Hi, I’m Dan Scialom, I’m a Graphic Designer, Illustrator, Photographer and Drone pilot. After graduating from The University of Wales Newport, I travelled back to Manchester where I now live and work. I develop and create, designs for print and web applications as well as branding work and merch’ designs for bands. I specialise in print based design solutions, I am passionate about typography, illustration and doing things differently. I finished my degree in 2009, since then I have worked as freelancer creating books for clients such as Alderly Edge School and The Rallye Register (car club). I have created business cards for the likes of Tiger Tiger; Goldsmiths and leaflets pamphlets for Oxfam and many more. Recently I have worked in house for Trafford College, One Manchester and The Gladman Group as a designer for their respective marketing and communications departments where I have been responsible for producing a great variety of print media including large format billboards, prospectuses and brochures, as well as vehicle signage and web and email designs. I feel I have grown and gained the confidence and invaluable experience and knowledge in my field and as time has moved on I’ve really enjoyed taking on a more senior role nurturing and supporting new talent as they have joined the current team at Gladman.

Barnard Gate The Barnard Gate project is one of the largest projects I handled at my time with Gladman. It was a real pleasure to head up something of this scope and impact for the business. This was a special one off for this large site and i’m really proud of how success ful it was. The main outcome for the project design wise was the A3 perfect bound vision document produced on Gf Smith papers to communicate the scope of the development to key stake holders and memebers of the council an parish planning partners.

In addition to the main book we produced an ad campaign and complete office stationary for communications for the new proposed development such as letterheads and compliments slip. We also produced a series of newspaper adverts to promote the public consultations for the site.

With Compliments

ď‚œ Freepost Barnard Gate Garden Village ď‚ż info@barnardgategardenvillage.co.uk

To further promote the benefits and positive attributes of the new development, to a wider public audience we created a newsletter to do provide some positive PR for the site. This was a 4000 piece direct mail campaign targeting the local residents.

BARNARD GATE GARDEN VILLAGE

A BETTER ALTERNATIVE TO EYNSHAM NORTH Would you like a better sense of community? Where the needs of your pre-school to retirement, social to sport. There will be something for green spaces placed between education and employment, to the cafe and unwind. Barnard Gate will be a forward-thinking, community Gladman has submitted plans for Barnard Gate Garden Village, a new village of up to 3,000 homes for the area south of the A40 at Barnard Gate (midway between Eynsham and Witney). This is an alternative to North Eynsham because only one of the schemes will be able to proceed.

As part of the plans, critical infrastructure along the A40 will be delivered prior to the occupation of any houses and the Garden Village will be supported by high quality amenities that will also be delivered early in the scheme. A village green will form the heart of the community, with

encourage people to safely walk and cycle. For those looking for more structured leisure time there is also a large sports park to the east, including sports pitches, running route with trim trail and lido.

Half of the 3,000 new homes will be affordable, available for rent or shared ownership through housing associations, a quarter of these homes will be starter homes for first-time buyers, to help young families and young professionals to get on the property ladder. Apartments with care for older residents will also be provided to grow a strong balanced community similar to those in other Oxfordshire villages. Proposals include a business / science park to the north of the A40 which provides space for local businesses to operate from and employment opportunities for new and existing residents.

a cricket pitch, bowling green and market square providing a focal point for the community. The local centre will include a village hall, creche/nursery, medical centre and pharmacy, shops (including small retail units for local businesses), café, restaurant and pub. Barnard Gate Village will provide two new primary schools to cater for the local children and neighbouring villages. The County Council has agreed that secondary school children from this village could attend a new secondary school being planned for Witney, Gladman would very much like to hear your views on this. Green spaces link all parts of the Garden Village and will

The village will also have an extensive new country park to the south, accessible by all, providing a new area for people to relax, exercise, walk the dog or simply enjoy peaceful country walks through woodlands and open grasslands. This country park will provide a permanent buffer between the village and Church End / South Leigh. As part of the public transport improvements, the express bus service along the A40 between Witney and Oxford will be increased to 12 buses per hour. A number of these will be routed through the new village together with a new shuttle bus running from the village to Hanborough Railway Station. In addition,

family can be met; from everyone, from the open and restaurant to relax orientated way of life. the section of the A40 adjacent to the development will be widened to dual carriageway. Gladman’s Senior Project Manager, Robert Black said: “Barnard Gate Garden Village provides a genuine opportunity to deliver much needed new housing but more importantly create a new sustainable, balanced community - It is much more than just a new housing development. The Barnard Gate Garden Village development will cause less disruption to the lives of residents in Eynsham, Freeland and the Hanboroughs. It will help West Oxfordshire to provide the housing it needs much earlier than north Eynsham as we only have one landowner and the unpopular plans for Eynsham has at least 14 owners. We will put the investment in to providing the infrastructure before the first house is built and then we will ensure that 50% of the new homes are affordable to local people.” He added: “Our aim is to build a new village that will add to the district, unlike the Eynsham proposals which will place an extra burden on existing schools, medical facilities and roads. We hope that the residents of West Oxfordshire will support us and we welcome views on how we could amend and improve our current proposals.”

The Chimes One of Gladman’s sister companies; Adlington was under way with a new development in Cheadle, Cheshire and it was one of my jobs to create the identity for the site it was a really enjoyable task Logo design is one of my favourite things to do as its quite easy to be prolific and “fail fast” to get to a great outcome.

Gladman Land Business Cards This was another project that I got to have a lot of fun with as it was something completely new for the business. It had come to the attention of management that the business cards our agents were handing out lacked a little gravitas so I was asked to create a new design that was elegant, simplistic and had a strong impact. It took a few attempts and a lot of collaboration with printers and block foiling companies as well as paper supplier GF Smith but we finally achieved a great card that represents the value of Gladman as a company. There were some specific challenges in creating the card as it was necessary to be able to add or change details for new hires and promotions which traditionally would have cost a lot of money as these card would normally be printed via a plate system as the weight of the bonded paper is too heavy for most digital print solutions. However after working with our printers we found a solution that meant we could digitally print the backs after they were block foiled and then bond them to the fronts after they were also block foiled meaning we have a totally smooth block foiled card that is duplexed in 2 colours of GF Smith Card stock resulting in premium card that can be reproduced and altered quickly and cost effectively without the additional cost and time of getting plates made up. I’m really proud of these cards and the problem solving that went into creating them.

On The Level° This was a great project that I got to have a lot of fun with as it was something completely new for the business. The idea was to produce a fun informative newsletter about all the things happening around the business I knew it was a success when the editors were telling me people we asking how to get in it and when is the next issue coming out !?

MESSAGE FROM THE EDITØRS A warm welcome to the first newsletter of 2017. 2016 was a very successful year in the backdrop of a politically eventful time. 2017 looks set to be as eventful but also intended to be even more successful. Growth targets are in place across the business and the emphasis for 2017 is to focus on achieving these targets. 2017 is also a milestone birthday for Gladman and we look forward to celebrating 30 years with you all – watch this space for more details!

Gladman Vision Documents After the positive response from the Barnard Gate vision document many of the planning teams in the company wanted to produce vision documents for their projects, however due to the volume of speculative sites it wasn’t an economical use of time to produce such a document every time so we decided to create a template version that could easily be updated to suite new developments. It was a really fun challenge to work with the various planners and agents to boil down what they needed in the booklet and I’m really happy with the elegant on brand design we worked up.

Outdoor & Large Format My time at the College provided me with may chances to produce some pieces of print I otherwise wouldn’t have, this is a selection of some of the Large format, outdoor print and design I produced whilst working at Trafford College.

Baladi Blues Reloaded With the success of Baladi Blues releases the band were contacted by many UK producers and DJs to produce a remix album, for which I was brought back in to do the artwork for. It was essential that it be recognisable as a Baladi Blues production but also capture a more urban feel.

Respect Campaign The Brief was to create a series of posters and brochures that would promote good behaviour in College, remind students of what is expected of them, encourage students to reflect on good citizenship and their role in the wider community as Trafford College Ambassadors. Using inspirational quotes from great minds.

A.E.S.G Muse Alderly Edge School for Girls, MUSE magazine. For this project I was given almost free reign so I really enjoyed it. I was responsible for all the layout and design bar the front cover, which was designed by the students at the School.

Apprenticeship Brochure One of my responsibilities at the College was to develop the brand for the Apprenticeships section and produce a brochure for advertising apprenticeships and the apprenticeships available at Trafford College.

Tiger Tiger Various Cards for Tiger Tiger. Firstly I was commissioned to produce a series of business cards for Tiger Tiger bar in Manchester to help with one of their promotions, I was asked to produce four different colours to represent different days of the promotion. The rear of the card had to have space to accommodate a date stamp. Secondly I was tasked with creating a card for quickly identifying bar tabs, I was asked to make sure there was room for tab information. As the previous promo cards were bright, the client wanted these to be black to distinguish them from the promo cards.

RYANO MUSIC I was approached by Splash Print to produce a logo for the a local music producer / artist RYANO MUSIC. He was very positive and enthusiastic about the design so much so I was asked to create the design for his release “ENOUGH IS ENOUGH” using the same style.

ICE

Implant Centres Of Excellence I was approached by Splash Print to produce a selection of logos to go up against another company’s designs for a client of theirs. The client preferred my ideas and enthusiasm for the job and we then worked on finalising the logo. Initial Ideas

Thyme Out Catering by Katie King.

I was approached by an acquaintance who was starting a new mobile catering business to create a vinyl advert for the rear of their four by four (Rav4) I saw this as a great opportunity to expand my skill set and really enjoyed producing the vinyl artwork and learning how to apply vehicle vinyl was really rewarding.

Baladi Blues Baladi Blues, I was approached by the lead performer of the “world music ensemble to design the packaging for their latest release. I found a lot of inspiration from the traditional Egyptian street music background of the CD.

Creative Capital While I was attending the University of Wales Newport, the University staged a major showcase event - Creative Capital - Set in the heart of one of the UK’s most important commercial centres, Canary Wharf in London which had the aim of encouraging businesses to use fresh thinking to break out of the recession. It was also a showcase for the innovative and creative ideas of the students of the university. My role was to create stimulating interstitial graphics that were to be projected and displayed on screens around the venue.

Oxfam I was contacted by a local printers, on behalf of Oxfam, to produce an eight page report for Oxfam in Greater Manchester about their RTS (routes to solidarity) programme and conference. It was really great to work with a charity and gain more knowledge about what they do.

sustainABLE This was my final project at university with it I intended to bring attention to climate change and sustainable graphic design, through the use of creative typography and humour as well as the materials and processes used. I produced a series of typographic posters, printed on recycled, reused and found materials mostly on discarded “make ready” and “Gash” prints. The twist in my project is that I printed using laser cutters rather than printing with potentially noxious chemicals. I then purchased carbon offset credits estimated to cover the power used for the laser cutting process.

Old Harry’s Game Old Harry’s Game is an animated take on the Radio 4 classic series, set in hell, written by Andy Hamilton. I was asked to create an image for the titles by FlickerPix Animations, in Belfast.

106 Rallye Register 10th anniversary table book One of my major passions in life besides graphic design and art, is motoring and motorsports. I have been a member of the 106 rallye register for nearly six years now so when I was asked to help put together the clubs 10 year anniversary book I jumped at the opportunity. It has been a labour of love with so many contributions and so much rich history it has been hard work to catalogue the clubs exploits in just one book and make it commercially feasible as well. However I and everybody else involved feel that this book is a real success. 10 years of the 106 Rallye Register 56 rallyĂŠ book newest.indd 56

Tennants Group Through a contact at a local printers I have been involved in quite a few projects for the Tennants Group such as business cards, event advertising, corporate diaries, internal information pamphlet and brochures. I have also done some work for their subsidiary Greenox Adblue. tennantsdeskfinal.pdf

Tennants Golf Day. Registration has now moved to Chepstow Room. Please speak with Reception if you are unsure of the location

Chris Jones Personal Trainer A good friend of mine has recently become a qualified personal trainer and very kindly asked me to produce all of his branding and marketing materiels.

SK8 Dog Walkers Through a contact of mine I was approached to help develop an identity and some branding for a new local dog walking business SK8 Dog Walkers I produced a logo based on the customers requirements to show they catered for all size dogs.

Personal Projects This is a small selection of projects I’ve done in my free time including self promotional work such as vinyl stickers, business cards and free backgrounds for smartphones and computers. I also enjoy hand rendering/designing type, photography, creating basic 3d work in cinema 4d and I have also recently enrolled on a web design course to further expand my skillset .
