Editor’s Post
Hello Monsters of Division 7 South! My name is Danielle Andaya and I will be serving as Valley Key Club’s Bulletin Editor for the 2016-2017 term.
Did you know… Female students were admitted into Key Club in 1977. That means Key Club went 52 years with only male members!
Since school was coming to an end, my time was constantly being used up due to studying, homework, presentations, and projects, giving me less and less time to create newsletters for the past two months. To make up for time, I’ve decided to compile news from April and May into this newsletter, as well as news for the month of June. In this issue, you can meet the newly elected board, see a recap of past events as well as be informed of upcoming events, and find out about the amazing Valley Kids Care: Youth Mentoring Program that took place earlier this year. Thank you all for reading and I hope I can do a great job as Bulletin Editor for this term. Good luck to all newly elected boards! Happy summer to all of you!

Valley Kids Care: Youth Mentoring Program Smile! The mentors of the Valley Kids Care Program all come close as they take a group photo. The mentors had just received their tshirts that day and were all eager to out them on and take a squad picture to remember that day and the program itself. Nothing makes a program official without matching tshirts!
Pass it here! Playing outdoor games was a huge part of this program, allowing the mentors and students time to bond together. Games that students played with the mentors include four square, volleyball, basketball, and soccer. As many students, played games, some preferred to do their homework, which some mentors helped them with.
Wacky photo time! During the last days of the Valley Kids Care Program, the mentors came up with a fun activity for everyone to do. Students were divided into groups with 1-2 mentors in each group. Each group were given a list of tasks of wacky photos to take, including tasks such as take a photo with your favorite tree and take a photo spelling out the name of your school. The students and mentors had a great time doing this activity and it is certainly a favorite activity for all of us.

About the Program The Valley Kids Care: Youth Mentoring Program is a student-run program that ran from February 2nd to April 1st. The program was every Tuesday and Friday from 3:30-5:30 and took place at Prairie Elementary School. The founder of this program was Valley Key Club’s last term’s President Bilal Baloch and with the help of other Valley High School students, this program wouldn’t have been possible. The goal of this program was to mentor elementary students by teaching them lessons on empathy, the meaning of love and friendship, tutoring them by helping them with their homework, playing outdoor/indoor games/activities with them, and just being there for them as their mentors.
“The Valley Kids Care Youth Mentoring is OVER! It took a tremendous amount of effort to make it happen, and it was a HUGE SUCCESS! I’m so grateful for my stellar team! Each led a classroom the entire program, with 4-7 high school mentors to around 30 elementary school students per class. My greatest accomplishment has been to start this program, and my hope is that it will continue on in the following years. I couldn’t be more confident with this team that it will. Our passion is indomitable.” - Bilal Baloch
Playing outdoor games was a great way for students and mentors to spend time together, as doing so builds friendship and caring with one another, as well as promotes teamwork. It is also a really fun thing to do with the kids and they really appreciated us spending time with them. On the last day of the program, mentors and students created bracelets with the kids, each displaying colorful beads and words such as caring, kind, friendship, etc.
