01 / LIVING KNOT 3D Modelling Skills / BIM (REVIT)
For this project, assignment was to remodel an already existing building using BIM (Building Information Modelling, Revit 2014, Autodesk) software. The aim to explore the different possibilites, opportunities, and design options that this application provides for professionals in arts and design fields. This small private residence situated in a rural agricultural village of Gangneung. The slightly elevated site on the start of a hill enjoys an almost panoramic view of the surrounding which is dominated by local mountainscape. Started by investigating a way in which Korean traditional villas forming intimate relationships to the external spaces from each room, the design of this house tries to emulate this relationship between interior and exterior throughout the building. In traditional Korean villas, the organisation of the building uses linear volumes to maximise the contact with external spaces. In this house linear volumes are used to create simple two storey building, two bands of volumes forming a knot, and throughout the house multiple frames of views of outside to different directions are introduced and access to the exterior spaces are provided from every room. The two rings of volumes which is sharing the circulation space of the house functionally separates the private living spaces to the more public area within the house. The exterior of these two bands are distinguished by different materiality as well. Also this ring of volumes creates outside spaces that are interwoven into the building forming terraces, courtyard and gardens.

The sensuality of the solid lines, large windows, sliding doors, metal structures, which generates large spans and generous ruffles, finishes without unnecessary frills and the white color on floors, walls and ceilings highlight the basic concepts that are evident in this work.

Through a folded plane that serves as a continuous structure and envelope between natural and artificial, where floors, walls and ceilings form a unit, develops a housing program, with high space utilization, ventilated, illuminated and free of distracting elements that seek to create a moment of comfort and tranquility in the user, with each space integrating nature through their doors, windows, wherein the cover as the final element of the plane that cast a shadow in the house and essential part of its function of covering the outside stairs, makes its own proportions and becomes a sculptural element.

03 / CAVE Light Exhibition Museum / Studio V
Project Brief: Light Exhibition Museum - is a project to reveal our imaginations and to have a play with light in terms of openings within the form of a building. Purpose was to concentrate on what is inside and make people to impress. But I decided that if I want people to come in my building and enjoy the light, first, I have to attract them. So during the design stage, I was concentrated both on interior and exterior look at the same time Concept: In order to play with natural daylight, some areas of a building should be dark enough to see how light comes in from outside and reflects on surface. So I came up with an idea of a cave. First reason is it best suits for this kind of project. Caves are always dark with random interior forms which makes people to appreciate the light. Another point is to give visitors a feeling of self-preservation. To reach this goal, the whole building was broken into 3 parts.

Part 1: As it was written, the building has to attract people. So the entrance part is wider and bigger than part 2, because entrance has to be bright enough for people to feel safe and make people keep walking through. Part 2: This is where the cave theme comes to play. As you can observe from 3 dark pictures around, spaces are designed to be narrow, dark and unpredictable. What people see is the reflection of light that comes in from the openings. It gives a feeling of fear, but at the same time it makes people to continue their journey, because even though it seems to be scary, it makes people to go on and find out what is going to be at the end.
03 / CAVE Light Exhibition Museum / Studio V
In most cases, the final destination of caves end up with huge space that looks like a piece of heaven. So here it is. We made people to force themselves to overcome fear and finish the trip. The final space is made for people to relax, have a cup of coffee and just enjoy the light

03 / SHELTER Research Laboratory / Studio VI
The purpose of this project was to create a research laboratory which can also serve as a shelter for people where they can survive for at least a week, due ti the nature of the project, including sustainability features was crucial in this design. This building includes solar panels that cover 50% of the roof area. Solar panels are extremely effective in Dubai since there is plenty of sun throughout the year which provides a lot of solar energy Moreover, this design achivies natural indoor air circulation. This is possible since the site is located on the beach which provides a flow of cool air from the sea to ventilate the building. This would not be possible to attain if the site was located further from sea as the air would heat up as it travels further from the shore.

05 / JOINT Urban Design / Studio VII
When it comes to urban design, usually it is about to create a system within at least a block. This work was about to create urban space within a small plot. The size of a plot is 213 x 130 meters. It is situated in Dubai, next to American University in Dubai, facing the Sheikh Zayed Rd. Requirements are to include a small shopping area, appartments, a small hotel, gym, spa, restaurants, office area, primary school, nursery, 20 villas, first aid clinic, DEWA plant, police station, civil defence. My first idea was to bring to Dubai something that does not exist in the whole UAE. Then I thought about cities in Europe, that have blocks of buildings in a grid system with narrow streets. The Triumph Arch in Paris came as an inspiration, because it is a famous place with a history that created an urban spcae there. Why I took it as an idea? Because the plot which was given is one of the best empty places around and it can not be built without a special concept.

SITE DESCRIPTION AND REGULATIONS The site is located in the zone known by Sheikh Zayed, in the Satwa Area, opposite to DIFC area. The plot surface area is around 6500m2 (130m x 50m). The floor area ratio is 3.0 and the lot coverage is 30%. Maximum height of the building envelope is 62m. A set back of 15m is required from neighboring towers. While the height of the apartment’s storyshould not exceed 4 meters. The height of the retail block can reach 5.5 meters. Staircase and elevator with their shafts should not exceed the height of 65m.

CONCEPT : HOSPITALITY Target of this project is to design an apartment building for local, Emarati families and the design has to reflect the Emirates and Emarati culture. First thing that came to my mind was Hospitality. Emarati culture is known with its hospitality and how they host guests. But privacy was on top of everything. At this point I reminded myself their old buildings with big arabic gates. Arabic gate is an iconic shape and it was used in this project to reflect the old look. This shape later on was used as a void in the middle of the whole building, at the same time creating a huge opening. From here “hospitality” comes to play. With the help of the shape and a big opening in the middle, it gives a feeling of hospitality. Its welcoming people to come and look in and at the same time keeps privacy.

Nowadays, our world is fac ing with hard times. It is sad to know that people d id not learn from their past m ista kes from world war I and II. Not a single country is safe now from cr ime and terror ist at tacks, a nd espec ially m iddle east countr ies a re suffer ing the most. Mass med ia is the main weapon tha t has been used in the last cen tury. Beca use of fake informa tion they provide in each country, it is a l most im possible to know the rea l tr uth a nd judge th ings fairly. I n terna tiona l Central Bureau m ight be one of the great impacts on i m proving j udgement system wh ich is provided with true information with a hel p of I NTE RPOL .
07 / INTERNATIONAL CENTRAL BUREAU Senior Project / Studio X
The concept beh ind the idea of figh ting a cr ime in the Un ited Arab Em i ra tes, is to create an I nternationa l Centra l Bureau. The purpose of tha t build ing is a new start for a better fight against cr ime prac tica lly a nd informationally. To show people that not everyth ing is u nder corr u ption and welcome those who want to make our l ives better a nd more safe. Th is projects consists of three main parts. The fi rst one is a n international court. A court tha t will judge people who are a rrested by I NTE RPOL and NCB ( Na tiona l Central Bureau). At the sa me time, it will have an access for people to watch the process. I t is not a n entertainment, as it may seem . It is a way to show all vital ity and im portance of process and work tha t is happen ing in front of them . It would also hel p students who a re studying in law depart men t by giving a chance to exper ience a court process. The second pa rt will be a train ing center for those who want to become a part of NCB agency wh ich is located i n Abu Dha bi. The main point of th is train ing fac il ity is to ed ucate young law enforcement agents. They will cover courses on internationa l law and will go through i n nova tive train ing in the sphere of resea rch a nd development for the identifica tion of cr imes and cr im ina ls. Th is will provide students with d i ploma a nd h igher the chances to join the ra nks of I NTE RPOL or provide more career opportun ities. And the th ird is NCB itself. Provid ing a new wor king space for existi ng NCB bra nch, wh ich is located i n Abu Dha bi , would create an u n ited a nd strong organ ization in U . A .E.
07 / INTERNATIONAL CENTRAL BUREAU Senior Project / Studio X
The concept is the first step to the fi na l design. With concept idea comes inspira tion, creativity, and the first sensation of the build ing on the site . For th is project, it is frames. Why frames? How that can rela te to a rch itecture and to the theme of the project? The use of frames could give us a wider understand ing and per spective on governments and how they portray events and happen i ngs to their people. The concern is tha t these days, local med ia has a grea t impact on what people bel ieve in, and how they see the wor ld the way their local me d ia providers want them to see it. Th is ca n ca use multiple problems for people a round the world. One of these problems is the effect on people’s mental ity and causing them to be narrow m inded towa rds wha t they see.
