Matinecock, New York Matinecock offers a bevy of can’t-miss things to do, from attending special events, to getting involved in the arts and learning about local history; to dining at independent restaurants and staying active at area parks. Locust Valley, an unincorporated area in Oyster Bay Town, has 3,270 residents*. But its unofficial population includes those who live in the residential villages of Matinecock, Lattingtown, Mill Neck and Upper Brookville, in graceful manors and secluded estates along rolling two-lane roads. In 1869, Locust Valley became the terminus for what would eventually become the Long Island Rail Road’s Oyster Bay branch. Shops opened near the depot, and wealthy magnates built mansions in the surrounding countryside, giving the area the Gold Coast label. By the 1920's, with a school, water district and mail service, Locust Valley was clearly the area’s business nexus.
