The coexistence of neighborhood-based small-scale businesses and art and design manufacturers along the path of joy is at the heart of sustainable transformation.
4. Socio-cultural functionalities 5. Visual continuity and integrity
In the area where the historical flour factory has its transformed structure, the culture of open-air cinema, which continues for many years, is kept alive with cinema nights held once a week.
A participatory transformation has been developed through urban improvements on meserret and using “game” as a facilitator.

Computations: Hans of İstanbul, Spring Term Project 2019 (Kurşunlu Han, İstanbul)
[03] COMPUTATIONS: Hans of Istanbul Coordinators : Deniz Tümerdem - İpek Kay- Semra Horuz
The preliminary project will focus on ‘Hans’ with similar typologies in Istanbul’s historical peninsula. The visual and three-dimensional rhythms perceived in ‘Hans’ are observed through various environments. The main project focuses on Kurşunlu Han (Rüstem Paşa Caravanserai) in Karaköy, which includes Geneose, Byzantine, Ottoman (Mimar Sinan) architectural layers and recent additions. As a commercial center, the building examines the relationship between “old timers” and “new comers” in detail. The design parameters discovered in the Avan project are compared and parameters are defined for Kurşunlu Han.
[03] COMPUTATIONS: Hans of Istanbul | Spring Term Project 2019 (Kurşunlu Han, İstanbul) PRE-PROJECT: ANALYZE and UNDERSTAND THE HAN The function of the arches in this building differs from other Hans. Arches guide the users by creating corrridors. The tunnels formed by the elongation of the arches at the main entrances make thw inner and outer relationship more defined.
DESIGN PROCESS Han has tree different parts which one is closed area (shops, cafes) other one is semi open areas for circulation. It’s usefull for experience the open areas like water. Part are removed from the enclosed areas make stronger to the relation with outside. The layout of the shops in the ground floor plan with the traces of the arches in the first floor plan.
[03] COMPUTATIONS: Hans of Istanbul | Spring Term Project 2019 (Kurşunlu Han, İstanbul) MAIN PROJECT Since Kurşunlu Han is located in an are sorrounded by artisans and shops, creating a network a map by solving its physical and relotional features in the urban context. Developing proposals for a courtyard as a square where actors in a scene play “old timers” and “new comers”.
DESIGN PROCESS It was aimed to reach the design according to the needs by making many diagrams such as usage areas, routes of different user types, density and storage areas.
Areas of intervention; the lower part of the existing staircase and the lower part of the unused arch, shop.
[03] COMPUTATIONS: Hans of Istanbul | Spring Term Project 2019 (Kurşunlu Han, İstanbul) A “Han Council” was proposed in the design aimed at discovering new and old users. PROCESS and AIM Located at an important point in Karaköy, Kurşunlu Han is a transition axis like in the old times and suggests a route that connects to this axis and intersects different users.
While dividing the intervened volume according to functions, it was considered as a historical building and a temporary structure was formed that only touches the walls.
FUNCTION DIAGRAM An area where the works related to the space are exhibited, open work space, presentation and meeting area.
Typologies , Fall Term Project 2019 (Kabataş, İstanbul)
[04] TYPOLOGIES: Hospitality Co-Living Coordinators : Fatmagül Aslaner, Maya Türkmen- Semra Horuz
Under the Typologies Module studio focuses on “hospitality” concept “hospitality” is not merely a “basic service provided for accommodation for a limited period of time” An experimental and contemporary approach towards use-specific interiors, exploring new possibilities. Unpacking the systems and components of interiors towards developing new approaches. Critical thinking towards pre-defined concepts, specifically delivered in dualities such as temporary /permanent, trasitionary / stationary, nomad / settled.
[04] TYPOLOGIES: Hospitality | Fall Term Project 2019
Located between two buildings, one side of the volume overlooks the greenery, while one facade is related to the urban texture.
PRE-PROJECT
The volume, which is shaped according to the functions needed and the profile of the user, is divided into sections.
In the preliminary project where the context is left to the designer, the defined volume is aimed to be a living unit suitable for temporary use.
DESIGN PROCESS Since it is a limited volume, I have structured the functions more clearly and easily. While there is a sleeping and hobby area above the entrance level, the volumes that meet other needs are defined at the bottom. USER PROFILE Although it is a design suitable for a single person to live, changing and transforming furniture has been designed by considering scenarios where more than one person will spend time.
MAIN PROJECT The project of transforming the six-storey building in Meclisi Mebusan Caddesi into a temporary co-living space, assuming that it has been emptied. ARCHITECTURAL PROGRAM Presenting points of view between floors and making functions related, without completely detaching the floors from each other.
CONCEPTUAL IDEAS To maintain the vertical differention in the context in a vertical manner to the structure scale. To strengthen the vertical position, make a volume along the floors and shape the entire fiction around this volume To design furniture suitable for double-sided use to enhance the interconnectedness of spaces and increase the pass through between functions.

Public Interiors: Kandilli Fall Term Project 2018 (Kandilli, Ä°stanbul)
[05] RECESS IN KANDILLI Coordinators : Nihal Yaylalı, Işıl Çokuğraş
Exploring the possibilities of definning public interior on the shares of Bosphorous where water and city meet. Kandilli pier and near enviroment will be the site and contextualize design ideas. This park, where we aim for an area where cyclists can be gathered, offers easy access to stair-ramp relationships.
[05] RECESS IN KANDILLI | Spring Term Project 2019 (KurĹ&#x;unlu Han, Ä°stanbul) ANALYZE and UNDERSTAND THE SITE The project, which aims to connect Kandilli Park to a more powerful way with its street elevation and user mass, enables indoor atmospheres to reach the park gradually by taking advantage of the differences in the elevation. FIRST IDEAS In order to strengthen the relationship between the park and the pier, semi-hexagonal seating elements used in the park were used and were positioned so that the view was comfortable.
Examination of the boundaries of the Bosphorus Line before proceeding to the project area in Kandilli.
A semi-enclosed space where cyclists can repair their bicycles also strengthens this interaction.
Collectous Spring Term Project 2018 (Boğaziçi University, İstanbul)
[06] HETEROTOPIAS: COLLECTOUS Coordinators : V. Şafak Uysal, İpek Kay, Doruk Çiftçi, Semra Horuz
Making a new reading of the Boğaziçi University library according to Foulcault’s Heteropias principles and interpreting it in different ways of use while preserving its function. The principles guide the transition to design. According to the 4th principle that I have dealt with, the spaces are reflected in the design as temporary spaces and permanent spaces. Finding the principle equivalent of the accumulation of the library and the time to gather together.
[06] HETEROTOPIAS: COLLECTOUS| Spring Term Project 2018 (Boğaziçi University, İstanbul) The fourth principle is related to time zones. It is the accumulation of everything with the accumulation of time. Gathering all the times, ages and topics in libraries in one place and organizing status is the reflection of this principle in space
To uncover and enhance this situation, we propose a new accumulation unit for the user to create her own process for the constant accumulation of knowledge in the library.
Invisible Cities,Fall Term Project 2017
[07] INVISIBLE CITIES: EUDOSSIA Coordinators : V. Şafak Uysal, Maya Türkmen, Semra Horuz
After the interpretation and design of the city of Eudossia, one of the Invisible Cities of Calvino, the construction of a structure belonging to it. Transitions between houses in the city extend to different planes and the formation of road networks. The interpretation of the concept of “colored carpet” mentioned in the book as roads and connecting the buildings. The open construction of the buildings instead of being closed by walls, and the separation of private and public spaces is largely eliminated.
[07] INVISIBLE CITIES: HETEROTOPIAS| Fall Term Project 2017
This city, which has a colorful carpet, is extremely dry and rocky. There are living spaces formed by the combination of units that decompose according to their functions.
