2O Rebecca Hartley is a breast cancer survivor, single mum and all-round inspiration from Knutsford. The driving force behind a packed summer of events in Cheshire, Questions she is looking forward to a quiet family Christmas.

1Full, real name (including any embarrassing middle names!) Rebecca Zoe Diane Hartley

2What do you do? I am the founder and managing director of two businesses: Saving Grace Events, where we design and deliver extraordinary events and experiences for corporate and private clients, and Tatton Park Pop Up Festival, a boutique outdoor festival in Cheshire, where we put on 35 music events across seven weeks throughout July and August. Now the festival is over, we’re already buzzing with ideas about 2023 and how we can put them into practice!

3Who shares your life? My 15-year-old son Zach and my dog Cora, a beautiful little Chihuahua.

4What’s your highlight of the past 12 months? Launching the Tatton Park Pop Up Festival during the pandemic and seeing the incredible reaction it received. It meant so much for people to be able to connect and enjoy live entertainment again.

5And the worst moment? As much as the festival was a huge success, I can’t say I enjoyed the stress at times! But it made me realise that I’m much stronger than I ever imagined. It was all worth it in the end.

6If you could come back as any animal, what would you be and why? Cora – because she is highly pampered, gets to sleep all day and doesn’t have a care in the world!

7What’s your desert island disc and what does it mean to you? ‘Zoom’ by Fat Larry’s Band. It reminds me of being incredibly happy as a child.

8If you could have one superpower what would it be? To be able to eat and drink anything I wanted without gaining weight – very superficial, I know!

9Who is your all-time hero? My dad. Sadly I’ve lost both of my parents in the past few years. But if I can be half the person he was in life, I’ll be very happy.

10Any fears or phobias? I wouldn’t call it a phobia, but wet floors in public pools give me anxiety, imagining the germs – especially busy water parks with lots of kids. I’m getting stressed just talking about it!

11What would be the fi rst thing you’d buy if you won the lottery? A round-the-world trip for my whole family and best friends, whilst I thought about how to spend the rest! 13If you were representing your country in the Olympics which sport would you choose? I’d be a sprinter. I have no patience, which rules out any kind of endurance or long-distance sport. I get bored too easily.

14What is your favourite drink? Ch everything about it! ampagne. I love 15Which reality show would you have the best chance of winning: Strictly, Bake O or I’m a Celeb? I did a charity version of Strictly and danced the quickstep – I got joint top marks from the judges. I’d enjoy the jungle too. I’m quite brave… except with rats!

16What is your guilty pleasure? I’m a self-confessed shopaholic. I don’t understand people who say they go shopping and can’t find anything they like. That has never happened in my world!

17When did you last laugh uncontrollably and why? On a recent trip to Croatia running an event, one of my team was so tired editing a reel for our social media that she fell asleep and dropped the phone on her own head.

18You’re hosting a celebrity dinner party – who’s on the list? Idris Elba, the late Queen, Oprah Winfrey and Tony Robbins [US motivational author].

19What’s your favourite place? Anywhere by the sea that’s sunny. Roca Marina in Majorca is a favourite, I have many happy memories there and it’s the last place I went with my father.

20What are you most proud of? My biggest achievement by far is raising my son Zach. Being a mum is challenging, but seeing what an amazing young man he is turning into fills me with pride every day. Be the fi rst to hear about next year’s festival by signing up for the newsletter at tattonpark

It’s that time of year again…

Get your tax return ticked off your Christmas list so you can enjoy the fun. And don’t forget the capital gains rule, says Rebecca Jones, tax director at DRE & Co chartered accountants

As you’re probably all too aware, the deadline for online submission of self-assessment tax returns for the tax year 2021/22 is 31 January 2023. This applies to individuals who are self-employed, partnerships, shareholders in receipt of dividends in excess of £2,000, directors and those with rental income, to name a few.

HMRC issues penalties for late submission, even where there is no tax liability or the tax due was paid on time. Penalties increase further if a tax return becomes more than three months overdue, to a maximum of £1,300, plus the potential for tax-geared penalties ranging from 5% to 100% of the tax liability in more serious cases.

If you require any assistance with the preparation or submission of your return before the filing deadline, DRE & Co chartered accountants can help. We adopt a friendly approach, with local teams offering a prompt and professional service.

Alongside more corporate-level advice, we provide a full compliance service for preparation of personal and trust tax returns. Our skilled team can advise on specific queries you may have and also assist with tax-efficient planning relating capital gains or inheritance tax.

From 6 April 2020, HMRC now requires individuals to report a

sale of any second property or a property outside of your principle private residence or other available reliefs via a 60-day capital gains tax return. What’s more, you are also required to file a self-assessment tax return for the year in which the sale happened.

In the recent Mini Budget, the government released plans to reduce the basic rate tax from 20% to 19%. It was also announced that the additional rate tax band of 45% was to be abolished; however, due to uproar from the public and MPs, this decision has since been reversed.

Should you require any assistance with future tax calculations, or planning or advice following the updates, please email tax@dre.co.uk or call your local DRE & Co office: Oswestry 01691 654353; Ludlow 01584 875715; Shrewsbury 01743 241581; Newtown 01686 626534; Wrexham 01978 310600, or Knighton 01547 528383.

Meeting the deadline is essential if you want to avoid penalties
