Location : Coventry , England Climate : 1 - 22 Degree Cel Built-up : 33946 Sqm Structural Engineer : ARUP Architect : Cullinan Studio Owner/ Client: TATA motors, Jaguar Design Occupancy : 1060

The building combines Public, Semi Public and Private Spaces very well. The Labs and engieering hall is place on ground floor to make sure that cars won’t be required the vertical transporation and have smooth circluation throughoiuut the building. The Research Offices and Design Studios are arranged on higher floor as it requires more privacy.

COMPANY PHILOSOPHY & ARCHITECTURE

MASTER PLAN & BUILDING ORIENTATION:

IMPACT Design is a sharper, more contemporary expression of the now recognisable Tata-JLR’ Design language, which captures the attention of the viewer in the first few seconds. It is recognisable, memorable and above all stunning.

GROUND FLOOR PLAN Visitors enter beneath a porch at a key crossing point of routes across campus. Inside, the glass-fronted engineering hall lies directly ahead, announcing the purpose of NAIC: you immediately get an idea of the function of the building. Beyond reception, there are layered daylit meeting and movement ledges and balconies above large blacked-out virtual reality studios.

DESIGN CONCEPT : COLLABARATION

Innovation Require Idea to Be Shared

J&L Collaborative Hub External Terrace Tata Motors Research Office Advance Research labs

Collaborative Spaces Sparks Innovation

Designing the NAIC required us all to take an extraordinary journey in response to a unique brief that co-located industry, research and academia into the heart of the University of Warwick’s campus. Early discussions refined some key ambitions: 1) To foster innovation and collaboration across disciplines 2)To connect academic and manufacturing research 3)To inspire a new generation of engineers 4)To showcase forward thinking Of JLR And TATA MOTORS in design

Pedestrain Access

Service and Vehicle Access

A crucial move to site it at the heart of the Warwick campus, rather than out in a science park. It’s part of a group of buildings around a landscaped Academic Square at one end of an axis that connects to the hub of the university. The building that is open to its surroundings, while accommodating functions that are commercially sensitive and need to be kept quite private.

The reception within the main collaborative hub, so that there is full public access to the area of the ground floor it shares with an exhibition space, informal meeting areas, engineering hall, student projects space and café. All visitors are thus taken into the heart of NAIC – and can experience the ‘theatre’ of the central hub and some key work areas – without compromising the activities taking place beyond the barriers and on upper floors.

BUILDING FACADE & EXTERIOR :

The building belies its cost and is actually quite simple in terms of its fabric. External walls were assembled using a pioneering system of prefabricated, self-spanning timber and CLT ‘megapanels’. The CLT panels we chose are slim, 90mm-thick, 12m sheets, which are very economical when used on a big scale, offered performance better than steel, needed no extra secondary steelwork and could be erected quickly. Facade: Between the ground floor and roof, a rippling façade of curving expanded mesh acts as a sunshield, a veil that gives shifting patterns of light and shade, and a sense of depth, movement and dynamism to the building.

The ground-floor slab required loads of pits to be cast into it – for engine testing and fuel sumps and for car-lift hydraulics. So there was quite a complex, time-consuming ground plane construction before you could build on top of it.

Structural engineers developed the largest glulam roof structure in Europe in close collaboration to achieve a high level of aesthetic and design detail. The exposed concrete frame and design studio upper floor were designed to meet specific deflection criteria to allow cutting-edge precision measuring accuracy next to excess vehicle-imposed loads, leading to increased productivity and use of the upper floor space.

To immerse visitors in the Porsche experience, the team incorporated motor-sport-related cues. Vintage and modern Porsches are on display in a classic car gallery. Exterior and interior wall configurations keep track noise outdoors. Visitors can see historic Porsches undergoing renovations at the restoration center. In the design studio, customers can virtually create their dream cars with fully customizable options. Restaurant 356, named for the first production Porsche, offers diners front-row seats and a balcony over-

Green solutions, such as natural ventilation, on-site energy generation, planted roofs and gray-water systems will contribute to the Firm’s pursuit of a minimum of LEED Silver for the project. But the importance is not focused only on the exterior, but an equally important part of the design criteria was to bring the Porsche brand and product experience inside the office and meeting environments, hospitality areas, training facilities, even the parking structure. Cafes, team rooms and meeting spaces will also flank the natural light-filled courtyard area. The floors surrounding the courtyard will be lined with floor-to-ceiling windows that open up the interior spaces and blend them with the exterior. In the first for any North American Automative Headquarters, the Porsche site design integrates the track with the building, bringing a whole new definition to ‘rush hour’ – namely that of the adrenaline kind

The LEED Gold-certified building’s east-west exposures eliminate glare while the north-south curtain walls maximize natural light and minimize solar heat gain. Previously home to an automobile production facility, the former brownfield site was remediated as part of the development process. A green roof links the building to the landscape while providing insulation and reducing storm water runoff and the parking area includes charging stations for Porsche’s electric vehicles. The building is designed to perform 60% better than CBECS/AIA 2030 baseline.

ZONING :

The Mahindra Research Valley is a modern workspace. With its workstations and conference Rooms, the architecture of MRV ensures productivity. But there is more to architecture that goes farther than creating a functional space architecture that understands the ethos of a work culture. As a plan, the MRV project is simple the design workplaces at the center where many disciplines meet, the workshops and test labs are placed at the periphery and linked to this core, expressing the essential pattern of Row of work. for design and prototyping of automobiles, the design centers, test labs and prototype labs have to work in a system. the master plan essentially establishes this system. .

The design centre at the core of all activities is organised in three levels. Within a rectilinear grid, 8m x 8m, the levels are staged and staggered to create patterns of double height spaces, circulation moments and working spaces. In a regular grid of circular columns, the flow of internal spaces is independent and liberated from the restrictionsof the walls. Even the facade is free and the grid enables endless permutations in interiors. A pattern of workspaces and formal meeting spaces overlap a free layer of nodes and places that afford accidental encounters and informal interactions.

The main Design Office has been placed in the centre of the project - connected by overhead bridges to workshops on three sides; and on the fourth, to the Main Entrance and driveway. This Design Office has three main levels. Along the periphery of each floor plate are workstations laid out in an organic fractal pattern. As one crosses the floor plate and approaches the garden in the centre, this strict geometry dissolves into a loose casual pattern of glass walls - defining meeting rooms, cabins and break-out spaces, all focussing on the central garden.

CENTRAL LANDSCAPE : The Architects ’s idea about what the landscape should look like was simple. He said that he had imagined the central space as a mass of green with the appearance of a lush tropical forest, the foliage dense enough to evoke a sense of mystery and something unexpected within its verdant recesses (just like a real forest). So that when you looked out from your office into the courtyard through the generous expanses of glass, you would see not the architectural façade across the space, but a luxuriance of foliage filling the frame.

The office building, designed to accommodate workstations, cabins and conference rooms, has a fairly large footprint split into three floors with a central courtyard. This courtyard, which is designed as a rain forest, is the main source of natural light for this building. The workstations are arranged keeping in mind the 8m x 8m grid the building follows. So each table has a customized size of 2m x 2m, which are then placed together to form a clusters of 11, 22 and 33 tables. These clusters also help in demarcating areas for various MRV teams and a special table for the team leader is provided accordingly.

Ihe sense of light and time is never lost in MRV. As sunlight permeates the court, an ever (hanging and omnipresent sense of time prevails in the building. Many small niches and hidden spaces allow getaways and retreats. Ihe experience in the building changes with time and season. As a system of sun breakers filter direct glare, many intricate details interact with the built form a strip of green, vertical glass signage systems, full height glass openings, and ellipsoidal skylights.

Large voids in walls with Red and Yellow Colours. The design of NW/ aims to Wing the complete workflow of automobile design in one cohesive campus. With an eye for every detail, the experience within is conducive to an efficient and productive work culture. Surprising dashes of yellow and red identify the built form. Blight colours and murals on the walls generate many points of interest. the grid of the built form dissolves in the inteinal layout which is fiattal and free from associations.
