CROPITOLIO: A MIXED-USE URBAN FARM COMPLEX INTEGRATING HYDROPONIC AND AEROPONIC SYSTEM Undergraduate Thesis Project July 2021
ABOUT THE PROJECT CROPITOLIO IS A MIXED-USE URBAN FARM COMPLEX THAT INCORPORATES THE TWO MODERN THE FARMING METHODS IS HYDROPONIC AND AEROPONIC SYSTEMS. THE PROJECT AIMS TO PROVIDE AGRICULTURAL OPPORTUNITIES TO THE FARMERS AND LOCALS AND ENHANCED THEIR SKILLS IN FARMING THROUGH THE HELP OF TRAINING CENTERS. THE PROJECT ALSO HELPS TO ESTABLISH FOOD SECURITY IN URBANIZED AREAS ESPECIALLY IN THE PROVINCE OF SOUTH LUZON. IT PROMOTES THE TOURISM OF IBA AND BOTOLAN ZAMBALES AND CREATES AWARENESS ABOUT HYDROPONICS AND AEROPONICS TO THE LOCALS AND VARIOUS DEMOGRAPHICS.
CONCEPT INTENTION: THE CONCEPT OF THE MIXED-USE URBAN FARM COMPLEX IS “HAND-HOLDING SPROUT”. THE SPROUTING SEED
HAND-HOLDING SPROUT
SYMBOLIZES A NEW HOPE IN RISING AND NOURISHMENT WHILE THE HAND REPRESENTS THE GOLDEN HANDS OF

THE FARMERS. IT PORTRAYS THAT THERE IS ALWAYS A BEGINNING OF SOMETHING AND SOONER IT WILL GROW ON SOMETHING BIGGER THAT WILL BEAR FRUITS. ARCHITECTURE RIPPLE EFFECT IS DESIGNING FOR A BIG IMPACT. THIS RIPPLE EFFECT CAN GO ON A VERY LONG TIME. EXTENDING THE CROPITOLIO’S INFLUENCE TO THE LOCALS IN TERMS OF FARMING, THE VISION WILL BE VIVID THAT PEOPLE CAN DO URBAN FARMING IN THEIR OWN HOMES IN THE FUTURE.
DESIGN APPROACH:
CONNECT
Connection of spaces should be interrelated to each other.
SCALE
Scaling of spaces and structure helps in identifying the hierarchy of the facilities
DIVIDE
Spaces should be categorize according to its function.
ZONE
Strategical zoning can help the total flow and movement of the target users of the site

COMMERCIAL BUILDING
GROWCERY is the commercial building of CROPITOLIO wherein the market and the farm-to-table restaurant are located. Fresh goods are directly sourced from the farm and processed to the food processing facility. Fresh processed crops are delivered to this facility. The market is where you can buy crops at the cheapest price and the farm-to-table restaurant offers plantbased recipe.
GROUND FLOOR PLAN The design development shows the goal of having free space in the ground floor that can create seperation for the market and the farm-to-table restaurant

ADMIN-TRAINING-RESEARCH BUILDING Admin-Training-Research Building is composed of 3 different facilities and its function. The admin is located on the ground floor, the urban farming training center for the farmers and locals is located on the second and third floor and the research center is located on the fourth floor, where researchers can study the crops than can benefit and help to develop the practice of urban farming.

DORMITEL
Oasis Dormitel is one of the amenities in the agri-tourism zone, it can cater the tourist who wants to visit CROPITOLIO and do their farm tour. Aside from the tourist, the students in the training center can use the dormitory facilities as their resting area. It also has a convenience market on the ground floor it will serve as a nearby store for the people going to the bay walk and central park.
FORM DEVELOPMENT DIAGRAM The design strategy for the dormitel is to create division between the podium and the tower. Sun shading facade is evident on the facade. It is achieved by using the pointed pattern accents on the exterior wall, it also creates a sort of illusion when the user is looking from the ground up to the top of the building.
