OBJECTIVE Develop a thorough understanding of design development processes in a hospitality project. In the assigned three-person team, design an 18 level bouique hotel renovaion located in an urban area of choice along with a speciicaion package. The scope of services consists of the design and individual and collecive branding of the following spaces: a lobby, restaurant, bar, retail space, guestrooms and a rootop bar. The design of the hotel is portrayed through several mediums including a physical and conceptual model, maquete, promoional video and presentaion boards.

CONCEPT Oregon is the home of seven of the most beauifully-capivaing natural features in the country. Scatered throughout Oregon, the Painted Hills, the Wallowas, Smith Rock, the coast, the Columbia River Gorge, Crater Lake and Mount Hood, make up these seven wonders. The name of the hotel, "The Prime," is directly derived from the concept, with "seven" being a prime number. A campaign called "The Seven Wonders of Oregon" acively commemorates each of the seven wonders within Oregon. Each natural feature, with such vastly different characterisics, is unique to Oregon and will be exclusively portrayed in a paricular space using vibrant colors and disincive form.

SOLUTION Located in Portland, Oregon, The Prime Hotel embraces and exhibits the seven extraordinary features of Oregon and encourages an acive and vibrant visit to Oregon. Upon entering the Prime Hotel, guests abstractly experience the Painted Hills. Open to the public, the retail space, Caldera Oufiters, represents Smith Rock. Proceeds from Caldera Oufiters go towards supporing and preserving the natural features of Oregon with the help of the campaign. Visitors can dine in at the restaurant, Accreion, where the design depicts features of the Wallowas, or relax at the 363 Lounge and Bar, represening the coast. The Prime Hotel accommodates its guests in luxurious rooms portraying the Columbia River Gorge with two disinct color schemes, providing two different atmospheres. The rootop bar, Myriad, portrays characterisics of both Mount Hood and Crater Lake, creaing an unconvenional design experience.

The Wallowas were formed by erupted volcanic islands in the Paciic Ocean 270 million years ago, which resulted in the process of two plates pressing together and fusing, which is called "accreion." These plates formed the mountains that are now known as the Wallowas. Upon entering Accreion, guests are enveloped by a passage made of stone that leads to a graphic wall with greenery and a metal feature wall. The earthy hues of the spaces welcome customers throughout the space, and they lead them through the Wallowas. A change in elevaion in the private dining area encompasses the heights of the mountains. The interior walls of the private dining surround the guests for an inimate dining experience within the mountains. A variety of seaing is offered to saisfy the guests' preferred dining experiences.

The coast of Oregon is a remarkable feature of Oregon, making it one of the seven wonders of the state. Combined with rock cliffs and crashing deep blue waves, The coast sits 363 miles long along the enire shoreline of Oregon, making it uniquely Oregonian. The name of the bar and lounge was extracted from the vast length of the coast. The 363 Bar and Lounge portrays the deep blue waves, interrupted by white crashes of waves like on the coast.

Smith Rock is an American State Park with scenic views of deep river canyons. The park contains several thousand climbs along with miles of hiking and mountain biking trails. The park contains a towered rock spire, where daring climbers take on the challenge. The term "caldera" refers to a steep, voided reservoir, which forms ater an eruping volcano collapses from emptying a shallow-level magma chamber. Caldera Oufiters provides rock climbing, hiking and camping gear to explore not only Smith Rock, but other wonders as well. Caldera Oufiters also features the original "7 Bikes for 7 Wonders," an event begun for the campaign, with Oregonian arisan-made bicycles being custom designed to represent each wonder of Oregon.

Inspired by the Columbia River Gorge, the guestroom levels incorporate elements of both the water and land. Over ime, the velocity of a waterfall causes the water to carve deeper into the rock and coninue to low upstream. They create breaks in the rock which cause the water to low in different direcions down the formaion, but only to come together and end at a unifying source. The guestroom levels offer two different experiences through color schemes.

12 The rootop bar and grill represents two of The Seven Wonders of Oregon. Mount Hood is the highest point in Oregon and sits at the center of the Columbia River Gorge. Crater Lake is the third deepest body of water in the country. The contrasing elements from both features incorporate well together to create the Myriad Rootop Bar and Grill. The term "myriad" refers to "a countless or extreme number," portraying the tall mountain and deep lake eecively. Features of Mount Hood and Crater Lake are integrated throughout the rootop. OBJECTIVE Research the culture of an assigned country. Design a unique restaurant in a secondary city that can cater and atract both locals and visitors. Implement a variety of seaing arrangements, including seaing for 150 people and a private dining area for 30, which can be divided into two private dining rooms. Develop branding and an ambiance for the restaurant that is cohesive and relaing to a concept. Ater research, include a bar that serves in line of what is appropriate for that paricular culture and country.

CONCEPT The country of Chile, with its elongated geographical shape, showcases a wide variety of climates, cuisines, fesivals, and landscapes, which overall creates cultural differences within the country. The Andes Mountains, stretching through the enire 2,653 mile long country, connects some contrasing and breathtaking sights of Chile. From the northern arid Atacama Desert and copper-rich Chuquicamata mine, to the central Laja Falls and all the way down to the southern Marble Caves, these extraordinary features come together to create an environment that unites this diverse country in a unique way. Inspired by Chile’s capivaing natural characterisics, "Tierra Pura," meaning "pure earth" in Spanish, was decided upon for the restaurant's name. Tierra Pura represents the harmony of these raw and pure examples of art and uniies the extensive variety of landscapes.

SOLUTION Tierra Pura brings unity to Chile by integraing and incorporaing inspiraion from natural aspects of this country of such variety. This space captures the rich hues of orange and blue, extracted from the various geographical features, creaing a contrasing, yet unifying space. The main dining area emulates the form of the Chile copper mines, with varying plaforms and shapes, while the open loor plan reinforces the concept of unity. With such varying cultural differences due to the extensive length of the country, Tierra Pura seeks to also educate both Chileans and visitors about the variety of culture and experiences that Chile has to offer.

OBJECTIVE Enter the Steelcase NEXT Coworking Compeiion and fulill all programming requirements for the compeiion. Research the purpose and environment of coworking spaces and Steelcase products. Design the coworking space using the shell of the assigned exising downtown Atlanta building.

CONCEPT Elasicity refers to the ability of change and adaptaion. This coworking place emulates the properies of elasicity; an adaptable environment, which can be conigured into the most appropriate collaboraive arrangements for projects. Also relaing to the concept of elasicity, the coworking atmosphere provides a lexible ime schedule, where workers have the ability to go to work whenever they want. When elasicity is experienced, potenial energy is present in the environment. Potenial energy results from posiion or coniguraion. Conceptually, this closely relates to this lexible work space in the way that energy is created when people are learning and working together.

SOLUTION A visually simulaing choice of palete aids in keeping the variety of users from different ields engaged and proacive while a variety of postures are made available throughout the space by incorporaing different types of Steelcase seaing to saisfy any occupant's preference. Illustrated elements of elasicity are interpreted within the design of the space with the goal being to encourage a constant low of innovaive and collaboraive energy throughout the space and maintain the engagement of a diverse set of occupants. Each level represents the two different states of molecules experiencing elasicity. Level One contains more collaboraive and focused spaces, where more energy is being created. This energy is illustrated in the layout of the loor plan, where spaces are disinctly separated and have a stretched-looking form. Level Two, which acts as the main entrance, contains more sociable spaces, where the layout of the loor plan is more relaxed and spacious. This is implemented into the layout of the loor plan by being spacious with less strict conformity to designated spaces.

OBJECTIVE For the Brasield and Gorrie Compeiion, teams of students from each discipline in the College of Architecture, Art and Design will be challenged to design and create a renovaion and construcion plan for an exising building and its interior for the tenancy of a microbrewery. The goal of this compeiion is to expose students to an interdisciplinary project delivery system to facilitate the design of a structure that incorporates sustainability, innovaion, and LEED construcion principles. The team will determine how the required brewing equipment will be organized given the space allowance and circulaion requirements and must include a central oice, ADA-compliant restrooms, a storage area and tasing area.

CONCEPT The concept of voids was extracted from the sweetgum pod itself. Covered with a contrasing surface of negaive and posiive spaces, the physical and visual properies of the sweetgum pod are portrayed and implemented throughout the design of the space. A contrast in looring between the factory area and the public space symbolize a contrast in negaive and posiive space, along with the suspended perforated metal ceiling detail and the slated cabinetry system. Selected metals produce a dramaic lighing effect to spread natural light throughout the space both effecively and conceptually by reinforcing the inspiraion of voids.

SOLUTION The design of this microbrewery considers a brew-space that is alloted for double growth and arranged for eicient circulaion. The brew process was prioriized in space planning to maximize eiciency of circulaion low for tours. Exterior signage is implemented into the design of the building for markeing purposes. A glass curtain wall separates the brewery and public space, which acts as an acousical barrier, but also prevents the spaces from feeling disconnected. The public area consists of movable pariions and cabinetry system to create a lexible space for possible events to add value and eiciency to space.

OBJECTIVE Research healthcare design and create a dermatology clinic and spa using the provided exising shell of a building. Space planning requirements of space adjacencies and minimum quaniies, such as waiing area seaing minimums, must be fulilled. Minimum square footages and quaniies of spaces must also be met accordingly.

CONCEPT Zephyr Dermatology Clinic and Spa provides serene and calming experiences during treatments and procedures. Zephyr, meaning "a sot gentle breeze," located in "The Windy City," Chicago, provides a calming escape from the harsh gusts of the city. The Zephyr Dermatology Clinic focuses on achieving the smoothness and gentleness of skin like the feeling of a gentle breeze. The Zephyr Spa provides services which create illusions of being weightless like air. The sleek design decisions, as well as the color palete of neutrals, blue and greens, embody the calming nature of a light wind. The neutrals are contrasted with darker hues, which symbolize the interruping, yet saisfying, breaks of stronger billows of the tranquil breeze. Various elements of a breeze are implemented into the design of both spaces. Such aspects of the space promote relaxaion and reduce stress before treatments both in the spa and dermatology clinic.

SOLUTION Design to create a disincion between spaces for the dermatology clinic and spa that are cohesive with separate entrances. Through extensive amounts of healthcare research and programming, develop an effecive loor plan with eicient egress paths, disincion between private and public areas and incorporate design decisions that are suitable for healthcare must be established. Such design decisions maximize privacy, protect personal informaion, consider paient stress and anxiety and staff eiciency.

OBJECTIVE In a three-person team, redesign the space of the MAFES Sales Store to improve traic low, sight lines and eiciency. Aim to reuse exising materials and equipment and locally-sourced products for the limited budget. Aim for a space plan with designated customer and staff areas to reduce confusion and chaoic egress paterns.

CONCEPT Mississippi State University prides itself on the history and tradiions embedded within the culture of the insituion. "True Maroon" is a common theme and culture experienced on campus in many aspects. The MAFES Sales Store has been a part of Mississippi State’s campus and the Agricultural Department since 1938. Through dedicaion and passion of crating cheese, the store has become very successful. The retail space relects this same passion, unifying it with the current culture throughout campus. Like MSU’s spirit, the space lively relects the "True Maroon" ideals that alumni, students, and visitors all experience.

SOLUTION Through purposeful design, customers are led though the space with high eiciency and clearly deined low of traic. A wooden coffered ceiling creates brighter dimensional interest juxtaposing itself with the mulidimensional ideas of what "True Maroon" stands for, while also creaing a warm, welcoming space. The wooden ceiling is relecively accented by resilient aged wood-like vinyl looring to accommodate the heavy traic within the retail space. To unify the space, mixed materials with various textures on the verical surfaces creates muliple visual interests. Tradiions, history, fear, dedicaion, faith, passion, heart, and unity come together to create elements of "True Maroon." These concepts, in turn, inspire the design decisions throughout the MAFES Sales Store to evoke a handcrated and industrialized space that mimics the products available. The colors of Mississippi State University will be implemented to reinforce branding.

OBJECTIVE In paired teams, complete a Cooper Lighing sponsored lighing compeiion. Free range of the design and seing of the space is given, but it must showcase Cooper Lighing products for all lighing decisions. Create accurate lighing calculaions with the required footcandles for each type of space to eiciently illuminate the space.

CONCEPT Pastel’s Bake Shop and Educaional Center is a full-ime bakery and part-ime cooking school. The classes are interacive and hands-on, with a small viewing area for others to watch the work being done in the industrial kitchen during lessons. Relecing the colors of the pastries, the name "Pastel’s" was decided on for the bakery. Each pastry is made with special care and individual detail, so no two are decorated the same. As with the scales of a ish, one will not ind two pastries that are exactly the same in the shop. Much like the theme found in "The Rainbow Fish" children’s novel by Marcus Pister, giving back is incorporated into Pastel’s business goals. By providing educaional cooking classes free of charge, Pastel’s is able to share the joy of cooking with others and give back to the customers that are so loyal to the brand and mission of Pastel’s.

SOLUTION Design a space that embraces innovaive lighing treatments and showcases eccentric ways to illuminate a space. Calculate the lighing footcandle requirements for the various types of spaces to eiciently lighing the space. Pastel's exhibits suspended ceiling iles, accompanied with direct down-lighing layered above. Many levels of lighing will be created using Cooper Lighing products, composing a dynamic space.
