With one scoop of the fishing net this flashlight could easily be picked up off the water.
I was inspired by the shape of buoys.

Observations One user in particular tilted the jigsaw back during their cut. This was not safe and extremely frustrating for the user to make their cut. The handle and the weight at the back are what likely contributed. Their hand slid back near the narrower part of the handle, leaving them with less steering control. It was noted that the user also moved the jigsaw in an upward arching direction from the user’s shoulder rather than pushing forward. Even users who had some experience with jigsaws before felt inadequate with attaching the blade. And any users that made angled cuts felt either helpless or irritated by its set up.
Making Angled Cuts Lower end models take up to 7 steps to rotate the body from the foot-plate. A key is usually supplied. Sometimes this process requires a good eye and a protractor to find the appropriate degree. In other higher end models like Bosch, they take about 5 steps and require a second tool to tighten the lock.
I focused on reducing the steps it takes to rotate the head of the blade of a jigsaw when making angled cuts.
I saw this compact saw by Black and Decker in person and I became fascinated with the way they made the body vertical.

This project analyzes the environment and interaction of riders using the Caltrain system. From our observations we discovered that there was limited space to normally use the machine when carrying a purse or bag as most riders do and need to rearrange the delivery of tickets and use of the interface of the ticketing kiosk. We also found that new riders needed more than just tickets because they were unfamiliar with navigating to the location or event they wanted to attend.
Less Room, More Forgetting This young woman and her friend were on their way to a giants game and had a multitude of items in her hand. As she bought her ticket she had no where to place her soda, so she placed it on top. Which wouldn’t be a bad idea if she had not started to walk away without her soda.
Elderly Man Using Machine There was an elderly man who was buying a caltrain ticket with a heavy backpack. Not wanting to place his bag on the floor, he went through the first few steps of the process with the same sort of struggles as the other people. However, when it was time to grab his ticket, he had to place his bag on the floor, and bend over to reach his tickets and receipt, he had to stay crouched though because he was not sure of what he had just grabbed.

Chair Accessible After coming up with a new configuration, we tested it out. Creating a foam mock up, testing out different scenarios such as a group of people using the machine and a person in a wheel chair.
Practical Other situations that we have mocked up is a full scale print out of the new map to test its legibility, also testing out situations where people would use the shelf for holing small items.

This was a group project about creating a satisfying and comfortable handle for many different types of users. This project included market research, survey documenting, prototyping, and user observations. My group documented a user’s experience with a number of handles in our controlled scenario, that enabled us to design a final handle.
First Analysis When first analyzing the process of pouring only water in the saucepan we noticed that: the users thumb could easily slip into the hot metal bracket, when rotating the pot to pour out the water, the hand has a hard time gripping the handle, and the angle of the wrist when pouring the water into the pot was a strain due to its weight and handle’s leverage. This analysis was followed by sketches contributed by everyone in the group, but the majority shown are by Chris Gamulja. Test models and final model were made by model-making guru, Jon Nguyen. Testing and documenting were done by Alyssa Biscocho, Trevor Kinoshita, and myself.

John arrives after work and sees his puppy, Sparky, happy and eager to come inside the house to be with him.
John lets Sparky in from the backyard and opens up the app and looks for the area he named after Sparky.
John presses the Water Now button that has been set for a fifteen minute run.
John does not set a schedule for this area because he does not arrive home at the same time everyday.
John watches Sparky bark at the lawn sprinklers from inside the house while the app counts down the watering duration.
John likes controlling the water with his app rather than walking over to the side of the house where the wall mounted controller is located.
