Character of Urbanization
Contents
In the first decades of the 21st century, China is experiencing the most radical migration from rural to urban sites in the human history. Rapid urbanization is the inevitable trend that will bring lots of problems. Meanwhile, urbanization is the identification of human civilization. We should balance the good and bad aspects of urbanization, instead of losing the so-called identity in it.

Chapter I Urbanization does not mean that countryside disappearing. If rural culture disappears, the urbanization will be monotonic. Chinese village is the manifestation of cultural diversity need protection. The process of urbanization should not at the cost of collapse of rural civilization and sacrificing of cultural heritage. Of course, the urbanization process may cause some problems for farmers. Rural civilization is different from city, which involves the lives, production, and spiritual problems of many farmers. Therefore, the urbanization of village must solve production problems. Bringing science and technology of modern civilization into the village and providing villagers with financial resources, villager will stay in the rural and the countryside culture will be saved. Chapter II Many cities are in the rapid expansion regardless of the update of old downtown in China. The old city has been in decline as a result of planning confusion and poor quality of construction. We have to face the problem of the old city renaissance. City prosperity is based on industrial economy, but its development should not at the cost of ignoring the culture relics, especially for the area of huge cultural value. In the first place, urbanization of current cities is to guarantee the high quality of downtown update, rather than expand blindly in size and population. As the previous center of city, only by retaining identity of culture could this area get its prosperity and activity back. The center of a city should possess characters both ancient and innovative. This is the significance of Xufu Street transformation. Chapter III Plato's thinking of city is still wandering. As a whole, in theory, a mature city should undertake and actually push the advance of people's psychology. In the principle of human development relevant of city , the city's man-made structures generate a critical impact on human thinking .In fact, not only the development of the modern city, but also the people’s spirit, are all imprisoned by the concrete. As social animals, human beings could not survive without interaction with others. This requires architects or planners put the people's well-being in the first place when design buildings or cities. People's feelings are usually intrigued by the installation of site in many cases. That is why I try to create interactive space in residential design to stimulate people's activities. Chapter IV Urbanization is not just of substance, but also of people. People going into the city must learn to appreciate the city's architectural civilized environment, use the city's public transport, communicate with strangers civilized, and even “dance” according to the rhythm of the city. And these all depend on that the "city men" change their stereotype and cognitive structure inherited from their ancestors. In the migration process, most adults come to the city accompanying with their young children. How to prompt migrant children to fit with new civilized environment? The basic education is the key to change migrant children’s ideology and adaptation. However, quite a part of migrant children have no access to school. It is necessary for planner to pay more attention to the basic education facilities. Enough education resource for children is perhaps the most fundamental driving force of urbanization. The more a person feels the city, the more complex of the city he will realize and the more confused he will feel. If urban construction only comes from the history, context, materiality entity, authenticity, we somehow cannot imagine that anything contemporary made by us contributes to our city. But it is indeed those factors make up our beautiful city and village. What I concerned is the rhythm between the surface and hidden, the reality and imagining, the contemporary and the eventually becoming history.

Stay in the Countryside
First-level administration
From the Soil -- The Foundations of Chinese Society Xiaotong Fei Chinese society is fundamentally rural. I say that it is fundamentally rural because its foundation is rural. We often say that country people are figuratively as well as literally "soiled" (tuqi). Although this label may seem disrespectful, the character meaning "soil" (tu) is appropriately used here. Country people cannot do without the soil because their very livelihood is based upon it.
By Phyllis Lin
Second-level administration Third-level administration
Fourth-level administration
Soil in the village is not only the basic for living but also is the carrier of nostalgia for every generation of Chinese. Only those who make a living from the soil can understand the value of soil. City dwellers scorn country people for their closeness to the land; they treat them as if they were truly "soiled." But to country people, the soil is the root of their lives. In rural areas, the god represented in the most shrines is Tudi, the god of the earth. Tudi is the god closest to human nature; Tudi and his wife are an old white-haired couple who take care of all the business of the countryside and who have come to symbolize the earth itself. When I went abroad for the first time, my nanny slipped something wrapped in red paper into the bottom of my suitcase. Later, she told me in private that if I had trouble getting accustomed to my new home and if I were too homesick, I should make some soup from the stuff wrapped in the red paper. In the package was dirt that she had scraped from her stove. I remember seeing a similar custom in a movie called A Song to Remember, which took place in Poland, an Eastern European agricultural country. It made me realize even more what an important role the earth plays and should play in a civilization like ours. No matter what the reasons, the basic unit of Chinese rural society is the village. I hope to find somewhere, people is farming on the land. Their life is in harmonious with farm season. Farmers are self-sufficient. They enjoy the advantage from modern society and avoid city problems.

Inspiration Yanming Lake Village locates in rural-urban continuum areas, which endows it the double urban and rural resource advantage. Meanwhile, the internal base has numerous farmed fish ponds and wetlands water systems. Through site investigation, we hope to conduct an innovative design in this area with the employment of sustainable development mode achieved by researches on advanced theories, technology and experiences, to bring in the agricultural landscape and to create a low-carbon, green, environmental, energy-saving and ecological village. Our final goal is to encourage farmers to stay in their hometown and earn enough money by farming industry and tourism.
Background More and more rural land is used for city construction. Besides, the number of farmers who go to big cities for living rather than stay in their hometown continues to grow.

Multi-functional Weaving
We hope to find a way to connect modern life with agriculture. The design combines the elements of farming and different functional areas of village by taking advantages of water. Tortuous channel morphology can maximize water contact area to carry more water, which is good to improve the work efficiency of water recycle system. At the same time, there are some underground water tanks in the functional groups, they act as the nodes in water recycle system. In addition, the river, as the carrier, links up with each functional area and village nodes.

Site Condition
Location Kaifeng is a city with stories. The Riverside Scene at Qingming Festival of Mr. Zhang Zeduan in Earlier Song Dynasty which recorded the living scene of citizens in Kaifeng City has left people a deep impression. In Earlier Song Dynasty, the government cancelled the curfew policy, which led to the frequent trade business. From then on, Kaifeng City has become a top-notch commercial and trade city at that time and its economy has been prosperous from then on. Thus, we considered how to immerse the history and culture of Kaifeng in this location to reset the original look of the city and revive the memory through updating and stimulating spaces and reshape the flourishing economic business scene.
Early states of the old world
However, the GDP rank of Kaifeng was 13/18 in Henan Province in 2013, it was not a good performance in city economy development. It has been very important to solve the problem of decline in the traditional downtown. The location is in the central axis of the city, which enjoys the significant regional advantage in both transportation and culture. The scheme employs the design process of “status survey - contextual study - architectural conservation - feature inheritance - spatial updating – industry activation - partition development” to realize the aim. It is an effective strategy to change the decline of old downtown by reforming conventional industry and increasing block activity. First, the introduction of high-end industries stimulates investment and tourism development. The project divides development of modern industry into 4 phases in order to make full use of existing resource and reach sustainable develop strategy. Second, the excellent road system and green system attract more people and retain people to arouse the block activity. Attractive commercial shop and interesting public space promote each other during the development process in the downtown.

Architecture is the physical carrier of historical context in the city development. In order to inherit the characteristics of Song’s building in Kaifeng, we extract typical symbols from existing building. Second, we organize the building layouts according to courtyard pattern. Historical relics are the important parts in this block so it is essential to protect them. Most of new buildings try to inherit Song’s context by imitating its building style.

Background Urban village is the common result following city development and expansion. Because of cost less to live here, Urban village attract many people to come, which result in high density. The interesting thing is, instead of creating a close neighborhood, resident in Urban Village have little interaction to each other because they are not familiar with each other. And in the absence of public space in this area, the situation becomes even worse. Thte Urban Village turns out to be a large scale of Cage Homes in HongKong.

Bisection and Share
Neighborhood Relationship is limited in the modern high-rise residence and communication is decreased among people who live in the city with great pressures. The design breaks traditional high-rise residence pattern, which is vertical extension. It trys to arrange flats into horizontal development pattern. This new form provides residents with public space and stimulates neighbor behaviors. By providing more resting flatforms in the buildings, people would enjoy a more open living style.

Equal Education---Planning of School Distribution in Dengfeng City Type: Practical Project Site: Dengfeng, China Date: 3, 2014-6, 2014(16 Weeks Total) Tutor: Pro. Liu Shaojun Role: Team leader Contribution: Investigation, Data collection and analysis, Questionnaire survey, Update school distribution. According to Urban and Rural Planning Law and Managerial Technique Standard, the project comes up with a more reasonable planning for every community in Dengfeng City. Based on large amounts of data statistics, we predict the community population and migrant children ratio. The planning aims at to meet the children’s educational requirement in every community. Only solving the education problem can the urbanization achieve the real success. 41
42
Background The amount of migrant children is increased fast recent years, however, the educational facilities are added slowly. Many migrant children cannot attend a school due to this kind of deficiency. So this special planning is aimed at to solve this problem. According to master planning and population change in every community, we adjust the existing school and add a number of schools in the area to meet the requirement of migrant children.
Density of Population Mobility in the World
Dengfeng is a famous tourist city for its S h a o l i n Te m p l e i n Henan province. There are large numbers of migrant populations in this city, at the same time, those people bring their children to the modern city for a better education.

Chemical cold light source, based on the chemical mechanism of glow stick, also called Oxalic acid ester and hydrogen peroxidesystem, could greatly increase the uminance and endurance by using the High Energy High Polymer Material as reactant.
The luminance, endurance and color of the chemical cold light source could be determined by the component of reactant and its quantity. According to the principle of the conservation of energy, Light intensity and time is inversely proportional when the reactant is invariant. Most chemical cold light source could work more than 20hours.
