DANCE INSTITUTE SOUTH AFRICA | A BRIEF INTRODUCTION
Our Mission | Dance Institute South Africa is about to Revolutionise the way you look at Dance Teaching in South Africa. Through our international working relationship with the International Dance Teachers Association (IDTA), the biggest and highest regarded Dance Teachers organisation in the world (in over 85 countries), and special relationship with Ms Anna Jones, president of the IDTA, we are in the process of raising the bar of Dance Teacher and Professional training in South Africa. For too many years Dance Teachers had to make do with unrecognised local dance qualifications, not sufficiently preparing them for the -‐‑ now booming -‐‑ Dance industry. In Modern day South Africa, Dance Teachers and Dance Professionals have career opportunities in so many different fields, from running successful Dance Centres and Studios, to teaching in Schools, and even supplying the Theatre, Corporate events and Cruise Ship industries with services from Choreographry to Performances. Television has also been dance mad, with shows such as So you think you can Dance? and Strictly Come Dancing providing professionals with great exposure and glamorous careers. In this highly competitive environment, it is all the more important to ensure that your training as a professional teacher and performer is at the highest possible standard it can be, and that you hold a qualification which will be recognized wherever you decide to take your Dance Teaching skills, be it Australia, China or even Barbados. With this in mind, Dance Institute South Africa is bursting onto the scene with powerful Dance
Courses, initially focussing on the Latin-‐‑American and Ballroom Dance Genres, but later expanding to incorporate several other genres. Along with training Dynamic new professionals, Dance Institute is also launching an excellent new tool for Dance Schools across South Africa -‐‑ Medal Tests. Based on the IDTA’s Medal Test system, it has been adapted for local application, and gives Schools and Studios a new Universal standard to evaluate dancers’ levels outside of a competition environment, whilst providing dancers with a progressive development from beginner through to professional, which is lacking in Latin & Ballroom. Beyond this, we also provide syllabus coaching services suited to Competitive orientated teachers, along with business model consultation to help your dance studio or dance career achieve its maximum potential.
Our Home | Sharing a dynamic studio environment with Cape Town’s leading Multi-‐‑genre Dance Studio, Enerchi, Dance Institute South Africa has planted it’s dance shoes firmly in the new hub of dance in Cape Town. Situated at both campuses either in the hustle and bustle of the CBD’s Loop Street, or in the leafy Southern Suburb of Bergvliet, we are a convenient 20 minute car or train ride away from Cape Town most areas of the Cape Town Metro. The surrounding suburbs of Cape Town also provide affordable and safe housing for young students. Enerchi is an established Dance studio providing classes for all ages and levels of Dance, and employs some of the top professionals in their respective fields, providing the perfect practical training ground for soon-‐‑to-‐‑be professionals.
Our Team | At Dance Institute South Africa we pride ourselves in pooling together some of the foremost experts in their respective fields of Dance, Anatomy, Business, Music and Theatre. Our team of professionals are not only highly qualified to present the courses which they do, but have a combined industry experience of over 100 years. Anthony Rau | Director and Course Coach With a history of Competitive Latin-‐‑American and Ballroom that stretches back over 15 years, including a prolific 3 year training intensive in London with the world’s best Latin & Ballroom coaches, Anthony has competition credits including SA Champs, Blackpool British Open, World Champs, International Champs and UK Open. Along with this, he has completed his Associate, Licentiate, and Fellowship in Latin-‐‑American along with his Associate in Ballroom through the IDTA, and going on to coach several SA Champions & successful professional candidates for their IDTA Exams.
