IIN T R O NTRO
My name is Daniel Acutt and Im a third year industrial deign student at California College of the Arts. I grew up in Zimbabwe, a small country in the south of Africa where we were constantly faced with extraordinary challenges that pushed us to adapt in so many different ways. In 2013 I got on a flight by myself to explore the United States for the first time and begin my tertiary education at CCA. I’ve always believed that having the ability to create its the greatest tool to re-shape the world around us.

FUNCTIONALITY
CAPTURING With new break throughs in panning and 360 degree cinematography, the helmet makes it easy to switch between different cameras and devices allowing you to capture every rushing experience.
CONCUSSION SENSOR Fitted in the back of the helmet is a replaceable concussion sensor to warn you of possible unknown high risk injuries after an accident
WEIGHT AND VENTILATION The helmet is incredibly light and well ventilated, maximizing your riding experience. The inner mesh is modeled off the cross-sectional body structure of a seahorse, connected into a honeycomb pattern producing a form that is both highly compressional and significantly secure.

SMART LIGHT 4 WEEK PROJECT
DESIGN THINKING. I wanted to create an affordable light that would be recognized as a centerpiece in whichever space it occupied. Inspired by the interior structure of an airplane, I began to iterate on forms that were both incredibly light as well as structurally sound.
UNDERSTANDING FORM After deciding on the final form, sketching was the best way to gain an understanding of how it would be created.
PROCESS Keeping in mind the tolerances of the laser cutter, I built the internal structure in CAD, in a way that most of the parts could easily clip together during assembly. I chose nylon because I needed a fabric that would stretch over the whole form whilst allowing light to dissipate evenly within the structure.
FUNCTIONALITY
WEATHER Once connected to the weather app on your phone, Smart light is able to alert you on various weather changes throughout the day.
LOCATION BASED Smart light is able to sync with the location of your friends and family to make you aware of their proximity from home.
ALARM Based on the time you set your alarm to, Smart light will gradually increase its brightness to full intensity when your alarm goes off.
Although the final form is covered in fabric, the beauty of the internal structure is preserved by the interesting dynamic between the form and its shadows. Smart light is not just a lamp but is also an interactive tool to engage you with your family as well as your surroundings.

M E M O RY L I N K 12 WEEK PROJECT
P R OJ E C T B R I E F Design a toy that would become an object of memerobilia and be passed down from generation to generation.
INTERVIEWS I interviewed 20 different subjects to obtain a better understanding of what memorabilia meant to them. The interviewees ranged from ages 10 to 60 and varied in cultural background
"The greatest gift I could give my son is the gift of growing up in a loving family" -Ronny "I love going through old photos, its like a process of rediscovery." -Tyler
"I used to collect al sorts of american girl dolls, I used to dress them up like me" -Jenny

75%
Keep objects that they have created by themselves
80%
Keep objects that are representations of themselves
90%
Keep objects that are a reminder of family or home
The strongest connections with objects are those that represent memories of family, friends or home.
People form connections to objects that have been created by themselves or by someone close to them.
People form attachments to items that they feel are representations of themselves
VA L U E P R O P O S I T I O N How might we capture important milestones for multiple generations to experience? How might we resemble a particular relationship that provokes sentimentality as the product is kept over time?
=
Toy longevity is short. Our product is constantly evolving as customization and manipulation allow future generations to rediscover and enjoy it.

H OW I T WO R K S Memory Link is basically a timer that only times one specific
moment in a persons life. Once you set it, it captures a memory and embodies it for a lifetime. On each face of every link is a shape specific to the memory they represent. When the timer is set, the shape breaks up into hundreds of small pieces as the clockwork begins to move and time. These pieces move around the face throughout the year until the day of its anniversary where the pieces move together to recreate the form and allow you to appreciate the moment with which it represents.

Memory link allows you to take a step back from your life and appreciate the special moments that make up you who you are. Collect multiple different links and join them together around your wrist- connecting all your precious memories together and reconnect with them one at a time throughout the year
