THE CONCEPT: CONNECTIVITY
FIRST FLOOR
Focusing on the very young and the elder generations, these vulnerable age groups will be able to take part in a range of activities whilst building relationships with one another. The centre builds on the idea of connectivity, fusing two generations together through a range of activities that all can take part in. With six main rooms each holding a different activity and identified with a single primary or secondary colour, this intergenerational centre is a welcoming and fun place to visit. From cooking together in the kitchen to reading and teaching one another in the library, the centre brings a number of benefits to the people of Aylesbury.

THE RECEPTION
A bright space that welcomes visitors to the centre. Through the reception desk and soft furnishings, the six primary and secondary colours; blue, red, yellow, orange, green and purple are incorporated.
9
THE LOUNGE By the entrance to the six main rooms, vision panels have been placed either side of the door and are tinted in the rooms key colour. This gives each room an identiy and becomes recognisable by both of the vulnerable age groups.
10
THE KITCHEN
A space that can be used by all. With stainless steel antibacterial worktops and slab finish cabinet doors, this kitchen is a hygenic space where all visitors can cook together. A low level island invites both the children and elderly to teach, learn and develop skills with one another.
11
THE DINING ROOM Using both benches and dining chairs results in a dining room where all visitors can eat together. Additional skylights and bi-folding doors connect the room to the outside and enables the children and elderly to enjoy the courtyard garden.
12
THE LIBRARY A bright and fun learning environment for all visitors with interactive furniture that can be moved around and used as tables and chairs.
13
THE PLAYROOM
This room provides the children oppertunity to run around and encourages the elderly to become more active. The large open space means visitors can play games together while open shelving links to an arts and crafts area at the back of the room. The playroom continues to connect to the outside through the green carpet, representing grass, and the structural beams taking the shape of trees.
14
THE BEDROOM With different shades of purple and a painted black ceiling with spotlights representing stars, the children and elderly can relax, read and rest.

THE CONCEPT: COMMUNITY Situated in Welwyn Garden City, the aim of the site is to introduce a new community to the once industrial area. While new housing will be built on the site, the history of the 1920’s factory and silos will be preserved as landmarks. Respecting the history and architecture, the production hall of the factory will hold a new 1920’s inspired restaurant on the rooftop while the silos will accomodate visitors through a hotel.
