Making traveling more comfortable for

senior traveling couples. Making traveling accessible to more seniors. Creating a solution primarily targeted at seniorcitizens of more developed countries, that facilitates traveling mainly for couples consisting of one able-bodied and one physically incapacitated/weaker individual on short/medium trips.

Extended target Couple-travelers of all age groups, disabled or able-bodied alike.

Solution A luggage case that can be split in two, allowing for a greater level of power management between two individuals while traveling.

A Water Repellent Coat penetrates the wood and does not contain any colouring pigments so the surface will retain its natural wood colour and grains.

LAPAROSCOPY DEVICE

03

abstract Gravistome is a laparoscopic surgery device aiming to democratize the most significant advantages of robotic assisted surgery. Robotic assisted laparoscopic surgery is a promising emerging method with high purchase and maintenance costs and as such has yet to be widely adopted, although the number of installed surgical robots worldwide has been expanding exponentially. Gravistome provides a low-priced alternative utilizing balancing arms, inertia dampers and endowrist instruments with 7 degrees of freedom to enhance precision, dexterity and lessen fatigue while maintaining production and maintenance costs low. It has the potential to be a game-changing alternative for public or impoverished hospitals alike, that do not have the necessary resources for a risk-bound investment into robotic surgery, but still want to upgrade their operating devices to 21st century technology and benefit from the advantages that come with it.

instrument coupling

1. INSERTION Point the controller towards the ground This allows for the cable couplers to slide downwards and reach their maximal extension. Slowly insert the instrument. 1) On contact with the instrument, the controller’s couplers will be pushed upwards and reach the minimum possible extension. 2) Ramp-like guides automatically rotate the instrument in place. They guide each instrument-couplers into one of their counterpart’s grip, executing a maximal rotation of 90°.

tightening

2. TIGHTENING Tighten the interlocking mechanism by rotating the threaded coupler part. 1) The couplers of both sides experience opposing pulling forces and are brought to their combined maximal extension, fully interlocking the instrument and the controller.

TORQUE TRANSMISSION FRONT VIEW

The articulated end of the instrument can be continuously rotated around the central axis, without the necessity of rotating it back to it’s original configuration after a predefined maximal number of possible rotations. Highly complex suturing operations can be done with high efficiency. Similar to a car transmission system, the rotational power is being transferred to the endowrist through a system of 4 uni-

versal joints and 2 gears rotating about the vertical axis.

PITCH TRANSMISSION The handle’s pitch/inclination relative to the rest of the controller is transmitted to the endowrist part of the instrument via four Bowden cables attached to a dome-shaped universal

joint. Hollow shafts connecting 3 additional universal joints allow for the cables to keep the inclination steady while the endowrist is being rotated. The cables connect to the detachable endowrist tool through solid interlocking parts.
