BIRMINGHAM MEDICAL CENTER COMPREHENSIVE STUDIO [REVIT]
1
located in alabama, the birmingham Medical Center seeks to provide resources for the local community as well as immediate disaster relief. the facility is central to other shelters within the general area, providing a community shower facility, a communication and distribution area, and emergency medical assistance. In addition, houses for the workers are located on site, helping create a focus to the design of a main central core with various pieces of program pulling from it.

the green market and educational center is an accessible source for fresh produce. educational cooking classes and an urban sustainability demonstration center are also available to help teach how to live an overall healthy lifestyle through hands on learning. along with the accessible healthy market, the mobile outreach program will provide the community with food directly to the residents’ door steps; ultimate accessibility. as a whole, the green market and educational center provide all the tools to living a healthy, green, sustainable, lifestyle.

SITE PLAN
the reading railroad connected philadelphia to varying locations for over 100 years. while it is currently abandoned, an initiative to revitalize the viaduct into an elevated park has been proposed. Our proposal is to extend the viaduct toward the convention center and center city through the use of a bridge. the bridge is located at the end of the vine street crossing where the railroad had been destroyed. an exhibition space that commemorates the reading railroad can be found along the span of the bridge. a continuous gesture of torqueing and movement runs throughout the bridge and can be seen in the interior spaces and through the exterior roof. sustainable design is incorporated throughout by the double layered roof system and exterior steel tubes that allow higher or lower amounts of light into the interior space. these tubes also act as a sun shading device. A double glazed window system can also be found along the north-east side of the bridge to allow light into specific spaces and helps against strong North winds in winter months. The main goal of this bridge is to connect the two diverse communities through a sense of movement, torqueing, and remembering the railway past.

USES PLAN
Gray’s Ferry, a neighborhood located in southwest Philadelphia, has become a highly industrialized area. By extending the grid and urbanizing the area, the neighborhood will be revitalized. Proposed infrastructure using abandoned lines in the form of a trolley will be implemented, connecting to amtrak and making a clear transfer to center city. This ease of access continues by restoring the dignity of the sidewalks and reevaluating green spaces in relationship to streets. In order to reduce unused land, vacant lots will be in filled and some existing buildings retrofitted. Other sustainable aspects in the neighborhood include green roofs, solar panels, and storm water planters. Other highlighted areas are the underground mall, in which we reclaim CSX train lines, and the business district to the west. By establishing viewpoints within the context as well as on the waterfront, character and quality will be brought back to the river.

CHARETTES
HYBRID CHARETTE the objective of this project was to model two objects in 3ds max[minion] and maya[strawberry], and then create a hybrid form from the two. reflections is a hybrid of a strawberry and a minion. the form was derived from the analysis of a strawberry seed and the indents they create in a strawberry. once the form was determined the material was influenced by the glasses of the minion.

TOWER CHARETTE the object of the charette was to model a tower and render it using 3ds max. the modeling and rendering had to be completed within two class periods. when choosing the site of my tower, i thought about the form and how it had a water like shape to it. the way that the tower twists and bends is like a ripple of water. the location also highlighted the use of copper with its lighting and atmosphere. As a whole, the site and the tower both have a calm feel.

PHONE BOOTH CHARETTE this was a competition for the city of new york called “reinventing the phone booth. the form of the phone booth is simple and sleek, with the opportunity for advertisements around it. the interior is a large glass screen that mimics the dial pad of a phone booth yet takes a modern approach. the planters on the outside also follow the pattern of the keys of the dial pad.

GRASSHOPPER CHARETTE this charette was incorporated into my design 7 disaster relief center. the objective was to show our knowledge of the rhino plug-in grasshopper. the grasshopper object designed acts as a light fixture and an art installation piece. it relates to the curves and twists of disaster and allows for one to view it as something transparent and made of glass.

114th John Stewardson Competition
steppin stepping stones looks at the ideology of stones on water and brings the progression to life using 5 programmatic spaces. each space represents a stone on the water, leading one through the site within the berlin tiergarten, immediately adjacent to eberstraĂ&#x;e. the spaces include a reflective space, a disorientation space, a transformative space, a connection space, and another reflective space. each space is designed to give the user an experience that mimics it’s title. the reflective space allows one to sit and reflect while viewing the reflective pool. the disorientation space disorients the user by using multiple paths and reflective materials. the transformative space uses motion and curves to give the user a feeling of transformation while circulating through. the connection space uses arch ways and reflective materials to give the feeling of connection, and the final reflective space is a mirrored image of the first space. the progression begins and ends with reflection regardless of where you enter. stepping stones was designed to take the user on a journey where one can experience multiple transformations as they enjoy the procession through the spaces.
