This work takes its inspiration and title from the “paternoster-Maschine” in Fritz Lang’s Metropolis. The hidden, esoteric, and mysterious mechanisms of the harp are put under an aural microscope and built into an extended composition. The fixed media material was created by electronically altering recordings of harps, elevators, and sine tones- D.G.
