Flo Rows

First Steps Collection Extended Code Unit 4 /oe/

Each week, Dad takes Flo to the coast for a rowing lesson with Anna. Flo rows well, and Anna is a great coach.

1

Flo and Anna take a boat onto the beach.

Anna’s job is to teach Flo to row. Flo and the coach tug the boat to the sea and hop in.

2

This week, a strong wind blows and the waves are big. ‘Best to play it safe,’ says Anna, as the swell grows and the gusts get freezing cold. ‘Let’s go back to land. Row, Flo!’

3

Too slow… A massive wave hits the hull of the boat and throws Flo into the sea. ‘Oh no!’ yells Flo.

4
‘Don’t panic, Flo! It’s not a problem,’ says Anna, as she rows across to Flo. ‘Your vest is on, so you can float.’
5

Flo is back on the boat and safe, but a bit wet. She feels the cold in her nose and toes. ‘I’m chilled to the bone!’ Flo moans.

6
Flo and Anna go back to land and meet Dad on the road. Dad has a big coat for Flo to put on.
7
‘Let’s go home,’ says Dad.
‘See you next week, Flo?’ asks Anna. ‘Yes! But I hope it won’t be as cold,’ responds Flo with a grin.
