Athlone IT plays an integral role in educating and upskilling the people in the Midlands region. Both Athlone Institute of Technology and Limerick Institute of Technology are now on the cusp of delivering a technological university (TU) for the Midlands and Mid-West region. In today’s fastmoving innovation economy, it is vital that our graduates are agile and adaptable, with the skills and competencies necessary to succeed and to ensure the continued growth and competitiveness of the regions’ postpandemic economy.

The Department of Lifelong Learning offers you the opportunity to consider engaging in a part-time and flexible programme of learning in Athlone Institute of Technology. Our programmes are designed to give you the skills, knowledge and competencies which you may require for your professional development and career progression.

All of our programmes are delivered using a blended learning approach. Teaching and learning are delivered online during the teaching week with a number of classroom face to face teaching sessions scheduled during each semester, subject to the Government’s COVID 19 guidelines.

You can balance your work and other commitments and study at a pace that suits you. Our programmes are delivered by lecturers with extensive industry expertise and experience. This will enrichen your learning experience. Our department staff are dedicated to ensuring that your educational journey with us, from registration to graduation is enjoyable, rewarding and memorable.

During the 2021/2022 academic year, Athlone IT has applied for funding under the Springboard+ initiative. This funding, if secured will provide free and part-funded places on our programmes, to suit both employed and unemployed people. These programmes are industry-focused and will give participants opportunities to acquire new knowledge and skills.

I hope that you will find a programme that interests you and that we get the opportunity to share in your learning journey. We are committed to ensuring that each student can engage and succeed in their programme of learning. We look forward to responding to any queries or questions you may have.

I wish you continued success and hope to welcome you in September as a student of the Department of Lifelong Learning.

Seadna Ryan Head of Department of Lifelong Learning
