Changes at API What’s to come
In recent years, API has expanded the reach of its activities beyond SA and NT; and has given considerable emphasis to growing its commercial entities such as general insurance and travel. We have also enjoyed considerable success in more recent times with our Employee Benefits Program, which is offered to significant sized businesses as a reward and recognition tool to assist such businesses retain staff. At the Special General Meeting in August & AGM in October last year an update was provided on our efforts to forge a closer working relationship with API Ltd, which operates in NSW, VIC & TAS. The merger would give us greater buying power, improved access to national benefits, concerts & events and ensure API members & clients Australia-wide continue to get value for their membership. We are pleased to announce that an agreement has been reached and API (SA & NT) will merge with API Limited effective 1st July 2009. The new partnerships will bring together two outstanding organisations and provide even more benefits to API members and clients Australia-wide. As the two organisations merge there will be a number of changes, however the benefits and services will remain unaffected. You can continue to access the program as usual with our phone numbers & websites remaining the same during the transition. We are excited by these changes and the benefits that they will bring for our members, clients and staff. On behalf of the Board and staff of API, Thank you for your continued support. Enduring Power of Attorney What does it mean? No-one wants to think about being in the position of requiring an outsider to manage their affairs because they have lost the capacity to make their own decisions. But what most people don’t realise is that, if they lose their mental capacity without having made an Enduring Power of Attorney (EPA), an outsider could be appointed to manage their financial and legal affairs. As South Australia’s Public Trustee, Mark Bodycoat points out, “The best time to appoint
someone reliable to look after your assets and financial and legal affairs is when you can still make decisions yourself.” It’s also worth considering an EPA when circumstances are not so drastic. Your attorney can use it on your behalf when you are travelling or living overseas and are not present to make important decisions.
One misconception about an EPA is that the attorney needs to be someone with legal training. Under an EPA, your attorney can be anyone you trust and who you think has the ability to manage your financial affairs. While many people do choose to appoint someone with legal training, it is not essential. Public Trustee can prepare an EPA for you and act as your attorney. Make sure you prepare your Enduring Power of Attorney while you have the capacity
to do it. Take the opportunity to call Public Trustee on 8207 2074 to discuss your requirements. Make sure you prepare your Enduring Power of Attorney while you have the capacity to do it. The representatives from Public Trustee can explain these things in easy to understand language. winter recipe:
Greek-style lamb shanks
Long slow cooking brings out the natural sweetness of the lamb, which is complemented by the delicate lemon flavor of the crushed coriander seeds and bay leaves. Serves: 4 Preparation time: 20 min Cooking time: 5-7 hours Cooking temperature: high Slow cooker size: standard 1 tablespoon olive oil 4 lamb shanks, about 1.5kg 1 large onion, thinly sliced 4 teaspoons coriander seeds, roughly crushed 2 tablespoons plain flour 600 ml chicken or lamb stock 150ml dry sherry, dry cider or white wine 4 bay leaves 2 teaspoons honeysalt & pepper Mashed potato or rice and a green salad, to serve. Sliced lamb shoulder or leg steak can also be cooked in this way if shanks are unavailable. Recipe sourced from ‘Ultimate Slow Cooker’, Sara Lewis, 2008
1.
Heat the oil in a frying pan, add the lamb shanks and brown on all sides. Transfer them to the slow cooker pot, arranging them so that they almost stand up with the thickest parts on the bottom on the pot.
2.
Add the onion to the frying pan and fry, stirring, for 5 minutes until lightly browned. Add the coriander seeds and cook for 1 minute. Stir in the flour then add the stock, sherry, cider or wine, bay leaves and honey and season with salt & pepper. Bring to the boil then pour over the lamb. Cover with the lid and cook on high for 5-7 hours until the meat almost falls on the bone. (The high setting is necessary because the shanks are much denser than cubed meat.) Turn the meat once during cooking, if possible.
3.
Transfer the lamb shanks to a serving bowl cover and keep hot. Carefully lift the slow cooker pot out of the base unit using oven gloves, pour the contents into a saucepan and boil rapidly to reduce the liquid by half. (Alternatively, simply thicken the liquid with a little corn flour mixed to a smooth paste with cold water instead.) Spoon the sauce and onions over the lamb, discarding the bay leaves, then garnish
with oregano leaves and lemon rind. Serve with creamy mashed potato, or with rice and a green salad mixed with black olives.
If your slow cooker has a maximum working capacity of less than 2.5 litres then cook only 3 lamb shanks, using the same quantity of the other ingredients

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Voldemort is tightening his grip on both the Muggle and wizarding worlds and Hogwarts is no longer the safe haven it once was. ‘Mountadam is the most elevated vineyard in South Australia.’
winereviews:
Mountadam Vineyards Established in 1972 as one of Australia’s pioneer Chardonnay producers, Mountadam was founded by the late David Wynn, without question one of the most significant contributors to the Australian wine industry and an important part of the Mountadam story. In selecting the land for the Mountadam vineyard, Wynn was the first to recognise the potential of a cool, elevated site to produce wines of great elegance and structure, and chose an area high above the Eden Valley, which he named High Eden. At 550m above sea level, Mountadam is in fact the most elevated vineyard in South Australia. Mountadam is locally owned and has seen a significant investment in vineyard improvements & expansion under the careful eye of winemaker Con Moshos, who has a distinguished 23-year career making fine wines at cardholder Tip Petaluma.

2008 Eden Valley Riesling
2008 Pinot Gris
2007 Cabernet Merlot
The fruit is sourced from a 39 year old vineyard in the beautiful Eden Valley. The vines have a modest yield which accounts for the sheer concentration of flavours on the mid palate.
Planted in 1997, this mature vineyard sits on a portion of the Mountadam estate at around 420m above sea level.
This blend of the classic Bordeaux varieties Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot is a long time favourite at Mountadam. Sourced entirely from the estate the wine has an elegant structure reflecting the characters from the renowned cool climate of the Eden Valley – a sub region of the Barossa.
Aromas of lemon/lime, flowers, mineral and spice. On the palate a grippy lightly chalky texture and bone dry with flavours of lime, flowers, spice and mineral. It has soft acidity and is ideal for a weightier meal. If you’re looking for a stunning wine to impress, search out this delicious wine and enjoy it for its freshness and youthful simplicity. Expect to pay around $21.
The wine is a mild salmon pink colour and shows delicate aromatics of jasmine blossom and ripe melon. The palate has abundant textural flavours of ripe apples and pear with a firm citrus backbone. The stress endured by the vineyard this season saw the harvest occur much later than usual. The combination of a number of factors sees the wine with more colour than normal and a richness of flavor, making it very approachable as a young wine. Expect to pay around $21.
A blend of 75% Cabernet, 25% Merlot, this wine has subtle purple tinges of medium intensity. Spicy Cabernet aromas are integrated with the deep red earth scents of Merlot. The palate is of lively primary grape fruit flavours of plum and cherry supported with subtle hints of vanillin, tobacco and fennel. An excellent vintage for both Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, this wine will reward at least 5 year cellaring. Expect to pay around $15.
