ROYAL OPERA HOUSE
Dirty Stories Told Beautifully The opera is full of shocking and provocative stories. This is in contrast to the stereotypical perception of opera as boring, dull, or dry. The brief for this poster campaign called for breaking these stereotypes down and creating art with the communication. CW: Tim Gordon

SHELTER
Free Housing Advice Shelter is a UK organization that is well known for helping the homeless. The problem is not many are aware of services they offer to help those who are in danger of becoming homeless. This campaign brings awareness to common housing problems and directs people to the web site where they can get free advice. This work was published in the 2007 D&AD Annual. CW: Tim Gordon
GARMIN GPS
Never End Up in the Wrong Place One of the biggest headaches of getting lost is you end up in places that you never intended on going. Beyond the frustration, being out of place can be terribly awkward. This campaign uses misplaced media to deliver the brand’s message. CW: Nick Kaplan
SALVATION ARMY
Make an Impact If the Salvation Army really was an army, how could it make the biggest impact by involving everyone? How would it change its look and approach to accomplish its mission in today’s culture? CW/AD
Mobilization Kit When somebody purchases this kit, they are essentially joining the army — they are joining the fight. The training booklet includes all the relevant information on how to be effective, smart, and informed on the local needs of their community.
Gift Cards Many people in need are forced to ask for help in the form of spare change. Unfortunately, we live in a day where we use debit cards as cash, and rarely have any change on hand. There is also an unfortunate reluctance to give on the basis of trust. “How do I know they won’t use it for drugs?” These cards make this a non-issue. Interactions become simple acts of people helping people. Cards can be used to get groceries, hop on the bus, get hot food, or get clothing at the local Salvation Army Store.

Basic Needs Meeting basic needs, such as protection and comfort, can make a huge difference in the life of the homeless. Samaritans can fit these packs into their pockets, or purse, and quickly give them away during cold or wet weather.
Hunger The heart-breaking reality for some is that they are forced to find their meals in the garbage. Included in the kit are stickers that can be placed on local garbage cans. On each sticker is all the information someone would need to find a hot meal.

The New Bell and Bucket Finally, how would Salvation Army change the way they get donations? Debit and credit cards are used feverishly during the Holiday season. Unlike cash, the change you get from a purchase stays in your account. The GIVE card partners with major banking establishments and allows people to round up their holiday purchases, giving the difference to the needy.

BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA
Scout. The Boy Scouts of America is facing a dramatic decline in membership. Our strategy was to re-brand the Boy Scouts into something more tangible and current. Our main insight for the re-branding was that boys today don’t like being called “boys.” They want to be something more mature. They want to be called scouts. CW: Gaurav De

SCULPEY
Imagination Isn’t Flat Sculpey clay is the perfect tool for artists, kids, and lovers of creativity to put shape to their imagination. Unfortunately, it is often overlooked as a medium for building the ideas and creations that live in their heads. This awareness campaign reminds people that there is more to imagination than 2D sketching and drawing. CW: Laura Holmes
WATER AID
A New Way to Build a Well More that 2.6 billion people around the world do not have access to clean drinking water. I wanted to get this issue in front of the people who enjoy beautiful, clean, crisp water every day. This bottled water allows people to hold the crisis in their hands, and then do something about it. By purchasing this bottle of water people are supporting our cause, with all proceeds going to Water Aid, a nonprofit leading the fight against this injustice. This idea won Best of Show - Richmond Show 2007 CW: Michael Collier
GRID + PIXEL
Installation at Quirk Gallery This is an art installation that I did with a friend of mine, Brian Thibodeau. Its purpose was to explore the relationship between the grid (as a common design tool), the pixel (as a symbol of technology) and dimensional space.
In this installation at the Quirk Gallery in Richmond Virginia, Brian Thibodeau and Daniel Case have collaborated both of their unique styles and perspectives to explore the pixel and the grid. One could argue that the grid is the foundation of aesthetics. The grid has traveled through out time to inform compositions and lay structure and foundation. It now plays a role in technology, constructing images with its grid-like building block: the pixel. The use of pixel in constructing image most often goes unnoticed. We are inundated with digital imagery all day, everyday. This installation takes note of these grids and pixels, and uses their forms as an attempt to construct something meaningful. The installation consists of 30 clear acrylic panels that make up 15 inverted cubes. Each inverted cube is stacked in a geometric fashion to create one large scale installation. Within each inverted cube Brian and Dan have taken the grid apart and put it back together again while using the imagery of pixels. The result is a piece that can be taken apart, stacked differently, or viewed from different angles to give the viewer new and unanticipated results.

RESUME
Thank You. I feel like I am one of the few lucky people on this planet that gets to actually do what they love to do. If you ever meet me, I’ll probably tell you stories about how I had plans to go into the Aviation industry, how it felt to land an airplane without an instructor, or what the lift-to-drag ratio is when flying with 30 degrees of flaps. The conversation would probably start to sound really geeky. Then there would be an awkward silence, and we would talk about something else. You would probably end up asking me how I went from aviation to advertising. It’s simple really. All of my passions have always been in art, design, writing, photography, music, and film. One day I finally realized that I was meant to do something with these passions. Too many people forget that their lives are a story, and they are actually the authors of that story. That’s where I began: “What will my story be? Will it be something that people will be inspired to read? Will the main character have a journey that is worth while? Will it be exciting or will it just be expected?”
You should meet my wife Kate. She is a brilliant artist, painter, fashion designer, sculptor, and pursuer of all things beyond ordinary. She has been teaching art for the past two years while I attended the VCU Brandcenter. We have a dog named Pineapple. He’s a boston terrier who loves to chew on sticks and wear nerdy sweaters. Thank you for your generosity and interest. Thank you for taking the time to go through my work. I have poured my heart and soul into it and am happy to share it with you. Feel free to e-mail or call me anytime. You may also read my blog at monkeyama.com.
