INTRODUCTION This process book is briefly showing design process and the final products of the production graphic for our selected field site, Bloomington Bagel Company. There are four projects, persona, concept map, scenario, and digital moment. For each project, we started from sketches, and then design iterations by using Illustrator or InDesign. The iterations would be shown to our group member and each person would get feedback from the group. For understanding the projects better, we also read the related readings on line and write response for the reading and discuss the topic with our classmates. The final production was based on revise of iterations and the critic we had in class.

Preliminary Field Research Fieldsite Selection We divided into three groups in the class, each person could choose a site they are interested in. I chose the Bloomington Bagel Company is because their foods are healthy and delicious, and the interior space of the site is interesting. I am also interested in their customers, because the range of their target clients are broad. From young adults to elderly, from students to local residents, from men to women. They attracts different people in the Bloomington Bagel Company to buy their fresh bagels. So I want to design a series of graphic for them.
Fieldsite Visits During the research process, I visited the sites three times. The first time was on Tuesday around 5 p.m.. There are only two people ate at the restaurant. I did notes and sketches about the details I saw and I also ordered a bagel to eat for experiencing the ordering process. The second time I went to the same location. This time I got there on Friday around 3 p.m., there are four people were eating there. I took some pictures of the store interior. The third time I visit, was in another location. I noticed lots of different indoor decoration in that store and a different designed menu. So I took photoes of the decorations and the chalk board menu.

Team Meetings We had team meeting after we did interview and each time we visited sites. Everyone in the group share their thoughts, what happened during the visiting, and the brief content of interview. From the team meeting, we got more information about our fieldsite and share the ideas. It helps us know our site better in a shorter time.
Interview From the interview, we learned that people go to the BBC is because they like the food there. Except good bagels, they also like their coffee. Most of people like their hand written chalk board menu but also pointed out it has some weakness, such as low readability and always be the same. People also believe that during the busy hours, the entrance of the BBC is too narrow for people to pass.

Concept Map
The concept map shows the key words of Bloomington Bagel Company and the relationship between each word. At the beginning stage of design, we had group discussion about the problem statement, pick the important words and discuss how to connect them together. Then we start to design our own concept map. From doing the concept map, I got a deeper understanding of this brand.

Insights
How can a redesigned menu further enhance the relaxed environment of BBC while also help to increase the efficiency of the restaurant, while still maintaining the homey local feeling of the chalkboard menu?
The hominess of BBC contributes to the other contributes listed. Despite being a fastpaced environment, it is still relaxed, and the relaxed vibe contributes to the rest of the store’s qualities.

The Senario is the stories showing the user’s using experience. It helps me, as a designer, think from user’s view point, and truly understand what they need.

Digital Moment
The digital moments are the illustrated use of the function of the possible solutions. For me, this series of production graphic design was a good practice of product design and graphic design. Sketch: Moment 1 Customers create an account on the app and then they could explore menu on the app and load money on the app to pay in the store.
Sketch: Moment 2 The transpatrent glass is a digital touch screen. It is also a ordering system.

Critiques The app looks nice. It is easy to understand. The best part is that customers could check out in the restaurant by themselves without unnecessary time consume. 16
Moment Two Glass Ordering Panel The glass on the food display shelf has a ordering system. Customers could see the information of the food they are looking at on the panel. After order finished, customers will pay on the digital screen in the check out area. This makes menu became more vivid and percise.
Critiques It is a cool idea. The food could be seen through the digital screen. And the check out system avoid waste of time. Maybe clude more detail will be great.

Moment Three Bagel ATM The bagel ATM machine is placed next to the front door of BBC. It is a machine that helps customer order simple bagel quickly. The order infomation will be sent to the kitchen. And the finished bagel will be sent to the machine. It saves time and makes ordering process more memorable and interesting.

Critiques The idea is interesting. It could help customer save time. And can buy a bagel without talking with any one. More graphics could help the design become more vivid.

CONCLUSIONS After this semester’s practice, I got more knowledge about informatics and graphic design. Every project taught me different things. They are the introduction of how to becoming a good production graphic designer. Design is not just for making something looks great, it is more about good ideas, which also can be called creativity. The projects included in this book help me become more creative. They made me feel more confident to be a good designer.
