HELPFUL ENGLISH LEARNING PALS A PROGRAM OF COMMUNICATION AND UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN US AN MEXICAN STUDENTS.

Background
Mexico and the US have a strong interaction. This year Mexico processed more than 2 million visas application. The differences in language has been a barrier on both sides.
Background
Despite most public schools in Mexico have English classes, most of the people complain about the quality of the teaching. Most mexicans know the “basics” about English, but complain because of their innability to communicate effectively with Americans. Mexicans have little interaction with “real” Americans and their culture.
Proposal
Create an ESL conversational program of 2 parts: Part 1.A 12 weeks program that will emphasize the conversation of simple, real life, situations like school, home, goverment, communities, human rights, etc. The teachers, preferibly US nationals, will conduct the workshops, and include at least an US guest, for example a writter, a sportman, an official from the Consulate, etc.
Proposal
Part 2 Look for US students and volunteers who want to be a “pal� of a Mexican national. Each student will have a special pal in Mexico. They will communicate via Skype or other free services. They will be oriented to talk about their culture, communities, similarities and differences of each country. This will help each other, because at the same time that the student gains confidence in other language, they will learn from real persons, pal to pal.
Resources
At least four facilities will be used. All of them with Internet Access. A
trailer-library, that will go to “colonias�, low developed areas. A library of a non-profit NGO located at a popular low-income area. A public library, in downtown. A school.
Personnel
A general coordinator / planner. A councelor with experience in ESL teaching. Four teachers, native speakers, preferibly with experience in ESL. Student volunteers from a High School in the United States.
