UCLA Faculty Center Association, Inc. Annual Membership Statistics—OVERALL TOTALS 2000 to 2015 • During the 16-‐year period of 2000-‐2015, the U.S. and California have endured two significant economic recessions, with significant reductions in State general fund support for UC in each instance, impacting both: (1) the total of academic and non-‐ academic FTE on the campus; and (2) the compensation levels for those FTE. • In the aggregate, the membership total of the UCLA Faculty Center Association, Inc. in 2015 is essentially unchanged since 2000, a decline of just -‐2%: 2000: 2,350 2015: 2,305 • The HIGH occurred in 2007 (immediately prior to the start of the Great Recession) when membership peaked at 2,378. The LOW occurred in 2012, when membership had declined by -‐8%, dipping to 2,190.

UCLA Faculty Center Association, Inc. Annual Membership Statistics—OVERALL TOTALS 2000 to 2015 • The AVERAGE membership total during this 16-‐year period has been 2,320 members. • As of 2015, the annual membership total of 2,305 (an increase of 115 since 2012) has essentially returned to the MEAN, even though the 2015 total actually declined from 2014 by -‐2%. • HOWEVER, as shown by the chart on the following page, the annual membership totals have experienced significant more volatility during the six years since 2010, compared to the preceding 10-‐year period of 2000 through 2009 when the annual membership stayed within a narrow range between 2,322 (2001) and 2,378 (2007).

UCLA Faculty Center Association, Inc. Annual Membership Statistics—DETAILS BY CATEGORY 2000 to 2015 From a review of the data by individual membership categories, four (4) significant observations can be made: 1. The “ACADEMIC” category had 1,079 members in 2015, compared to 809 in 2000 (an increase of +33%). Since 2010, when the membership in this category was 878, the increase has been +201, or +23%. 2. The “EMERITI” category had 475 members in 2015, compared to 702 in 2000 (a decrease of -‐32%). However, the significant decline in this category occurred between 2000 and 2007. Since 2007, annual membership in this category has been relatively flat, in a range of 470 (low) to 491 (high). One possible explanation is that the significant decline in this category during the 2000-‐2007 period reflected membership separations (due to death or other reasons) related to the substantial number of retirements that occurred between 1991 and 1994 in the three UC Voluntary Early Retirement Incentive Programs (VERIPs).

UCLA Faculty Center Association, Inc. Annual Membership Statistics—DETAILS BY CATEGORY 2000 to 2015 From a review of the data by individual membership categories, four (4) significant observations can be made (continued): 3. The “NON-‐ACADEMIC” category had 283 members in 2015, compared to 400 in 2000 (a decrease of -‐29%). Almost all of this decrease occurred since 2009, presumably as a result of staff reductions. From 2000 through 2008, the membership in this category was relatively flat, in a range of 382 (low) to 400 (high). 4. The “ALUMNI” category had 60 members in 2015, a nearly +100% increase compared to 31 in 2009, when the membership category was introduced. The “CHANCELLORS ASSOCIATES” category had 39 members in 2015, compared to a high of 60 members in 2007.
