MICRO-CHURCH "The Church of the Future" emphasis | theory critic| Dr. Antonio Petrov year | 2016 collaboration| Abel Guajardo, Alejandro Guerra, Annie Benavidez, Clara Barba, Cyrus Melendez, Brittany Lowe, Daniel Rodriguez Suarez, Diego Hernadez, Jesse Gonzalez, Katie Marple, Laura Hernandez, Victoria Freeman, Yoana Penelova
A study about the relationship between geography and worship, and how it stimulates new forms of worship on a geographic scale. Using different drawing techniques, we recovered the relationships among spatiality, materiality, detail and ritual wthin religious American history. With the goal to chart out key characteristics, not as epistemological provocations, but as manifestations of material, spatial, and aesthetic transcendence, we hope to unearth how modified forms of religion not only saturated the prevailing presence of the secular but also completely transform the sacred.

Electronic Church The church generated virtual environments around the world, allowing the online community to gather and worship over the internet. (Spatiality) The dematerialization of the church facilitated and maximized the amount of people they preached to, taking the church to you. (Aesthetics)

Individually, a research of the electronic church typology was conducted. Investigating how religion and the geographic, re-imagined material boundaries between consumerism and the media with the advancement of technology and need to reach the mass. In collaboration with Community Bible Church, we investigated how the church could evolve, from its current state, a metachurch, a church composed of many small churches. CBC was founded on a tripartite philosophy, that both frames and develops the church as it grows. Centralized is the physical embodiment of their principles, Universal is the platform in which the church explores “ever changing ways to share a never changing message, and Dispersed, a new territory in which the church is currently growing as a community through the discipleship process. The church is an embodiment of the community and without the people there is no church. With the constant effort to both expand and adopt new technological advances, we have developed a new religious typology, the micro-Church.

Spatiality The micro Church is both a communal monumental site and a private chapel. Intended to not be subjective, each chapel or (triangular) pod allows you to "travel" to the church and create your environment.

ROHE VISITOR CENTER emphasis | design location | Plano, IL critic | Dr. Angela Lombardi collaboration | Juan Sarabia year | 2016
The Rohe Visitor Center provides a gateway to the Farnsworth house by Mies Van der Rohe. The center is located in a flood zone area, and it proposes a flood mitigation strategy. The location was strategically selected to maximize solar exposure, activation of the Fox river, and preservation of fauna & flora. Different user experiences can be selected by visitors; exploring natural trails, or enjoying the riverfront. A buoyant foundation, will allow the building to become amphibious, adapting to land or water. The perforated metal canopy mimics sunlight piercing through the foliage, serving as a shading structure for the building.

Buoyant Foundation The visitor center explores a flood mitigation strategy, with an amphibious structure. With the implementation of a buoyant foundation, the structure is able to adapt to land or water. The buoyant foundation allows the structure to float on water, and stays in place with adjustable vertical stilts.

SAN ANTONIO COLLEGE OF ARCHITECTURE emphasis | structure location | San Antonio, TX critic | Michael Connor year | 2014
The San Antonio College of
Architecture's
thought-provoking design stimulates students' learning experience, emphasizing transparency as an architectural gesture. The exoskeleton and interior structure emerge as a sculptural element, while the mechanical, electrical and sustainable strategies manifest within the building, providing students with a canonical design template. The open floor plan encourages a sense of community within the college, wherein students and faculty engage in conversations leading to the exchange of knowledge.

EATALY emphasis | adaptive re-use location | San Antonio, TX critic | Dr. Angela Lombardi collaboration | Abelardo Ramos year | 2016
Eataly proposes the revitalization of the iconic Inter-continental Motors building, by local architect, O'Neil Ford. Eataly is an Italian Market aiming to create a learning experience while shopping. Preservation of the existing architecture was an emphasis, particularly the floating pavilion shaded by mature oaks and cedar elms. The proposal will exploit the existing structure and open floor plan, adding portable bamboo partitions creating a fluid circulation and an option to create event spaces. A tensile structure will expand over the building providing a minimal and contemporary solution of the preservation of the iconic structure.

EVERGREEN MIXED USE emphasis | enviroment responsive location | San Antonio, TX critic | Michael Connor year | 2015
Evergreen Mixed Use is a environmentally responsive mixed-use development adjacent to San Antonio College. The design enacts on sustainable strategies such as building placement, renewable energy, and sustainable building materials to achieve a LEED certification. Evergreen combines health, affordable housing, with commercial programs in an effort to promote a live, work, play lifestyle. The dynamic and vivid facade activates the main intersection and attracts student life to the site.

III. venturi effect
Venturi Cross Ventilation Introducing apertures into the closed array of units allows fresh and constant air flow throughout all units, despite their lack of proximity to the prevailing wind direction. The venturi effect increases pressure and velocity of air flow, allowing a steady cross ventilation and increasing air quality in all units.

BRUNELLESCHI'S LIBRARY emphasis | design location | San Antonio, TX critic | Ana Sterner year | 2013
Brunelleschi's library, located in the heart of downtown San Antonio and adjacent to the Tobin Center of Performing Arts, is a celebration to the mastermind of the linear perspective, Filippo Brunelleschi. The library generates optical illusions and forced perspectives with the distortion of geometry. The library provides a spatial experiences of Brunelleschi's discovery.

LOTUS PAVILION emphasis | design location | San Antonio, TX critic | Ana Sterner year | 2013
Lotus Pavilion implements a metaphorical design inspired by the Lotus plant. Architecture interacts with the classical elements; earth, water, air and fire. The lotus' roots are attached to earth, the steam runs through water, floats on the air and opens with the sun (fire). In ancient Greek philosophy, Aristotle related each element to sensible qualities : fire is both hot and dry, air is hot and wet (vapor) , water is cold and wet, and earth is cold and dry. The design creates architectural moments to experience the four classical elements of life. The Fibonacci series and golden ratio, were utilized to create a proportional system.

ARTS & CULTURE DISTRICT MASTER PLAN emphasis | Profesional location | Confidential team | Ted Flato, Ryan Jones, Lewis McNeel, Kurt Kimsey year | 2018-Present
The Arts & Culture District Master Plan is a confidential project consisting of a transit hub, parking garage, residential units, and 2 arts buildings with abundant public spaces. I was involved in the interview process for the master plan by creating a package with diagrams and precedents. Also a competition for one of the arts building within the district in which I collaborated with architects providing design ideas & feeback, developed threedimensional model and physical model, diagrams, renderings and the presentation.
