SPIRIT OF COLOMBIA
PASSPORT
Natalia Roncancio was born and raised in Colombia. She loves fashion and everything that has to do with it. She mentioned, “My favorite fashion item would definitely have to be all of the above. In my opinion fashion helps people define themselves and who they are, with their unique personalities from all over the world. However, if I were to pick one, it would definitely have to be shoes, why? Because they are so fun and one can go from zero to a hundred and change a look just with the right pair.” Natalia is a very simple person in a way that she doesn’t have a specific brand or label. “I am one of those people who goes to a bunch of stores, and picks what I like and what I think it would look good on me. I am not complicated with brands. My standards are, as long as the item lasts and is cute, it is perfect for me.” Natalia likes to dress according to the mood she’s in that day. Sometimes she likes to go all out, and sometimes she likes to be casual and comfortable. Her favorite outfit includes jumpsuits and white tennis shoes “an outfit I have always loved, would definitely have to be a jumpsuit with white tennis shoes, this outfit for me is amazing! Because it is a very comfortable option that allows me to move freely, feel good and look great!”. Fashion does indeed affect Natalia’s life “Fashion affects my life in many ways because with it, I am able to be myself and be unique in my own personal way allowing me to grow as a person, a daughter, a student, and as a woman. Helping me to never leave my roots behind, giving me a reminder of who I am today, expectant of change to become stronger in many aspects, waiting for what is new to come, by helping me shape myself and learn from new life experiences through time.” 15

Two women inspire Natalia’s fashion. They are a Mexican blogger called Pamallier and a Colombian actress and activist called Taliana Vargas. These women are her fashion inspirations because they can accomplish amazing looks and look gorgeous with cute, simple clothes. “They have become my inspiration because somehow with their tropical/urban, comfortable, girly like, fashionable styles, I am able to feel identified with them through their fashion sense. Due to their powerful and happy personalities they emit, they constantly remind me of my life in Colombia and the great memories I keep from Bogotá and Santa Marta, which are the magic places I was raised in that made me the strong, happy woman I am today.”

SWEET STYLE IN TAIWAN
Tin Wei is an art student in Taiwan studying Visual Communications Design. She dreams to be a fashion student and study abroad in either Canada or the United States. She absolutely loves fashion. Tin’s favorite brands include AJpeace and Airspace (two clothing stores from Taiwan). She explains, “Fashion affects my life every day, and it makes me happy.” She briefly mentioned that she loves to have a “sweet style”, which is very popular in Asia, “I think sweety style looks like temperament beauty.” Her sweet style comes from inspiration from her friends “My friends inspire my fashion because they are all good at making outfits, and they teach me”. Tin also gets her style inspiration from television. “America’s Next Top Model is my favorite show from America. That show has a lot of fashion that I love.” As metioned before, she dreams of studying fashion. She wants to become a fashion stylist “Maybe one day I could help movie stars choose their clothes.” Airspace

Yukaria loves to wear neutral colors “I like to wear neutral colors such as black, white, and recently I’ve been loving beige colors.”. She likes to incorporate these colors into her all-time favorite outfit, “I like to wear simple shirts and pair them slender pants. One of her style icons is Emiri Henmi “I love Emiri Henmi, she is an actress from Japan who is also very into fashion like me. She has a book about fashion named ‘Real Emiri Style Book.’ I like to read it and see all her fashion advice and choices.”“.

VALENTINA CAVAZOS Valentina Cavazos first got into modeling when she was invited to a photoshoot by her friends. She was shy and insecure but modeling pushed her outside of her comfort zone and she was able to express herself. “My favorite part about being a model is how it allows me to express myself creatively.” Valentina began to gain exposure and more photographers began to approach her not too long after her first pictures were posted. She proves that modeling can be life changing because thanks to modeling, she is currently a confident and outgoing person. Working in the fashion industry, Valentina noticed that the industry is fast paced “As a model, I have learned it is really important to adapt to all different kinds of styles, very quickly.” She mentioned the key to becoming a model is “knowing who you are going to work with, being prepared, and having a good attitude. It is also important to work hard and have fun.” She is not only good at being a model, but she also has a great style “My style is usually a mix between edgy and feminine, depending on my mood. I love showing skin in a tasteful yet daring way, and being bold with my clothing style. MISBHV, GCDS, Danielle Guizio, and Off White are some of my favorite influences at the moment.” Valentina has a promising career ahead of her, and we hope to see her achieve her goals.“I would love to one day have the opportunity to work with Chrome Hearts, Love Magazine, and V Magazine.” Being such a young model, she has many plans for her future, “My life is just beginning, but I have many important plans for the future. This September I am moving to Europe for medical school. My love for modeling and the fashion industry is something I hope I can work on while I’m living there.”

One might think that he fact that you could mix textures and patterns so easily in the 80s means that fashionistas were far more likely to end up looking out of place. However, the 80s were one of the most sartorially diverse eras in history, making these looks wearable and iconic. The 80s were a time when you could rock leopard print with neon colors and get second looks and a standing ovation everytime you entered a room. Such creative freedom made the 80s a time that is not unforgettable to us. 33

A full Adidas getup was a common outfit worn in the 80s, often paired with the classic Adidas Superstar shoes that were everywhere in the 80s. It had you looking like you were training for the Olympics. It has to be said that there’s nothing about this look that couldn’t be pulled off today. 34

The 80s were known for bright colors and oversized shapes. This photo proves that this is look was one of the best of the 80s and that it could be done in the most beaufiul way. The stranger pictured here by Charles H. Traub looks downright poetic and ethereal in her billowing canary yellow dress. 35

The 80s fashion reflected an immense cultural shift. This is at time where women were fully entering the corporate work-force. Power dressing for women became anessential armor. The super wide shouldered blazer is a subtle salute to strength. The bright neon colors reflect the expressive freedom that people had. This shows that the 80s was a time where new ways of expressing yourself were emerging. 36
TECHNOLOGY
37
AGE OF REVOLUTION Technology in fashion is not only leading to unique and exciting new garments, it’s changing the future of the industry itself.
T
he only constant in the fashion industry is change it self. The turn over rate of trends in the fashion industry has always been high with the latest trends rapidly taking over the existing ones. This high turnover rate has been further enhanced with the introduction of technology. Fashion and technology, when brought together, lead to a world of endless possibilities.
Technology has impacted all aspects of the fashion industry, including marketing, sales, and even fashion trends, for the better or in some cases, for the worse. With the introduction of e-commerce and the increasing availability of smartphones, long gone are the days when customers would have to step out of their homes to shop. This means that fashion marketing companies need to come up with innovative ways to appeal to people and franchises that do not have a virtual shopping outlet should get ready to suffer huge losses. Snapchat and Instagram have opened new gates for
fashionistas to keep an eye on the latest fashion trends and fashion shows. Fashion inspirations have become more accessible and are molding the fashion of the future. Social media is influencing the fashion market and fashion sales to a great extent and advanced technological applications have been made that record people’s preferences and accordingly, predict the fashion trends that will dominate in the near future. According to the result of these applications, fashion companies mold their products. Not only has technology impacted the fashion industry from a distance, but a mixture of technology and fashion can be seen in the Samsung and Apple watches. More technology is predicted to be incorporated into fashion accessories in the near future. Technology has thus become the center of the fashion industry with the sales, trends and marketing section relying more and more on social media for their survival.

WHAT IS YOUR STYLE PERSONALITY? 39

1. Can you tell our readers about yourself and your blog? My name is Cynthia, but I prefer Maynez. I personally love Asian Fashion, like I used to wear heavy make up and be update with the j-rock style which is based on Japan. Then I found the Korean concept and since then I loved both. Like I try to base on those things to come out with designs, I’m also into gothic, dark stuff, so I try to do a combination with all my ideas, since I enjoy drawing is very easy to come out with something. My name is Crystal. I like the casual fashion, more chic, kinda girly but stylish. Bright colors and self-created patterns that girls totally will love. That’s more my taste. I’m more like a girly-dude. and I can easily adapt into styles, I love everything, so I’m more open into fashion. I think my biggest skill are the ideas and my big imagination, the creativity that I posses to come out with cool stuff. That’s how I would define myself.
2. How would you describe your blogging style? Simple stuff, the more simple we write, the more beautiful will be, more interesting.
3. What are your roles in this blog? Maynez: I do more like local stuff, so people will be more interested. Of course I add some international stuff. Of course we are both administrators and each of us decide what to put onto the blog. Crystal: My role is pretty simple, like I said, more into the never seen before stuff, or like real situations, where students struggle into the Fashion field and they don’t know what else to do.
4. Did you have any professional help or did you created the blog yourself? Not at all! Maynez: I was a blogger back in the days, so I had the idea of what are we supposed to have in the main page and what not. So it was pretty simple.
5. What would you say that is the biggest challenge about fashion blogging? Finding local stuff. It’s easy to go to a boutique and ask for upcoming events and shows, but like our time is little since we are scheduled for the finals. But we’ll keep it and updating it as soon as we are done, like once you have the project is not that easy to let it go. Since we have good memories before graduation, we’ll keep it.
7. What is your favorite part about blogging? That since is yours (or ours) we can post whatever we want. Or probably simplified stuff there, like have it like a source where students can guide themselves.
8. What is your favorite post on your blog so far? Maynez: Interviews for sure, it was fun. Like all having trouble speaking, or getting nervous, it was funny with their expressions. Crystal: The photo-session we had for the fashion party. It was amazing! We had a great time even though the weather was quite horrible, and the model was cool and simple.

Yanis Pacheco A talent that breaks boundaries “Today she is one of the best makeup artists in Ciudad Juarez and El Paso Tx, and for four years she has become one of the most sought-after makeup artists on the border.
Why did you choose this profession? Five years ago while working at Sephora in retail I met a very unique and passionate MUA. The way she made women feel special and beautiful as she was doing their makeup caught my attention. Suddenly I found myself venturing through this profesion. As I was learning about color I felt in love with everything and I knew I could do this forever. 2. How long have you been a makeup artist and how did you get your start in the industry? Officialy I graduated from Sephora University as a MUA four years ago. The company has it’s own University and requires all the employes in color to be certified in order to start doing makeup and services. I started my career at Sephora doing makeup in multiple clients. 3. Who are some people that have inspired you throughout your career? There has been a lot of people that have inspired me through my career. I believe we are always learning from others. But if I had to mention someone in specific would be my first teacher Kecia. She was the one who inspired me to venture through this career and guided me through my first steps. 4. Tell me a make-up artist that you like. What do you like most about him / her? Linda Hallberg is my favorite makeup artist that I absolutely adore! In a few words she is absolutely amazing! She can do it all natural makeup, drag, fx special effects, editorial and instagram trends. Her pieces are always very unique and original. She is also a very cool person herself and has her own makeup line.
5. What is that great professional dream that has not yet been fulfilled? My great professional dream is to own my own makeup brand. Currently I have my own line of lashes and I am working on lauching another product soon, but there is still a lot of work that needs to be done. 6. What are the guidelines that mark This is a hard one! Many people complement me the most with my brows, eyes, and skin texture. My makeup is all about of keeping it real, natural, and comfortable. As an artist this is something very important! I don’t like hardlines, because naturally we don’t have hardlines in our face. The hardlines trend came from drag makeup; which I try to stay away from. 7. What is the most important thing to keep in mind when facing each new job? The golden rule is : Be always professional and respectful. Do your job with respectfulness and don’t talk about others or personal matters, that is part of being professional. 9. How would you describe your signature look and what is it about your style that sets you apart from other makeup artists? My signature looks have a flawless complexion, eyes that stand out, faux lashes, a healthy finish, and they are super comfortable. People complement the most my creativity when doing eyes, since they are very different. But I feel is more about the look as a whole. 10. What advice would you give to a young person who wants to follow your steps in this profession? I think I would tell them to have patience and practice whenever they can. To forget about their egos and learn form everyone/everything available around them. Finally to never compare with others and to do it with love.
