About me This portfolio displays a progression of my undergraduate work at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln. Each project presented itself as an opportunity to solve a complex problem through conceptual thinking and design driven solutions. This dynamic creative process is centered around user’s need and human experience.

SHENANDOAH STEM CENTER
Shenandoah is a rural community located in southern Iowa looking to expand their school district to include a science, technology, engineering and math facility. Their goal for this facility is to encourage and provide more pathways for students to pursue their passions, while still giving back to the Shenandoah community. This facility will be led by faculty and staff, as well as leaders within the community to provide larger skillsets for students. This building is rooted in the heart of Shenandoah to enhance learning for youth and build connections to the community.
Team Project: Noah Schacher, Jose Cano, Amanda VanBuren, Claire Hiles
Building Concept After visiting Shenandoah, we were inspired by the strength of their community and wanted to have our new facility rooted in its culture. Our design process started with bending, folding and creating slits in paper. Through several iterations we worked to create a successful building form that connected the high school to the middle school, as well as having empathy for existing landforms.

community members, teachers and students. This vast space is filled with flexible furniture and storage for users to create, build and innovate. This space also has adjacent private huddle rooms, tech labs and a media center to support student’s creativity.
Learning Labs Through research, we discovered that students learn best through hands-on learning and wanted to incorporate it at the center of our design. This educational STEM facility has science labs, a mechanic and fabrication lab, a robotics lab and much more to assist students in their learning.

Site Context Our project site is located in the heart of downtown Lincoln in the historical Nebraska Typewriter Building. This 1900’s narrow elongated building is within walking distance of several restaurants, art galleries and live entertainment. It is also right next to the thriving Haymarket District and the University of Nebraska. This prime location represents itself as a great opportunity for a hostel and access to Lincoln’s diverse culture.
concept By using existing architectural elements to inform the design, I will create a space that stimulates the senses through the manipulation of light. The design solution will intrigue and guide users as they move through the space, disrupted by moments of suspension. While blending design, art and hospitality this space will aid in Lincoln’s demand to join the tourism industry.

NEXT is a private medical group that has existed in the Pacific Northwest for more than 20 years. They are a vastly growing healthcare clinic that emphasize preventive care and prides themselves in offering a variety of healthcare services in a single location. As of now, a majority of their work is dedicated to the baby boomer population, but they are looking to bridge the gap between baby boomers and millennials. This new facility is dedicated to providing staff with a range of settings that support diverse personalities and working styles, as well as having an effective and efficient healthcare delivery. My design intent is to position the interior built environment in a way that encourages movement. It will enhance the sense of community by providing collaborative and flexible spaces customized to the millennial population. The environment will utilize organic flow that enhances the experience of preventative healthcare delivery.
Concept This project started by utilizing evidence-based design and its impact on creating a positive and effective healthcare delivery model. The floor plan presented itself as an opportunity to challenge traditional practices and implement new evidence-based designs. The exam rooms and open office linked together created an on-stage, off-stage approach which is proven through research to reduce stress on staff and improve efficiency. The new facility also provides staff with a range of settings that support diverse personalities and working styles, to improve productivity and interdisciplinary collaboration. The NEXT healthcare
